Bipedal robots are hard. Boston Dynamics' Atlas is probably the most advanced, but it's still not really cut out for adaptive tasks (yet). Spot on the other hand is very adaptable for a wide range of tasks. It has one fatal flaw if you want to use it for human-replacable tasks; it's too short to reach counter tops, even with its freaky arm thing. This makes cooking and other tasks that require a counter off the table.
Centaur robots on the other hand can reach counter tops, while also being able to do everything Spot-like robots can do. They also have more advantages, such as:
- They can hold more cargo.
- They can fit larger batteries and last longer.
- They are more stable, allowing more human-like arms and hands to be used.
Tesla is going about the Tesla Bot wrong. Bipedal robots are not worth it. Centaurs are where it is at.
