There was a very specific type of humor found in these movies. They were basically "mock movies", but they were really their own genre back then. Are there any movies from the last decade or so that come close to this kind of humor?
I've heard the comedy found in these movies ("e.g. "Spaceballs" and "Police Academy") is "Midwestern" comedy. I can't find any modern examples of this and I'm fairly certain it's gone extinct...
