Personally, I love the film. I believe it took the tremendously beautiful story of the play and portrayed it through the unique lens of film. I consider the changes made were great - from the choice to utilize performances which accentuated emotional detail and intimate rawness (as apposed to the boisterous stage presence of Broadway), to slight story changes (I Dreamed a Dream being placed AFTER Fantine prostitutes herself), to an overall alteration of the tone of the story, giving it more realistic grit and authenticity. The film is one of my all time favorites.
However, when I look at reviews online, it seems the film was relatively poorly reviewed. For this I do not understand why. Any thoughts?
