What are some movies that you thought were going to be hits before they bombed at the box office?
Why did you think those films were going to succeed at the time and why do you think they, ultimately, failed to attract an audience?
I was surprised that The BFG bombed a couple of years ago. It was a family friendly movie, adapted from a beloved Roald Dahl novel and was directed by Spielberg. It had all the ingredients of a hit, including decent reviews.
It flopped for the same reason a lot of movies do: strong box-office competition. It released just two weeks after Finding Dory and alongside two other popular movies (The Legend of Tarzan and The Purge: Election Year).
