People who have been on weight loss or other before/after reality shows (not including makeover shows that include hairstyle in the storyline) is there an allowance given for a visit to the hair salon unbeknownst to viewers?

I’ve been binging Supersize vs. Superskinny and noticed during the reveals that most contestants noticeably changed their hair. Not just a freshening cut, but different dye jobs, hi-lights, bangs, obvious changes in style. I’ve seen similar changes on other shows such a Supernanny that does not focus on appearance at all. Is there something in these contracts that requires a change in hairstyle? Is there money provided to encourage changes? I understand changes to appearance may be the effect of an enhanced mental state as a result of increased confidence, reduced stress, etc., but the trend in reality show hair changes in before vs. after seems to produced by the show rather than autonomous choice.
