Sneak in food?
Do most movie goers sneak in food to movie theaters? For whatever reason I have not been to a theater in like a decade. But when we did go we would stop and get candy and whatever's to bring in. I think we snuck in a few slices of pizza in my GFs giant purse as well as alcohol. Is this still a thing or has movie theater security turned up their enforcement efforts to squeeze every cent out of customers?
And also what's the most outrageous thing you've seen someone eat in a movie theater?
Anyone litterally get an entire pizza in? Whole entree of steak and potatoes on paperplate eaten on your lap? BBQ leftovers? Maybe an actual whole Durian?

People who perform in whatever arts/sports etc have a special kind of confidence
I was "forced" to take singing lessons with a friend, she didn't want to do it alone and I was dragged along for the classes. Didn't realize how insecure I was with myself, and I couldn't sing properly, and as time went by I got a lot better and more relaxed and confident with my voice and I could sing a note without wavering or falling flat due to reasons of being insecure. Obviously I still have my moments of doubt when singing, but it's gotten much better and you overall feel much more confident. Now I understand why people say get a hobby or something that you can lean on to feel confident into yourself and be happier. Because you sometimes meet people and you're shocked when they perform or do whatever they do as a hobby and they almost seem like someone else.

Looking for a good "guy" movie
My wife is out of town and she typically doesn't like so-called "guy" movies. I'm looking for a recommendation of a movie that would typically fall into this category. I am thinking along the lines of good action, sci-fi, fantasy, war, etc.
Disclaimer: I'm aware that gender is not a predictor of what movies people will like, and I'm halfway being facetious how about the guy movie label.

What is a Film and What is a Movie?
Are the words film and movie synonymous to you?
In my opinion they are not.
I think a film is always a movie but perhaps not vice versa. That is a film is a movie but not all movies are films.
For example I would posit that Jurassic Park is a film whereas Jurassic World is a movie.
The distinction lies in a certain artistic element that is hard to describe. Je ne sais quoi. The difference between an experience that leaves you merely smiling, and one that leaves you weeping joyfully.
A film is transcendent. A movie is temporal.
My apologies if this meta posting isn't welcome. Please share your opinions. The above is merely my personal take on the colloquial culture.

What movie argument do you wish you could make a middled, pros and cons case for, which you never can make because people immediately assume you're a part of either the abusive, obsessed detractors or the head-in-the-clouds defender?
For me it's The Last Jedi. A film whose parts seemed equally awesome (color palette, Throne room scene, Luke's astral projection) and baffling (Luke's hermitage, Snoke's irrelevance).
This is obviously a problem in more than just arguments about movies. You shouldn't be pigeonholed for making a criticism on its own. Nuance can still exist (?)

Primal Fear - Did Aaron really have a split personality, or was he just a psychopath like he claims at the end?
Just finished watching Primal Fear. Pretty excellent movie, and that is an awesome "twist" at the end. I did a quick read up of what other people thought about it online. And it seems most people (and Wikipedia) are taking the end scene at face value - that Aaron was just faking having a personality disorder the entire time, and that Aaron and Roy are one and the same, and always have been.
I didn't read it this way. For me it's a lot more ambiguous. I interpreted this scene to be... that Aaron actually did have a split personality. Aaron's second identity - Roy, is a complete manipulator. And that after his attack on Venable in the courthouse, he was still in the Roy personality when conversing with Vail in his cell, and merely pretended to be Aaron temporarily. Maybe he did this because he wants to fuck with Gere's character, or maybe he wants to be seen as the smart one, or the alpha personality.
So, the reasons why I think he really does have a split personality disorder are:
1. In the scene where Aaron is running from the cops, he looks genuinely terrified, the character of "Roy" would not look so scared in my opinion. He was hiding in the bushes directly after the murder, not very Roy. This was Aaron - the good side of the personality.
2. He sang on the church choir, again I can't see Roy doing this, even for show. He's bad through and through.
3. There is no way the archbishop would have brought "Roy" to stay with him in the first place - since the archbishop was a peadophile (or at least a pervert, can't remember if they specified), he would have targeted someone who was weak-willed and easily manipulated. The character of "Roy" certainly was none of these things, Aaron certainly was though.
4. He was diagnosed as having a split personality by a neurological expert. Aaron/Roy would not have been educated enough to so successfully fake the symptoms and fool an expert like this.
5. We see Aarons face multiple times, where he knows he is unobserved by the other characters, and retains the clueless expression and harmless demeanour of Aaron.
6. In the scene where we first see a glimpse of Roy, it is in the scene with the neurologist. He only becomes Roy when the battery on the camera dies, this fact later hurts his case in court, as there is no video evidence to back up this claim he has a split personality.
7. In the scene where Roy reveals himself to Vail for the first time, he impersonates Aaron by doing a stutter in his speech. So Roy has a history of imitating Aaron, but pushes this further in the final cell scene with Vail.
Whether he has a split personality or not, it's awesome that the movie messes with your head so much and makes you doubt and second-guess yourself. What do people think? Am I onto something, or am I reading too much into it. Anyone else see any proof to prove either way?

