App to track upcoming movie released that I'm interested in?

One thing that I find infuriating about the movie industry (paired with my goldfish memory), is that I will see a good trailer and think "that looks great!", but I will completely forget about it by the time its released 2-6 months later.

Is there any app where I can simply flag movies/trailers as "interested" and it will remind me (email / push notification) when eventually actually released? Or better yet, something that could add suggestions to me as well. For example "You liked movie X, you might be interested in Movie Y upcoming release this weekend".

The only thing i remember is one of the character, who's a hitmen/henchmen wearing a red and white horizontally stripped sweater. He shows up to the targets apartment and they have a long fist fight. I've recently started my college courses (I'm a senior), and a lot of the courses include public speaking or reading papers and poetry aloud. I'm an extremely anxious person, so I'm wondering if I should try to bring in a note from my doctor to prove my anxiety or just talk to the professors and see if they would understand it. Feels like comedies have been improving visually lately

Just saw Ready or Not and while it was small scale visually I felt it was lit in a very stylish and appropriate way. It made me think back to Game Night last year, which was lit like a David Fincher spoof. There was also Paddington 2, which nailed a Wes Anderson aesthetic. Not to mention the bright colorfulness of Crazy Rich Asians.

It feels like we're coming out of a flatly shot Judd Apatow era where the visuals and style took a back seat to the actors improvising.

Is there a movie about "stepping into the real world of work/life"

I've spend the last years of my life getting my university degree and now that I got it I should be ready to step into the "Real world of life and work"... but to be honest, it kinda scares the crap out of me. I've never really worked in my life, cause I had trouble with combining it with my school/study, so now the leap i gotta take is looking kinda scary.

Now I've spend the last week watching a couple coming of age movies, but they're mostly aimed at highschool life.

So basically, this girl used to be one of my best friends in middle school, and since we moved on to different high schools, we haven't spoken yet, but just today she posted a picture of herself in (what I can only assume is her) bathroom on her Instagram story, with a black and white filter and the text Should I do it? Upside down with the option for us to choose between yes or no, (I'm sure most of y'all know what I'm talking about)

This is all the context I have behind it, and just so everyone knows she isn't edgy and usually never uploads pictures with a black and white picture, she's a very colorful person and she has a boyfriend and even tho I haven't talked to her in 2 years, I'm very worried, is there a possibility that she's having some mental issues and is it reasonable for me to worry? Also have any of you been in a similar situation and what do you think?

Burning (2018)

This is one of my favorite movies from last year and what surprised me the most was how much it sinks into your mind and stays there after you watch it. It's definitely one of those movies where it gets better as time passes and you process it more. I didn't really think much of it when it ended. I thought the pacing was a bit of a struggle. I was really impressed by Steven Yuen's performance. It was subtle and nuanced and, to me, he really carried this movie. There are also some moments where the music and visuals work together perfectly. But I think the movie's real strength is that there's this inexplicable and elusive element to it that stays with you after the movie ends.

★★★

Gist: A simple, but well made Western revenge story. Nothing new or amazing here, but a quality production.

Is this movie just John Wick, but a Western? Uh, kind of. The primary strength of this movie is not its script. It all plays out more or less how you might predict once you get about 30 minutes into the movie. The strength of this movie is that it is:

• well acted. Ethan Hawke and John Travolta are great in this. (Nice to see Travolta in a good movie)

• well made. A very professional production on a technical level. Very efficient, but solid film-making.

The weakness of the movie is that it offers very little that you have not seen before. Kind of just pieced together from many other revenge movies. However, if you are a fan of Westerns, this is one to check out. You pretty much get what you expect, but that is not a bad thing.

Decent, nothing amazing.

Ikiru (1952)

I saw this a few years ago and, at the time, considered it one of the best I had ever seen. I recently rewatched it and I still think that's the case. One of the things that I really like about Kurosawa is the way he composes his shots. In Ikiru, every shot feels meticulous and meaningful without being indulgent or excessive. Everything that's shown on camera feels like there was thought put into why and how things are shown the way they are. There are usually multiple things going on in one shot and there's often a relationship between the action occurring in the foreground and the background. What makes this movie so incredible to me is that there's such a seamless union between movie's technical choices and its story. And what a story. There is so much truth packed into this movie that I feel it's one of the few times where it's appropriate to say that a movie is life-changing.

