If he did have a problem with the original Bud and Mary Sue not getting along, for example when they're fighting over the remote in the beginning, wouldn't he be looking for the best siblings and not just the ones who may know the most about Pleasantville? I'm rewatching the movie now and the he almost seems sort of increasingly creepy in his demeanor as the movie progresses. The more times I rewatch it the more confused I become.
