Hi friends. I'll try to be as succinct as possible.
So I'm a university sophomore studying computer science, and I've been looking for CS internships this summer with no success. I'm still looking, but chances are getting slim.
The thing is, my family wants me to go away from my university town and work for them this summer since I couldn't find an internship. My family works at a clothing store and they've been trying to go online, but they are immigrants and it's been really difficult for them to learn new technology, and their English is immigrant-level english. When I say difficult, I mean they don't even know how to move through a website.
That's where I've been coming in and doing online errands for them every time I visited back at home. But this is something that they always ask me to do EVERY time I move back home because finances are tight and they're too old to learn a new profession. I really don't like doing e-commerce and they can't just ask me to do their work, but they can't afford to find someone in the area who would handle the online side of selling.
However, I feel guilty whenever I tell them that I don't want to go home because I always end up doing that, but for me, I don't think it's right that they become dependent on me to do their online work. But at the same time, they CAN'T learn it because of their fixed skillset.
I just don't know what to do with this situation. Any advice would be appreciated. To give context with the online business, it's managing the Amazon, Etsy, any online commerce store for my parents and uploading new material and contacting the customers for any issues, purchases, etc.
I would need to be in close proximity with my parents to quickly handle things as well as shipments.
Thanks in advance.