Anyone see The Wilde Wedding?

What amazing cast! Glenn Close, Patrick Stewart, John Malkovich, Jack Davenport, Minnie Driver and that woman from Orange is the New Black!

It's an absolute mess of a movie, though. So I really hope someone's seen it because I really would like to have some things explained to me.

***Spoilers!***

My biggest mystery is who the hell were the Mexicans that just showed up randomly half-way through the movie and didn't do much? They showed up after Patrick Stewart, who gave the dad a big hug, so I thought they were with him, but when he leaves at the end, they stick around.

Further confusion is added because each side of the wedding has a 20-something daughter bring a 20-something friend along. So we have two groups of indistinguishable 20-something girls. I believe they are Yael Stone, a blonde and a Brazilian for Team Patrick Stewart, with the Brazilian being the non-relative friend. Then for Team John Malkovich, we've got a blonde and a black woman, the black woman being the friend. So, okay....the Brazilian, the black woman and one of the blondes are in their PJs in bed together. The Brazillian gets a text, and one of the others reads it. But these women aren't all friends, are they? The Brazilian and the black lady are on different sides of the family, and I don't know which blonde it was but she could go either way. So do people really hang out in their underwear in bed with someone they just met and casually read their sexts?

Which brings me to what the fuck happened? The sext she received is from "THE BOSS" and says "Come out to the garden". John Malkovich coincidentally goes outside and some person runs off in the distance shouting, "Who's the boss now, Saffy!" (Saffy being the Brazilian's nickname.) John Malkovich sees what I assume is a her (because the voice was a female voice) and proceeds to where she was running from to discover Patrick Stewart and the Brazilian going at it. So why was the third person there? And why would they not react to her asking them who the boss is now? Whoever it was, they I guess recorded the fucking because the video ends up....

On the black womans blog!?!? What the fuck? First off, why is the black woman fucking over these people who invited her to their wedding who she just met? Second, why does everyone in the wedding party, who only just met her, subscribe to her blog? (I do think there was a scene with one of the kids or someone talking about her blog and how cool it is that she can post whatever she wants there.) Then, was the general public aware of this video? Is Patrick Stewart famous enough for anyone to care?

And seriously, did the 8-year old boy just hack her blog and delete the blog post in 6 seconds? Was that actually what happened?

Speaking of the black woman, Noah Emmerich had a crush on her or what? I don't know what was going on with him. He was on the phone the whole time talking to someone's employer who he says was on a bus and he wanted to know who they were. But if it was the black woman.....couldn't he just ask his daughter what her name is? It's her friend, isn't it? Or was he talking about someone else, and if so, who? And why did nothing come of that?

I also think there were two little boys, but maybe there was just one. He/they were apparently a computer hacker and a singer/dancer. One is named Sam. And they're either Minnie Driver's kid (separate from Jack Davenport) or Noah Emmerich's. The hacker boy seemed to be hanging out with Noah Emmerich's family a lot, but later Minnie Driver has a little boy come to her door asking where she was, and Jack Davenport puts that kid in her bed, and Minnie Driver says something about having to call "Sam's dad". So are there two boys? If so, who are their parents?

How is the cousin related? The "main character" seems to suggest they're not super close biologically because he's "once removed". I don't know what that means for sure, but I think it means the kid of a cousin, but her oldest cousin is 20-something and probably wouldn't have a 16-year old son. So who the heck is he and where did he come from?

Then there's the weird instant message scene. So the Mexican boy IMs the main character girl suggesting she hit on her cousin. So she IMs her cousin, right? They're all sitting in the same room. But her cousin is IMing someone else. Is that just a random person or someone else we know? And why the absolute fuckin' racist comment "Wanna ditch Cheech and Chong?" I mean, they just met these Mexicans. They've been nothing but decent to her, with this Mexican boy even encouraging her to make a move on her cousin, which she's doing, and she says that? And she's the narrator/"main character" who now is just a casual racist bitch? Like, what?

