Is The Void (2017) any good?
So, I was casually browsing VUDU, and I came across a movie titled, "The Void", and I was interested. The mention of Lovecraftian mythology was enough to pique my interest, and it also says it's in the same vein as John Carpenter's filmography. I loved, "The Thing" and if it's in the same vein as that, it must be good, right? What movies is it like and how good is it, really?

I don't know to appreciate the movies(the artistic part). How can I enjoy a movie to the fullest ??
I watch a lot of movies but recently this thought came across my mind that I watch just for sake of fun and i don't appreciate the effort put into it in the form of cinematography, music, direction and other art. For example,la la land was just a simple movie for me,i couldnt appreciate the musical quality it has... The Godfather is also a nice movie but i neglect the directional beauty...I found Dunkirk below average.......The cinematography part of the movies also cant make much impression on me... However, dialogues and story are the part I think I understand well......
I want to enjoy the movie overall... Can these qualities be learnt?? Do anyone of you feel the same ???

"Were they watching cartoons?"
So I just watched The Incredibles 2 and when I walked out of theathers, this person look to her boyfriend and said with a condescending tone "Were they watching cartoons?" then laughed as if we, mostly adults emptying the theater room, were supposed to be ashamed.
Really? I mean, I get why someome who never seen a movie before might still hold the belief that animation is a lesser form of film, but someone in the theater, who probably knows about Lion King and other great movies that happen to be animated, to say that, it seems quite... Dumb. She was somewhat young as well, so I'm guessing she grew up with modern CGI animation. Odd isn't it?
It just struck me as weird, particularly because she was going in to watch Jurassic World 2, which I thought was particularly dumb and child-like in the worst possible way, as if the script was written by children themselves, despite being live action and PG-13... The animation I saw was very good and smart, with loads to say about philosophy and society and what not, even though it was just a disney cartoon.
Hopefully, that dumbass will see a good animation by accident some day.

Unbreakable (dir. M. Night Shyamalan, 2000) remains one of the best superhero films of all time.
And now having a sequel in Split, and an upcoming closing chapter with Glass, it can become a part of the best superhero trilogy of all times too, me thinks, and is ripe for another re-evaluation by the audience that largely forgot about it.
A last night re-watch reinvigorated my interest in Glass even more than Bruce Willis' Dunn cameo in Split did a couple of years ago. Unbreakable remains a wholly unique take on a comic book film for several reasons.
Unlike the majority of recent superhero films that attempted to transplant their comic book roots onto ostensibly more mature and/or grounded territory Unbreakable seems to be the only one devoted to not deconstruction of the superhero trope but instead its careful, humanist even, reconstruction.
Where films like Watchmen, BvS, Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy and even some of the MCU efforts, attempt to work with the established mythos and then break it down so that it works in a more realistic, historical or even political manner, Shyamalan's film understands the iconography of the genre and builds towards it steadily, but at the same time doesn’t try to explain why the world needs its heroes or how it deals with their existence. Rather than attempt to fit their reluctant larger than life, impossible characters into a world that the audience feels familiar with- be that through Civil War's assemblage of international heads of state or Batman v Superman's headline obsessed TV talking heads, Unbreakable recognizes that they were always out there in plain sight, conflicted yes but human and it puts this humanism at the centre of its story. Where the core of the comic book based movies lends itself to a post-modernist debate and even analysis based on their politics, social context and gender stance, Shyamalan's film is open to philosophical interpretation but is happily devoid of a political subtext- in that sense it is realistic but timeless, not specifically tied to a particular decade and cheerfully beyond it. Not unlike a fable and brilliantly laid out by Samuel Jackson's Elijah, Unbreakable traces the notion of comic books as modern myths and superheroes as a mythological occurrence and it resonates powerfully because it retains the humanity of its hero- Dunn. It tries to bring the myth and the mundane together. The film's respect and affinity towards that form is evident. It is telling that the entry point into this mindset visually and in terms of the story comes from a perspective of a child. Dunn's son becomes the biggest champion of his father's transformation into a literal hero and the validation of his belief is ultimately a culmination of Dunn's arc- as a father/husband and a superhero, both the mundane and the mythological.
In fact the entire film is strongly preoccupied with its characters' point of view and cinematography reflects that on many occasions but the dominant mode of this narrative still resides in the perspective of children. From several skewed angles, flipped images to the entire opening conversation emphasising that particular relation of the film's story to its seemingly infantile source of inspiration. Naturally we have seen comic books seep into mainstream more and more prominently in the last decade or so with the onslaught of MCU films but just before Bryan Singer's X-Men and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man ushered a new benchmark for comic book movies' critical and financial recognition Unbreakable was effectively dealing with a largely dismissed and even niche source material. The film as a whole seems to validate admiration for comic books and their logic and is in that sense an example of pure fan service. Devoid of cynicism and never knowingly winking at its audience perhaps it does so better than any of the recent Box Office hits. In one of its early scenes it even betrays its twist ending to the viewers, yet again aligning itself with the comic book narratives it is based on, as explained by Elijah's mother.
Not unlike Nolan's accomplished take on Batman, Unbreakable is also able to operate around bigger (or smaller) themes, injecting its superhero flavour into a fairly well rounded set of circumstances. Whereas in The Dark Knight trilogy, the three films (to various extent) were able to work as urban crime thrillers, Shyamalan's work puts at its core a set of human relations. Marriage, fatherhood and themes of fate, belonging, manichean duality of opposing good and evil, these all exist within the film's world and remain relevant throughout. More typical elements of a superhero film are layered on top of that and never seem to be ostensibly forced.
The iconography of Dunn's character is one of the examples of that mechanic. While there is a more typical costume reveal that occurs later in the film and is emphasised spectacularly by the non-diegetic score and framing, that actual reveal happens much earlier. When Dunn puts on his work uniform, the security embroidery prominently stretched across his back lingers in the frame dramatically. It's at once a typical element of the superhero lore and a utilitarian, mundane symbol.
The film is not without its flaws. The ending and the twist feel almost perfunctory. It revels in manichean determinism and at the same time in all those little moments of domestic bliss and tragedy that render it cynicism free but also abundantly melodramatic. It is at once the most grounded and most romantically grand superhero film but in spite of that (or maybe because of it) also the purest. Split did not feel like a sequel and feels even less like one in the context of the soon to be completed trilogy (when did we ever get a whole film devoted to an origins story of a villain?). It played like a supernatural thriller the way Unbreakable plays like a supernatural drama. The danger now is, with all the components in place, that Glass will indeed feel like a modern superhero film, knowing and disillusioned, ready to play its hand too early and very much like the final act of Signs or The Village- unrestrained and dumb. If Shyamalan pulls it off and the trajectory of the films' three main players remains unpredictable and grounded, Unbreakable will hopefully be remembered as a brilliant beginning to a truly unique superhero trilogy.
Also it's 6 am for me right now and I might be rambling...Apologies.

