On John Wick and Parallels to Don Quixote

As we all know, the song used for the John Wick 3: Parabellum trailer is none other than The Impossible Dream, one of the iconic songs from the musical Man of La Mancha, which contains the story of crazy old Alonso Quijano, aka Don Quixote.

Aside from the parallels between the lyrics and John Wick's story (his "unreachable star" being the complete freedom from the assassin world), parallels can also be drawn from the story of Don Quixote himself. Like Don Quixote, John has been "tilting at windmills" (a phrase that can mean "an importune, unfounded, and vain effort against adversaries real or imagined for a vain goal") in the form of killing in pursuit of his vain goal to finally break free and retire. Also like Don Quixote, John is being seen by his peers as an irrational man, in his case, for thinking that he could completely leave his assassin life behind.

This is why I also believe that John will die in Parabellum. Going back to some of the song's final lines:

And the world will be better for this / that one man, scorned and covered with scars / stood strong with his last ounce of courage / to reach the unreachable star

This also reflects the end story of Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, where he died holding on to his impossible dream. That John Wick, scorned and covered with scars after the events of the previous movie, will have a final stand with his last ounce of courage and sheer will, and finally reach his own unreachable star and lie peaceful and calm when he's lain to his rest.

Granted, I may be looking at this wrong, and that there may or may not be a parallel between Helen (John's wife) and Dulcinea.

Also, John has a horse now. His very own Rocinante.
