My apologies up front if I had a bad dream and this movie doesn't exist. However, I remember a scene from a movie as a kid in the 90s (so I assume this was a movie from the early 80s, maybe late 70s) that had a black kid climbing up a chimney to escape some white rednecks that were essentially hunting him. The redneck guy blasts a shotgun up the chimney, hitting the black kid that was in the chimney. The thing I really remember was the agony of the kid after getting shot - it was one of those moments as a kid you never forget and probably changes you as a person... it was so terrifying.
That's literally all I remember. I have searched for this on and off for a few years, with no luck. Though tonight, I found a similar scene from a film called "The People Under the Stairs" but the movie seems too 'new' and the kid seems too young, the white guy wasn't a redneck, and the kid in the chimney didn't get shot.
So now I wonder if I saw this movie, then had a nightmare based on it. Does this sound familiar in any way, to anybody? Is this a thing? Or did I have a truly screwed up dream as a 9 year old?
