From 1999: WETA Elvish Test Makeup / CG Facial Warping Effect for Lord of the Rings

For some reason this old gossip story from AICN stuck in my brain. It's about how WETA was presumably testing an effect where they used computers to warp the face of an actor to change their appearance.

I thought this would have been kind of neat for the elves, but either they didn't go this route, or this was just a fake gossip story/image. I've never heard or seen any other evidence that this was being considered. Maybe it was just a quick test. Anyone at WETA back in '99 want to confirm this? :)

Either way, kind of a neat test image - and sort of reminds me of Lee Pace who would later play an elf in the Hobbit films.
