Recently I’ve gotten very into haunted house films. Particularly the ones with paranormal investigators who try to get to the bottom of the mystery, as opposed to just experiencing supernatural phenomenon as victims.
Some of my favorites so far have been:
Ghostwatch - Brilliant BBC tv special, definitely going to be added to the halloween watchlist.
The Haunting - The ‘63 version is a classic, but I have a soft spot for the original as well.
Hell House - Much like the book it’s based on, the film builds great tension but sort of falls flat in the final reveals.
The Conjuring - I really didn’t enjoy this one in theaters but it surprisingly worked for me on a rewatch. I think I could watch Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga do anything and it would be a good movie.
