Recently a lot of attention has been put on Bird Box, with comparisons to A Quiet Place which was released first to great success.
I personally enjoyed Bird Box but haven't yet seen A Quiet Place (although I do plan on watching soon).
From seeing other people's reactions to the film, I do wonder if I enjoyed it more because I couldn't compare it to A Quiet Place properly and I also wonder if my viewing of AQP will be affected negatively/positively by watching BB first...
I have experienced this before when I watched Goodfellas for the first time recently (yes I know, it just always slipped by me) and then realised how it is similar to The Wolf of Wall Street in many ways, a film which I had previously seen and loved. Both are from Scorcese, chart the rise and fall of a criminal and many scenes & characters share similar tones/themes (although obviously a lot more deaths in Goodfellas).
This meant that the impact of Goodfellas was lessened for me and I'd prefer to watch Wolf again if given the choice (even though I can appreciate that Goodfellas is a great film that tops many critical lists and obviously came first).
There are many many examples of films which share striking similarities over the years but which ones do you think suffered or benefited from you watching them first?
