How dangerous is it if my cider fermenting experiment goes wrong?

I've got a jug of organic cider with a plastic bag and rubber band over it right now. I've poured yeast and sugar in, and it's been sitting in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

I hear bacteria can make it taste gross, but is it dangerous? This is a store bought jug. I just threw things into it.
