I'm writing a script and the main character is familyless, but not because it's important to the story, it just reinforces the theme. I was wondering if I needed to let the audience know what happened to them and I felt it was taking away from the momentum of the story. Then I was thinking about Tarantino's stories and realized not one of his characters has a family. I mean Jimmy in Pulp Fiction has Bonnie, and that's certainly needed for the tension, however, none of his characters have children. There, just my random observation.
