Literally every plot point builds upon another. From the beginning when Brenden Gleason tries to go to the tower and doesn’t want to break his 50 (he keeps his coins and those are the ones he drops to warn Colin Farrell later), to the Americans that can’t get up to the tower which plays a plot point later when the tower closes.
