In a bit of a mood, and thought I'd solicit some recommendations. Thanks in advance. I seem to be feeling a fairly specific type of movie: a low key drama (romantic elements not a dealbreaker) where
-
The movie opens with the protagonist at a crossroads in his/her life --- either the prototypical young adult slacker trying to get his life together, or the protagonist's life is threatening to come apart, or is disillusioned, for some reason,
-
the protagonist goes on a journey --- probably a true road trip, or possibly travels to his/her old hometown, and
-
of course, the protagonist learns life lessons or experiences revelations while meeting new people (and potentially a love interest).
Not to be snobby, but for generational relevancy the ideal movies should probably be produced after 2000 (and the protagonist should probably be between 20-30). EXAMPLES: Stuff like Garden State, The Lifeguard, The Puffy Chair, etc. In contrast, Road Trip is a comedy, so wouldn't count; Easy Rider is too generationally removed; but as weird as it is, something like Safety Not Guaranteed probably would count, if this narrows it down. (No points for guessing I can't afford to go on such a trip myself...)