Speaking of her, what the hell was with the documentary framing? Why is she telling people in the documentary that she wants to fuck her cousin? And who's it for? Did she make it or what? It seems like they gave up on that gimmick almost immediately.

Also, get this, they had Minnie Driver and Jack Davenport play Americans and Yael Stone, who's apparently Australian, play a British person. What's happening? Was the casting of this movie just some sort of strange dare?

As an aside, I think they really missed an opportunity to have solved the incest problem by making the cousin gay and having that be revealed to the narrator girl by her noticing him and the Mexican boy flirting with each other. It would have given the cousin some characterization as well as given at least one of the Mexicans a reason to be in the movie. But yeah, "In our family, love is weird, so I'm going to fuck my cousin" is fine too I guess.

Do you think the majority (over 50%) of 15 year olds have seen the original Star Wars?

Everyone has probably either heard of or seen Star Wars, but the same can be said of a lot of other major franchises.

In terms of how long it will endure I think it matters what this next generation has seen/feels attachment to, to the extent they would want to show their kids and so on. So that in 50 or more years these movies are still relevant/being watched.

I think however (although there are newer Star Wars coming out) the originals have already started to fade from average viewership, so that this generation won't be showing the next.

Im just curious as to everyone's opinion on if the majority of teens that age have seen the originals or not.

Irony is at it strongest with 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, as a pivotal moment literally involves a powerful current of suck, in a film that feels like it’s constantly circling the drain.

When 47 Meters Down first debuted in theaters, 2017 audiences turned an unassuming horror film into a surprising hit. A sequel was all but assured in that moment, which eventually lead to the creation of 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.

In situations such as these, the law of diminishing returns becomes a concern, as a second bite at the apple isn’t always going to be as fresh as the first. As it applies to director Johannes Roberts’ return trip to the series he helped make a sleeper success, the returns have not only diminished, they’ve totally cratered with ludicrously boring results.

Rather than act as a direct sequel or even be remotely connected to its predecessor, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is a totally new story about a pair of step-sisters (Sistine Rose Stallone and Corinne Foxx) who aren’t the best of siblings. What’s supposed to be a day of bonding imposed by their parents (Nia Long and John Corbett) turns into a day out with some friends, in a secluded spot far away from anyone’s knowledge.

Curiosity about an underwater ruin gets the better of this group, and soon the four young women are trapped in a submerged city, with a hungry shark stalking them through the labyrinthian passages they need to navigate to freedom.

From the outset, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged looked like it was going to take the concept of humans versus sharks and turn it into something more tense and exciting than it did in 47 Meters Down. And yet, somehow, this fresh adventure in the world of aquatic terror is an even saltier disappointment than the already lackluster original.

Part of this movie’s problem is the fact that for most of the already short running time 47 Meters Down: Uncaged has to its credit, it’s a water-logged bore. There’s no real sense of tension or build up in the opening acts, and when the action gets going, the scares are mostly telegraphed with extremely obvious signals.

The few moments that manage to surprise the audience are either cheap jump scares or unintentionally funny moments that undercut any sort of terrorizing moments. So with the latter present, you would think that at the very least, this sequel would have some self-aware fun with itself, right?

Nothing could be further from the truth, as even the moments meant to be cheesy fun come off as lazy, with no real payoff. Not to mention that there’s one “shocking moment” that’s been stolen from another, more interesting shark film, leaving the product you’re reading about with only one really good kill in its arsenal.

Even that entertainment is ruined by the fact that 47 Meters Down: Uncaged doesn’t have enough character development to make you care what happens to the humans in the first place. There's also not enough thrills that make the sharks particularly exciting to watch. It’s a rare feat to see a film that walks a tightrope of boredom between the horror and comedy possibilities a movie like this presents in its most modestly gamed scenarios. And yet, this project deftly avoids succeeding in either category, leaving a deeply disinteresting film on the screen.

Perhaps the most frustrating part about this creature feature is that the finale lays all of its shark cards on the line in one final move of desperation, but it’s so repetitive in the way it plays them that it becomes as laughable as the idea of making this sequel. Irony is at it strongest with 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, as a pivotal moment literally involves a powerful current of suck in a film that feels like it’s constantly circling the drain.

