I recently re-watched a pile of Paul Newman movies (Hud, The Hustler, The Color of Money, Road to Perdition) and The Verdict is perhaps one of his most overlooked performances.
Written by David Mamet and Directed by Sidney Lumet, the movie follows an ambulance chaser / alcoholic attorney (played by Newman) who is forced to face his fears of being a washed-up has-been, when he chooses to take a difficult case to court.
In his personal life, Newman had some alcohol issues and made this movie 4 years after his son died of drug overdose. Great channeled performance in this film (also, if you're not familiar with Newman's work, this is the mini-doc I made about his life as an actor: https://youtu.be/YDTAPYKkXZs )
