So I like a good franchise. My definition of a good franchise is there can't be major weak links or obvious stretches for a money grab. Take Indiana Jones for example, 3 classics and a botched 4th. Lethal Weapon films are also a favorite of mine with all 4 films holding up well, but the TV show weakened the franchise as a whole. Harry Potter was solid until they stretched the final book into 2 movies. Lord of the rings was tainted by The Hobbit films. Tons of examples of this.
All 5 Dirty Harry movies are spot on. Sure there isn't much actual character development but it's a gritty cop franchise. All 5 deliver on that.
Dirty Harry - The intro, great bad guy
Magnum Force- great ethical questions
The Enforcer - deals with a woman trying to break into a traditional boys club
Sudden Impact - Good revenge flick with a motivated villain
The Dead Pool - creepy game with a mystery whodunit about the whole thing.
There is no need to watch these in any order. None of them were annoyingly left hinting at a sequel. They even address some racial issues that, when viewed through the 2018 woke scope, might not be perfect, they were addressed in a way very much of their time.
Sadly this will probably get tainted by a reboot shortly if there isn't one already in the works, but if anybody wants a good gritty cop franchise give ole Harry a watch.
Thanks for reading.
