Have you tried rewriting English text to pseudocode? Is it wrong way to study language, e.g. Python?

Have you used cookbooks, intructions, self-help books(which contain patterns in behavior) to write pseudocode to practice wrtiting syntax of programming language? or it is just fun but waste of time?
