I’ve just stopped watching the film version at like the 1hr mark for a few mins to attempt to rationalise my thoughts. It’s ironic given the story’s premise and the joie de vivre that infuses the film, but I’m having trouble overcoming my prejudices. The age difference is such an integral part of the plot, and the actor who plays Elio looks pretty young.
I know that I’m being obtuse and close minded. It’s really dumb of me to focus on this element in such a light when there’s so much to love about it. It’s a beautiful and heartfelt exploration of identity, desire and love, and yet I can’t tear myself away from thinking about the fact that Elio is 17. It’s kind of pathetic lol.
Idk, I was just wondering what random internet strangers think about it.
