So I know that S. Craig Zahler's Brawl in Cell Block 99 (one of my favorite films of 2017) is a modern callback to a bygone subgenre of action film, but which of those movies are really worth watching? I don't know where to look or start. Over-the-top violence filmed in clear, steady-handed wide shots, focused character work and idiosyncratic dialogue, tonally unforgiving and a general lack of restraint... where can I see more of this?