In any given year, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged might have been a merely boring prospect at best. However, as this is the same movie season that showed us how Crawl could use enclosed spaces, an aquatic menace and a short running time to a severely more entertaining effect, excuses as to why this story couldn’t get the job done are particularly thin. Avoid this depth charge of lameness at all costs, as its failures aren’t even interesting enough to behold on even a passive level of snark.

Villains we love to hate

Sometimes you just need that one antagonist who makes your blood boil every time he shows up on screen.

For me it’s Reverend Harry Powell from “Night of the Hunter”. I really don’t think I’ve ever hated a fictional character this much before. He’s not on the same scale as some other vile antagonists who appear in movies, but that’s part of why he’s so much more hateable to me. He’s a villain that is so deeply ingrained in our society that it’s scary. An abusive alcoholic monster who terrorized his children on a daily basis, and also a misogynistic prick who murders women and steals their money so he can continue spreading his bullshit preachings. Even worse is how long it takes for him to finally get what’s coming to him.

The weirdest let is that I hate almost all black and white films except for Night of the Hunter, even though the movie makes me feel like shit. I guess it’s just something about watching Harry Powell again so I can punch a hole in the nearest wall.

So I have a bunch of movies on my watchlist downloaded and ready to go, but always get indecisive about what to watch first lol. Two problems with Terminator Dark Fate

There are only two problems with the upcoming movie and these are issues from the trailer.

1. The Rev 9 model Terminator does not look like liquid metal while it shape-shifts. If you look at the trailer and watch how it morphs outside the truck the movements of the liquid doesn't obey the physics of liquid metal. The movements are cubic and geometric. As if what we are seeing is not liquid metal but instead nanotechnology. I think this terminator is exhibiting nanotechnology. The last frame showing Grace smashing its face and watching it heal itself shows the strange cubic movements of the metal.

2. The "Who are you" line in the trailer is damaging because of a serious continuity error. How could Grace not know who Sarah Conner is? This error means Terminator 2 never happened. Otherwise Grace should clearly already know about the famous exploits of THE Sarah Conner from Terminator 2.

It used to be that you had to make a direct and clear statement that you, yourself would be the one to physically cause them harm. Now people are getting arrested for just wishing death on certain people which should be part or freedom of speech. There are probably millions of people including myaelf wishing trump would die. Him chokimg to death on his mcdonalds would be pure karma. Hell he threatens death on millions of people all the time. Why isnt he being arrested?

As my understanding of the law is, one has to give a direct threat of causing harm to someone to be considered a terrorist threat.

Simple thrillers like Crawl?

Hello all,

I took my mother to see Crawl a couple weeks ago and she had a blast. I'm asking for recommendations for similar movies.

The snag is that she's either had traumatic brain injury or is possibly in early-to-mid stages of dementia, so movies need to be exceptionally simple for her to follow along (for example, she had a lot of trouble understanding what was going on during Black Mirror s5e1).

She likes horror/thriller movies and enjoys the campier side of things. Do you know of any movies that fit this bill currently on Netflix or Sony Crackle?

Can anyone tell me the name of this movie?

I remember watching a slasher movie when I was young (10+ years ago) but I can’t remember its name. I can recall that it was about a group of young people in the woods being killed by some weird guy who was taught as a child to be very isolationist and kills any intruders in his neck of the woods.

Some other things I can remember is that, at one point, the killer twists a girl’s neck several times over.

Also, at the movie’s ending, the only survivor goes back to the killer’s cabin with a police officer. We then see, through shadows on the wall, as they enter the house and the officer is killed with a pickaxe to the head. The guy is then killed as well and the credits roll while we see blood spurting on the wall as the killer hits the guy non-stop with the pickaxe

"Light of My Life" is best film I've seen in at least a year or more.

Reminded me more of Gerry (2002) than of The Road or Children of Men. Somehow reminded me more of Winter's Bone but it's more in tone than anything.

Don't want to spoil the film but it is extremely tense, more so if you are a parent perhaps. What would you do for your children?

What are your thoughts on the 2013 'Wolverine' ?

