Conan the Barbarian (1982) is a thought-provoking mix of violence and philosophy.

I've been thinking about this movie a lot since watching it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. For some reason I always thought it looked cheesy or nerdy or something. Now it is in my top ten.

John Milius really made something special here, and got a great performance out of Arnold, who was completely new to acting. The other actors are great, especially James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom. The fights are realistic and bloody, the sets are all beautifully-constructed and the special effects have aged well.

I'm not entirely sure why I can't stop thinking about the story, you just need to experience it. Like I said it makes you think a little bit, and feel the things Conan feels on his journey. It's just a really good, succinct story. Last but not least, the music is absolutely incredible and will pump testosterone directly into your soul