Superman (1978) vs. Batman (1989)
Superman and Batman both are my super heroes from my childhood. But I'm huge fan of Superman (1978). This movie is my dream movie. I dreamt to be Superman. I see him in my dreams very often. This movie has superb and unique plot. This is my first choice for action and adventure drama movie (old). I'm not a hater of Batman (1989), this is also a great movie but I've no personal feeling attached with this movie. Sorry Batman lovers, I know both the movies are superb but you have to choose only one.

Need help identifying movie! (Spoilers for The Sixth Sense)
So I just finished watching The Sixth Sense for the first time. Great flick. Loved it. At the end, Bruce Willis says to his sleeping wife that he thinks he can go now after realizing that he's dead. And when I saw this, I had a distinct memory of this other movie where, I believe towards the end, the protagonist says goodbye to the ghost who was helping them throughout the movie, and they say something similar like "I have to let you go now." And then the protagonist goes on to finish his quest or whatever to finish the movie. But I can't remember what it is and it's really bugging me! I think it would be a fairly modern movie, something since 2000. But other than that I can't remember much, it's really just a whiff of a memory.
While writing this, Harry Potter 7 part 2 came to mind, but I just watched the clip on youtube and I don't think that's it.
EDIT: Some suggestions in this thread have helped me hone in on the memory. I believe the person is asleep/unconscious, maybe knocked out in the course of a fight. Saying goodbye to the ghost/memory leads them to wake up abruptly.
EDIT 2: Pretty sure its like a dead wife or girlfriend, and the memory of them has been holding the (I'm now pretty sure) male protagonist back.

Anyone else get a chance to see 'Leave No Trace'? Saw it tonight without knowing anything about it and ended up being one of the best movies I've seen this year. [No Spoilers]
Didn't have any plans so I ended up watching Leave No Trace because I thought it was going to be a thriller based on the movie poster and the title, but it's definitely an indie drama, and I don't mean that negatively. I don't feel like I've seen a movie quite like this and it kind of blew me away.
It's currently on limited release, but if it's playing near you, absolutely treat yourself to this film. Don't watch the trailer or read up too much on it. The only thing I knew before hand from doing a quick Google search is that it's currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 94% audience score and it's not hard to see why after watching the movie.
Anyone else get a chance to catch it this weekend?

Hard or Unique Sci-Fi to Watch?
I feel I've seen majority of the good sci-fi movies.
I like hard sci-fi's but anything unique or good is well..good. As long as it's not cliche hollywood sci-fi or aliens come to earth and we kill them by uploading a virus.
Anything grandiose like Contact, Interstellar, or 2001: space odessey; dealing with human transcendence like Titan or Altered States; time travel like Primer, Time Machine, Timecrimes or Predestination; indie like Another Earth or Melancholia; dystopian like Blade Runner or Gattica; odd like Dark City or Jacobs Ladder; exploratory like Prometheus or Martian or Europa Report; existential threats like Sunshine; AI like Ex Machina.
I think you get where I'm coming from.
I'd kill to see a movie where astronauts stumble upon futuristic species with advanced technology like dyson spheres or an ancient race like Kosh from Babylon 5.
It's also about time for a movie about the tech singularity and an omnipotent AI that emerges from that. Haven't seen one like that.
Any recommendations for a movie?