I just watched Jordan Peeles "US" and... the movie kinda sucked IMHO.
First of all, the movie went on for way too long. 2 hours what should have been told in a nice and crisp short story. Some scenes were dragging on for way too long. There was no suspense or anticipation during these scenes. They just showed the same thing for way too long. In the end for example the main character walks for like 5 minutes through corridors to get to her destination. I caught myself watching the clock multiple times. And when someone is counting for the minutes to pass and for the movie to be over, it's never a good sign.
But that's not my main critique point. What bothered me the most was the reveal of who the doppelgangers were.
I was personally thinking that they were the actual shadows of the people. Like as shadows they were second grade citizens their whole life. They had been prisoners (therefore the redish suits) of their masters. And now they had finally cut themselves loose and free (therefore the scissors). And now they wanted to kill their former masters and take their lives. That would have made sense IMO. Of course it would have been diving into more of the sci-fi territory than Peeles first movie "GET OUT", but still... it would have made more sense.
The reveal of who the doppelgangers were opens up so, so, so many questions. And the main question being why the doppelgangers were copying the moves of their masters at times. With them being what they were, it doesn't make much sense.
The movie wasn't bad. But me personally, I would have just made it 15-20 minutes shorter. I would have had the supernatural element of them being the actual shadows manifested as distorted copies of the people. And I wouldn't have made the twist ending so obvious. When you have just one doppelganger being able to do something the others can't, you pretty much make it clear to everyone with half a brain that something is off about that one doppelganger.
What I liked about the movie were the characters though, with the family dad being my favorite. I like it when movies are a little bit tongue-in-cheek and don't take themselves all too seriously. Especially when you have kids going around and killing others as well.

What movie does this describe?
Edit: nevermind, I found it. Unlawful entry
I saw a movie on TV when I was 13 which was about some businessman (opened a night club) who's house gets broken into by a poor black thief, who holds a knife to the wife's neck and tells the man to drop his weapon, he throws her into the swimming pool and runs off.
Police investigate, a big beefy black guy and a white man. The white man becomes obsessed with the wife, plants drugs into their house and the husband goes to prison. His lawyer sells his house to get him out of prison.
They husband and the white corrupt police have a brutal fight, ending in the husband shooting the police to death.
The wife has a big fluffy cat and the white cop shoots the black cop and some young black guy called Leon.
Also, the white police tracks down the poor black thief in a poor area and tries to make the husband kill or beat the thief, but the husband refuses and gets mad at the white cop. The husband then sees this same black thief in prison.
What's the name of this movie? I want to watch it again 😂

In honor of Nicole Kidman turning 52 years old today, what is your favorite role that she has played in a film?
My favorite role of hers is Alice Harford in Eyes Wide Shut (1999). It was hard for me to choose my favorite since so many of her performances are simply phenomenal, but her character in EWS is so complex, and I can’t picture anyone else portraying Alice but her. Yet I feel as though her performance in this film is often overlooked, not to mention her character per se is underestimated.

