So I was watching the 90's version of Dennis the Menace tonight on Netflix with my kids. I noticed that the sound mixing on this particular movie is horrendous. I had the volume on my receiver at around -20 decibels to be able to hear dialogue. The next scene comes on involving a train and the volume was then horrendously loud. I kept having to adjust the volume up and down between scenes with dialogue and scenes with action. The only other movie I remember being this way was Heat. My question is: Why does this occur? When the movie is mixed is this noticed that there is a giant juxtaposition between audio and action sound levels?
