Before the internet became the primary outlet for announcing news for all kinds of media there were TVs, radios, and newspapers. For movies there were trailers right before the film you paid to see started. I used to enjoy watching movie trailers at the cinema because I genuinely am curious to find out what movies are coming soon. Now I'd just browse r/movies or go to Youtube and get the latest trailers.
That said, the last trailer to surprise me with equal amounts of hype, excitement, and anticipation was the trailer for Django Unchained. It helped that Quentin Tarantino as director isn't a name you always see flashed on the big screen, so the moment it did during the trailer, I was pumped.