So I've been thinking about Greek Mythology and which myths would be best adapted to film
I personally believe Hercules could be an incredibly emotional, heartbreaking, and tragic film. I know its one of the most popular myths ever but not too many people know the true myth, they mostly only know about the labors, the Nemean Lion, and the Hydra. I think given it has people who are passionate and really care about the source material, an R rated, more gritty, true-to-myth adaptation of Hercules would be an amazing film. I'd try to write it myself but I'm nowhere near talented enough to attempt that lol.

All the movies I missed out on
(This isnt really recommending a movie but it's more of asking for reccomendations so if this post isnt allowed please just tell me and it'll be gone xD)
For a good majority of my life, I wasnt allowed to watch a movie if my parents hadn't already seen it, which led to me missing out on a lot of movies not only because they didnt see it, but because they had no interest in seeing it.
I decided to kinda wanted to spend time (even if it takes months or years) to catch up on what I missed and I'd love some suggestions.
The big 3(ish) I'm want to tackle is the all the Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings movies (yes I have never seen a single one of any of those)
I literally barely started this list but some of the ones I have on it are: Big, Poltergeist, The breakfast club, 10 things I hate about you, Beetle juice, Fight club, Pretty in pink, Interview with a vampire, Coming to america, Jurassic park, Indiana jones, Roman holiday, Footloose, The matrix, Pretty woman, Dirty dancing, The great Gatsby, Catch me if you can, The thing, Sixteen candles, Ferris bueller's day off, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, Back to the future trilogy, Terminator , Ghost, Bladerunner, The rocky horror picture show, West side story
I know I missing out on so so much though, and most of these are from the 80's and 90's because I've heard a lot of them from my parents talking about them to hearing aunts and uncles and such talk about them.
I'm open to literally any genre from any year (I really like musicals too so please include those!)

Movies with Famously Crazy Productions?
Rewatched Apocalypse Now last night, and I enjoyed it even more the second time. What a great and impressive film. I might watch the Redux Version next; however, I've heard mixed reviews on it. But, after finishing it I was doing some reading and holy cow this production was a mess.
From production originally scheduled to take 6 weeks but taking 16 months, to Brando showing up late, overweight, often drunk, and having read neither the script nor Heart of Darkness, to Martin Sheen having a heart attack on set, drug use rampant among cast and crew (Dennis Hopper getting a super young Laurence Fishburne addicted to heroin??), the list can go on and on. It truly is amazing that this film ever got completed with what is known about the production and without Coppola's passion (and personal funding) for the project it certainly doesn't get made and we never get this classic.
What are some other examples of insane productions/on set stories?

Was the people fainting at Raw (2016) a hoax?
I heard about this so I decided to finally watch it last night... The movie wasn't exactly Toy Story but I can't imagine anyone actually fainting during watching it, nevermind a whole group of people at a Film Festival. I imagine people who attend Film Festivals has at least watched one horror movie in their life? I'm not saying that it's impossible people found the movie gross and had to walk out, or even that some may have vomited... but I don't know, the reason everyone found out about this movie it seems is because of the supposed incident. Was it a hoax put on by the marketing for the film, or did people actually faint?

Looking for “group planning” scenes in movies (battles, attacks, heists, doctors, crime shows, etc)
(Preemptively stating that I’m not sure if this is the appropriate subreddit for this, if you know a better place I should post please let me know.)
As part of a project I’m looking for scenes in film and TV where some kind of big group planning or strategizing is taking place. Like soldiers huddled around a table planning a battle, or a team strategizing a bank heist etc. Or even a group of detectives working together around a crime wall to figure out where a criminal might be heading next. Any genre is OK although I think sci-fi/fantasy is more likely to have these kinds of scenes.
Some examples:
- Game is Thrones S8: Battle of Winterfell attack planning around the big map, ft. Jon Snow and others
- Star Wars episode 4: using the Holoprojector to plan the attack on the Death Star. Pretty sure Star Wars has many more examples of battle planning that I just can’t think of?
- The Expanse (TV show): strategizing around the 3D data display
- Oceans 11 scene where George Clooney is walking everyone through the heist
- Inception features a scene where the whole crew are planning in the warehouse, all centered around the 3D model of the building on the table
- I’m sure Lord of the Rings and/or The Hobbit has got to have one scene featuring a battle plan or something, but for the life of me I can’t remember one.
Any help would be appreciated. If you have links to clips, even better. Thanks!

