Why the Black Panther hate?

There’s been a lot of anti-Black Panther commenting going on this subreddit. I’m really curious as to why people hate it and call it a bad movie? I’m not a fan of Superhero movies. I enjoy the comics, but the movies are always so cheesy and formulaic to me. Black Panther was a breath of fresh air. It was a film that was structured like an African Play (drawing on inspiration from the Lion King play), it gave a new cultural perspective on the Superhero movie genre, and it had a compelling Protagonist and Antagonist dynamic. As a Black Male, I think the film did an excellent job of representing our culture. From the Hip Hop culture presented in Oakland, to the African imagery in Wakanda. It’s a very relatable film for me. I think it’s also a very accessible film for those who aren’t privy to Black Culture. It’s a very socially conscious and relevant take on a Superhero film.

I’m not saying the movie is perfect. I think that it’s overhyped to a certain degree. I DO NOT THINK IT DESERVES A BEST PICTURE NOMINATION AT ALL. The CGI is bad in some cases, the movie is predictable at times, the characterization is poor on the Wakandan side. I think it’s a good movie with flaws. However, the notion that it’s terrible is unreasonable. The hate I’ve seen in this subreddit comes from people who are trying to counter the hype, and in some cases it comes from those who want to downplay the film’s success because it’s targeted towards the black culture.

Why do you like, or dislike Black Panther?
