After leaving the theatre last night, I felt conflicted with the experience I had while watching RealD presentations. First, I'll start by mentioning this was noticed after watching the same film, in two different auditoriums (same theatre), in a different seat. To summarize, circumstances did not improve the situation.
My problem is this: Theatres aren't compensating for the increased darkness when using RealD glasses.
I noticed a loss of detail, but more importantly, color and light. In some cases, the darkness became too great to easily see what was being shown. This problem could likely be fixed with a tweak of the projector settings, but I worry this isn't something theatres will do willingly without motivation from the public.