Endgame passing up Avatar still isn't as impressive as the records Avatar set
I'm not bashing the movie or the franchise. And the speed with which it attained the numbers are impressive. But, Avatar was a standalone film (at the time) and Endgame is the culmination of a decade and 22 films. Both are significant in their own right.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong

Movies To Watch Before Turning 30?
Hey there!
I’m a 21 year old with a sudden interest in watching lots of films.
I never used to watch many films but recently I feel like I need to and want to experience so much more.
Got 9 years til I’m 30 so plenty of time to catch up on what I’ve been missing out on!
I’m looking for pretty much anything and everything: action, fantasy, sci-fi, Romance, comedy, kids etc....
The only genre I’m not comfortable with is horror and most likely won’t watch it regardless of how amazing the film is, sad films are also a bit meh but maybe I need to cry more anyway.

Are there examples of movies that had significant cultural impact despite not being popular or good?
The other day, my brother mentioned that travelling to a particular place was on his "bucket list". It got me thinking about how weird it is that the term has become so ubiquitous despite the fact that I can't name a single person I know who has seen the movie "The Bucket List".
It has a 42 on Metacritic and was the 31st highest grossing film of 2007. Hardly anyone ever talks about the movie any more, but people talk about having things on their "bucket list" all the time, and there are even articles from major outlets mentioning them occasionally.
Are there other films like that, having a notable cultural impact without the film itself being especially significant or successful?

My suicidal brother in law wants his handgun back
My brother in law has been suicidal (he battles depression and anxiety, but has publicly threatened suicide as a means to manipulate his mother, as well as what I believe to be actual threats of suicide and cries for help on social media), and he wants his handgun back. His father (my husband’s father) died last year and left the gun to BIL in his will. We had the gun and kept it in a gun safe, and BIL keeps asking for it. When he randomly asks for the gun (he’s done this 3 or 4 times in the last year) he’s usually in a manic state, verbally aggressive and threatening, and clearly not someone we’d feel comfortable handing a gun over to. I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to give him the gun and him kill himself, but I also understand that the gun being willed to him is something sentimental. I don’t know what to do.

Is global warming avoidable??
So the hype around global warming really has risen in the past few years (in my opinion that is anyway) and we're given all these bizarre statistics stating how we're all finished by like 2050 and some even saying earlier
From my childhood onwards the only changes I've seen in my country's approach towards this disaster is the integration of electrical and hybrid vehicles which honestly could have a better job done at it
Time and time again in school I've been shown documentaries, some old and some new, about climate change and it's effects and expected outcomes but they use the term "if we don't change" often, I don't see much change coming into place
Many countries here in the EU are implicating many carbon taxes but do these even help, I doubt enough will stop using said things that are being taxed and it's not like the can pay the world to stay the same. The EU have been putting a lot of work into the case at the moment but what's the EU's reduction in carbon output compared to ongoing carbon output of the likes of America and Asia??
The Amazon rain forest's trees are still being depleted for wood, the deserts are growing in Africa and all the ice caps are still melting and at alarming rates
Is it too late to turn the tide or should Hollywood simply hurry up with the next biggest blockbuster, the sequel to "2012", "2050"??

