There are only two sentences in the teaser so here are my own subtitles. From 0:06 to 0:15 :
You know, the world of money is infinitely vast, no one knows how much money there is in circulation in the world. Billions and billions.
And from 0:41 to 0:48
Mr. Daoust, I have the impression that until now you have always been an honest citizen. But now you're about to throw it all away.
The movie was known as Le triomphe de l'argent [The triumph of money] for months be he recently decided to rename it.
Interestingly, Days of Darkness (2007) was already the third movie in the "American Empire" trilogy, preceded by The Barbarian Invasions (Best Foreign Language Film at the 2004 Academy Awards) and The Decline of the American Empire (nominated in the same category at the 1986 Academy Awards)
The synopsis :
The fall of the American Empire tells the story of Pierre-Paul Daoust, single and lonely, who holds a doctorate in philosophy from McGill University. While delivering a parcel to a women's clothes shop, he witnesses an armed robbery going wrong causing two fatalities. He finds himself in front of two duffel bags filled with banknotes. He is then faced with a dilemma: leaving with the bags or not?
and Arcand's press release (put as the video's description.) I'm warning you, it comes off quite presumptuous.
I make films trying, in my own way, to obey the age-old instructions: to give a mirror to life and time. Even in the most remote corners of our planet, we are all subjects of the American empire. This empire is dying and its convulsions touch us brutally. Those who put all their hopes in Trump's departure forget that after Caligula came Nero, and three centuries of inexorable disintegration. We, in Canada, live comfortably under the umbrella of the "pax americana," but the moral decay of the empire begins to infect us. The omnipotence of money is one of the symptoms. Will we find antibiotics powerful enough to fight this gangrene?
