Today I re-watched Taken for the first time in a few years. Usually when I go back to watch movies I used to love but haven't seen in a while, they either don't hold up for me or they don't have the same effect.
So I was surprised at how well Taken holds up for me. Liam Neeson always gives a great performance, the tension and suspense is incredible, the action is very well executed, etc. I was so pumped up and exhilarated the entire time, which is something I don't always get out of action movies these days.
I'd say I only have two real gripes with the film: One is that Maggie Grace's acting is questionable at times, and the other is that the ending feels a little too happy given everything that happened. Like maybe if Bryan and Kim had a brief moment of sadness when they go to the vocal lesson, showing that it's going to be hard to move on from such a traumatic experience.
I also hope that the Paris police followed Bryan's trail of destruction and rescued all of those girls. I'm sure they did.
Still, Taken is an incredible, suspenseful and emotional action film that holds up very well 10 years later, and I'm going to give it an A-
Very glad I re-watched it. But I will never watch the sequels again. Once was good enough for me.
What do you guys think of Taken? What was your initial reaction? Does it still hold up for you? Whatever it is feel free to share your thoughts below.