It has Hiroyuki Sanada who is one of my favorite Japanese actors. I love the fight scene Hugh and him have, one of my favorite X-Men duels. I remember hearing that Fox said no to a lot of gory plot line. On top of stated they wanted a pg13 film so they said no to the gore they were planning on adding. It was because of this that when it came to the 2017 Logan they with out permission put in all the gore and adult language they want to finally tell the Logan story they wanted to tell. Of course when this happened Fox pulled all funding and Hugh and the Director had to fun the rest of the project themselves which of course was a huge success. The Wolverine was a stepping stone, or learning process for them that very much made Logan such a great film. Yet I still enjoyed The Wolverine, it can be corny at times but I think it's still a very fun film.

What were my rights here when I got pulled over? Can I press charges against these police?

Hi reddit, bear with me if this is pretty scattered, because this event just happened.

I recently relocated for a new job, and I make an effort every weekend to explore different parts of the city and town. My tags on my car aren't updated yet and I drive a black sports car. I feel I've been profiled so hard since my move here as this was the second time this has happened.

I honestly have been just exploring the city, and as a young man in his 20's who just relocated for his first job after college, this whole experience is just new.

I never got in trouble with the law before, so whenever I get pulled over it flares up my anxiety disorder. I start shaking, trembling, etc making me look like im hiding something when Im just an anxious guy and overwhelmed with the move.

Anyways today I checked out the casino in the city, and after my gig I went to get fried chicken around the block. it goes from a 'good/ok' area to a 'bad' ghetto area I guess. I don't really think too much of it, but cops do. I see a cop car in front of me and strangely he stops then pulls to the side. He lets me go first then I was thinking hes probably going to pull me over making up some excuse. What do you know thats exactly what he does.

He first pulls me over, not telling me why he pulled me over. The second cop comes up and also doesn't say anything just asking what I was doing. He asked if I had any drugs in my car and I said no. THIS is where he said do you mind if I search your car? I said no, but he took it as saying no I dont mind and he told me to step out the vehicle.

the first cop asked if the second one told me why I got pulled over. I said no, and he said that I was reported to have meet and greet someone and I was called in as suspicious and he accused me of making a deal or something like that. he asked If I met someone recently or talked to anyone which I declined because I was at the fried chicken store.

• Is he allowed to search my car if I say no? Or would this have made me get a ticket or something for not cooperating?

  • If I said no, would he been allowed to tow my car with the probable cause that someone supposedly called me in

I know that phone in and meeting someone story was bullshit because I saw him stop and proceed to let me through after I got my meal.

The cops started groping me and patting me down in front of everyone on street. I was so nerve wracked that a coworker would see this and embarrassed.

I am naive and stupid so I didn't know my rights. I didn't break any laws or participate in a drug deal. Afterwards they told me that I was just in a bad area of town and I shouldn't be here. They are just trying to keep me safe because people here would shoot me just to drive my car (lol)

What were my rights here though? I clearly got profiled, and either my vehicle was mistaken for another or he made that story up. Next time, what can I say to just keep going? Also, what do I say so that he doesn't search my car? Could I say no.? he manipulated me by saying, if you have no drugs in your car you dont mind if we search it?

I'm always thinking on this

Hello, I just want to know if this everyone's problem or something rare/uncommon that happens to me. So basically everytime I do something, watch or work I have this urgency of improving the process and I often spend my free time (even at work) thinkig on ways to improve that specific mechanism, for example when watching YouTube videos I always think on how can the page be improved, like wild ideas of buttons or features that should be added and I send comments on almost evey single platform I use to let them know how to fix it. Same at work, I stay unpayed overtime trying my best to present new ideas/mechanisms (I'm honestly not even trying to get a better position), and the funny thing is that I like doing that, for some reason it comes to me naturally. Besides that I'm super lazy and don't do anything unless I enjoy it. Well, thank you for your time.

Is it weird for someone not to have a favorite director?

I havent seen a ton of movies. On letterboxd around 950 movies marked as watched. I have a lot of directors that I enjoy, but not one that I could label as my absolute favorite. I still have a ton of directors that I havent completely explored their filmography. Examples include Scorsese, Spielberg, Hitchcock, PT Anderson, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Fellini or even Satyajit Ray. Even weirder since directing is what I aspire to do. Just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way.
