Obviously, in the movie industry, there has been racism, sexism, etc. for years. We are now seeing a major shift in culture with the #MeToo movement and movies such as Get Out and Black Panther.
I have no doubt that these will be extremely beneficial in the long-term, but in the short-term not much is changing on the large scale. Sure, some awful people are being called out, and rightfully so.
But now this is just an avenue for people to capitalize on the movement. Big studios, ran by the same sexist and racist people, screaming "look how great we are!" The fetishization of African Americans in these movies. And people are eating it up.
It's the same issues, just in a different form. I don't know what the solution is, but I believe it's something that should be taken with a grain of salt.
Any other thoughts?
