The King of Masks (China, 1996) is a fantastic movie that pretty much anyone would like. The child star, 10-year-old Renying Zhou, gives a wonderful performance. And... it seems to be the only film Zhou ever made. Plot description follows.

PLOT: In 1930s China, an aging street performer has perfected the art of storytelling with instantly-changing masks. Tradition holds that he can only pass his trade secrets to a male heir. But he has no children -- his wife ran off decades ago, and their only child died when he was 10. He encounters child traffickers selling the children of poor families, and buys a young boy to adopt as his grandchild.

Trailer here, but if you haven't seen the movie I suggest not watching the trailer, as it gives away a major plot point.

I really think anyone would like this movie, which is in Chinese with English subtitles available. I was really, really impressed with Renying Zhou's naturalistic performance as the boy. I went to check the imdb page, and was astonished that this seems to have been Zhou's only role ever.
