Freddie Mercury was a Parsi from Gujarat born in Zamzibar, East Indian. He was a British national but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a brown person from South Asia. I am sure Rami Malek would do an incredible job portraying Mercury on screen. But I feel a lot of people from the South Asian community would have liked if the character was represented by a real brown actor with South Asian heritage – it doesn’t matter what his nationality is.
