I just re-watched X-Men First Class and Days of Future Past.
While I was somewhat whelmed with First Class which was only alright but had some incredible moments like Charles teaching Eric the balance between Anger and Serenity or Mr. Magneto Nazi Hunter I was taken aback by how much I loved Days of Future Past.
It's almost like I forgot how good it was. Is there any other Superhero Movie that starts and ends as strong as this? The action in the future is handled extremely well. The Portals are so freaking cool. In the present we start out with more grounded Wolverine action which strikes a great balance. Obviously Quicksilver's scene is also incredible.
Charles' is so much more interesting as a conflicted man who lost his ways. Him trading in his powers for his legs and reverting back by the end of the movie was extremely powerful. The dynamic between him and Eric upon meeting eachother again was the most gripping it's ever been in the franchise.
The scene between Patrick Steward and McAvoy was beautiful. Wolverine snapping out of the future when meeting Stryker was memorable. Jennifer Lawrence does the most Mystique stuff she's done in all of her appearences. All in all every plotline felt like it carried weight. Every character bar the villain had interesting internal conflicts going on and the ending was pretty much perfect.
I'd need a lot more time and a ton of notes which I sadly didn't take to write down everything I love about this movie. I feel like it's left out of so many discussions about the best CBM's to date.