Help: Name that movie
In a conversation today, I was reminded of an old movie, which is probably no newer than 1990. It was set in a place that looked post-apocalyptic and the most precious resource was fresh water, so you ended up with people carrying around these devices (my memory wants them to be cubes), where if someone died (or was killed with one of these), the user could suck all of the water out of the body for their own use (or sale) and leave the dry remnants behind.

Watched the clockwork orange yesterday. Let’s have a discussion about this classic.
yes, the movie is brutal. Some of the scenes are extremely hard to watch. But it was a fantastic movie.
The visuals of the movie were astounding. The sets, the way people dressed, the feel of the world, all fantastic.
The soundtrack was amazing. I have the main theme stuck in my head at the beginning of the movie.
This movie did what I love about a small amount of movies: a sick and brutal ending. I love leaving the movie theaters unsatisfied and with a crazy ending I’ll think about for days.
What are your thoughts on the movie?

I seriously believe "The Descendants" is the best film George Clooney ever made.
In case you haven't seen it, The Descendants is a film about one of the last heirs of Hawaiian royalty as he navigates not only being coerced into selling his ancestral land by his broke cousins, but also the fact he needs to come to terms with the fact he needs to switch off his wife's life support after she is rendered brain-dead in a motorboat accident. This issue is only made worse when his estranged daughter informs him that his wife was cheating on him.
Forget his performances in E.R. or the Ocean's Eleven series - this is easily the finest work George Clooney has ever made. A man who is slowly losing everything he knows is normal and is trying desperately to try and make sense of it all, somehow still clinging to hope.
If you haven't seen it before, I highly recommend you check it out. The movie won the Oscar for "Best Adapted Screenplay" and two Golden Globes, one for "Best Movie - Drama" and another for "Best Actor - Drama" for Clooney, an accomplishment I wholeheartedly endorse

Samuel L. Jackson will have played Nick Fury in Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home (with second top billing in two of those).

What is this survival film called?
First of all, sorry for the readability of the post, I'm not a native English speaker. I watched this movie when I was a kid and it never left my mind. It was clearly a survival film: the protagonists find themselves lost in the desert after a plane wreck. They have with them a plentiful of gallons of water and food scavenged from the plane. They build a base (during the scene some music plays) and eventually one of the survivors (a nerdy guy) reveals that he's an engineer of some sorts and can build planes, and so they start building with him as the leader of the project. After a while, they found that an unusual amount of water was missing and they try to find a culprit. The plane guy confesses saying that he kept working at night and so drank more water than the other survivors. After the plane is finished, the plane guy reveals that he's not actually an engineer but a plane hobbyist who builds model planes. He justifies himself by saying that the structure of a model plane is similar to a real one. The plane that they built works but they get shot at by some people (military??). After some scenes with explosions, they escape successfully.

Is there cream cheese that actually tastes like cheese?
It would just be so much easier in the mornings if didn't have to work so hard on my cheese sandwiches. Having it creamified would also keep them from falling apart.
Is this seriously not a thing? They can creamify cheese but haven't managed to find a way to retain the taste. Ridiculous!

In BOTW, the Thunderblight Ganon was made to be the hardest one to beat. It’s supposed to make you feel very weak, because it’s so fast (like Link in a flurry rush), uses elemental powers (like a thunderblade or shock arrows), and uses lightning (like Link with Urbosa’s Fury). Just a random thought.

Is there any great, philosophical, films about alien, alien civilization, or First Contact?
I recently read a book about the Fermi Paradox, and I was wondering if there are any films about a similar subject. I am interested in the idea of first contact and how humans and the aliens would interact with each other. Some kind of existential exploration of civilization and mankind's place in the universe is what I am looking for. Something in the same vein as Arrival or District 9 (Both are films that I have seen). Do you have any recommendations?

Is there a silent movie about space like Interstellar?
I would like to watch a movie that is like Interstellar but with no dialogue at all, without even humans in it, but rather, for example, a movie that follows a spaceship on a journey to magnificent awe-inspiring new planets, showing discoveries and space anomalies. Like a really chill movie that gives an existential crisis but a nihilistic calming one. I hope this makes sense
