Okay. So I was going through Reddit a few weeks ago and found a post about most fucked up movies to watch. So I made a list and I ended up getting to Mother.
First thought was what the fuck. And then as the movie keeps going, what the fuck keeps popping out of my mouth. I really just had no idea what was going on the first third of the movie. Was just generally confused and nothing made sense. Then the RKO outta nowhere hit for the first time with that murder of the brother and it just kept spiraling from there. While I was still confused, more just kept happening. Then we come to find out she's pregnant. Okay, cool. Perk up maybe. Well here's another RKO outta nowhere as the poet writes his masterpiece and all fucking he'll breaks loose. First of all, HOW ARE THESE PEOPLE FINDING YOUR HOUSE AND WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM!? Oh you thought it was gonna be fine now huh? Nope. Now you have a fucking warzone in your house somehow with soldiers and everything.
Okay. At this point, now I start to realize that most of this shit isn't real. A war isn't breaking out in your house in the middle of nowhere. So what does this mean? What were her "visions" about? So here is the burning question. What do/did you think the movie was reflecting?
Personally, I thought it was depression or bipolar. How everything is going good, then an invader barges in (the doctor and his wife) and starts to mess around a little. You go mad but not terribly (finally at the breaking point of telling them to leave.) Then things start to look up (pregnant and have a family). And then here it fucking comes and all hell breaks loose (the tremendous amount of people just slowly coming, then a fuck ton of people, then they start trashing your house, next is the all out war). Then you finally reach your breaking point and burn the house down. But it's not over. Even though we "burned it down,* we find the good parts again (the crystal) and the cycle begins all over.
Edit: I know what the movie depicts. I'm asking what you thought it meant while watching, not after doing your research.
