In The Predator, it seemed out of character for the Yautja to use DNA to try and make themselves more powerful. They were a Hunter race that liked to hunt because it was enjoyable to them and gave them honour. The make themselves more powerful through genetic engineering to the point where guns can't hurt them takes away any point of their hunts where they had a chance to die on them.
I felt it would have been more in-character for them to gather DNA to create better prey for them to hunt.
