Hey all ive been watching through Charlie Kaufmans films lately now having seen Adaptation, Synedoche New York, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, and now Being John Malkovich.. And for me they ranged from extremely powerful (Synedoche New York) to just generally enjoyable (Confessions..) but I just can't seem to wrap my head around Being John Malkovich.
The movie was filled (for me) with boring or extremley unlikable charecters such as Maxine or Cusacks charecter and in general didnt move me or cause me to really think about anything besides how bored I was. Synedoche New York gripped me the entire time and actually had me bawling a little bit at the end 5 minutes and didn't leave me for days. Adaptation was a great performance by Nic Cage filled with some wonderful storytelling.
Being John Malkovich had the same surrealist weirdness that are usually present in films Kaufman is involved in but I just couldn't get behind it.. What am I missing? Why is this movie so beloved? Am i trying to find something not present in the movie? I guess im just disappointed.