My random interest in the Chungking Mansions led me to watching Chungking Express
What a beautiful movie. I can't believe that it flew over my radar for so long.
I honestly don't want to go on about it like i'm some sort of film critic, other than I want to know if other people got the same impact.
I loved the shots, of course, and the raw dirtiness of it all. I had no idea what I was going into when I watched it, and it ended up being a beautiful story of loneliness x2. I think I may be in love with 90's Faye Wong now.
This is sort of a useless shitpost I guess, but that movie absolutely killed it. New favorite in my book. Let me know your thoughts if you can!

Is it reasonably possible for this to be mold?
Long story short, I'm moving out of an apartment ridden with black mold and I'm really looking forward to forgetting about that problem completely, so I'm a little paranoid about avoiding it in the next one.
I visited a potential new apartment today, and saw a small black-ish stain near a corner that probably wasn't a shadow, so that could be black mold. However, that wasn't in the kitchen or bathroom, and I looked all around the house and didn't find any more. This is a 4th floor in a 15 year old building. Is it reasonably likely that that was actually black mold, despite the age of the building and where it was? ie. would you discard that apartment just in case, considering I loved it other than that? I really don't know how mold growth works, I hope some of you do.
Thank you.

Chest Pains? Help?
A while ago ( maybe around 3 or 4 pm) I fell asleep completely normally and with no issues. When I wake up at around 7 pm the same day (It’s 7:32 I write this) I feel a sharp, ache-like pain directly below my left nipple (my left your right) and almost every time I move it hurts a fuckton. I’ve taken two Advil to try and stop the pain, but I know that it may not work. Nothing else on my body hurts at all, and I had some really small spasms that I don’t seem to be having anymore. Is it weird to go to a public pool alone?
I'm 28 female, don't have any kids and my hubby will be at a golf outing tomorrow. I have lots of yardwork to do but then would love to go lay out by a pool/swim but I'm in a new area and don't know many people. How weird is it to go to a public pool alone? (Think like wave pool- not a private community pool)?
Thanks 😊

Too hot in only one room on second story in socal
So here is the scoop. I live in a 2 bdrm apt con the second of two story's in san diego less than 10 blocks east of beach. Both bedroom are at the back, one on both sides of hallway. My room is unbearably hot, while the other room is perfect. There is an apt on both sides of us as well, if that helps with anything.
I have this weird thought that maybe ,the apt next to my room is growing some diggity dank, and the heat from the lamps is leaking into my room.
If It was the roof, wouldn't both rooms be hot, or at least the whole apt???
I'm stumped. Any ideas???

What's the traditional gift for your pizza guy when he loses a friend?
Some background: my partner and I go to pizza at the same place every Friday. Our server is a HOMIE. We're all on a first name basis, he brings us our regular order without ever needing to check in, he makes us our drinks exactly as we like them, and regularly comps our drinks. When he's having a good night, we'll have some nice chats, and when he's having a bad night, he knows we're a table that'll be chill about slower service.
For a while, we've been thinking about doing something nice for him. But tonight, he seemed particularly off his game, and he let us know that a close friend of his died a couple days ago. We want to do something kind for him, because he is incredibly kind to us always.
Suggestions for something to give someone with whom we have an unusual kind of relationship?

A Pretty Little Liars Movie.
I thought of another plot and the event would take place after The Perferctionist The film opens as a flashback sequence when the girls first met as first graders. Jenna helps Alex and Mary Drake escape from Mona's dollhouse and decide to play one last game called "The Bonus Round." with the Liars. Ali returns to Rosewood from Beacon Hills to take care of the twins with Emily who are now having relationship problems. Spencer is now a CIA along with Toby who are both living in Washington D.C., Aria and her husband Ezra became best selling publishers when their second novel became a hit, and Hannah becomes a recovering alcoholic after a miscarriage with her baby. Spencer returns to Rosewood and reunite with the girls once they started to chatting up they got a text message from Alex and said, "You thought this was over, well think again its just getting started. Welcome to the Bonus Round bitches, A." Mona warns the girls that Alex and Mary have escaped and they are coming for them. Spencer calls the rich family from the UK that raised Alex for quite awhile and learn that she was a problem child. At 8 years old she put a cat in a boiler, pushed a girl down the stairs, and poison a nanny. The family put her back to the orphanage and ran away at 10 years old. The girls just received a new board from Mary and Alex and order them to go on a scavenger hunt on a crime scene in Texas which called the part of the game, "Girls Trips". The Liars travel to Texas and starts following directions to a navigator app. They discovered a large cornfield with two glowing domes the girls enter inside the domes and suddenly a swarm of poisonous bees chased them out along with two black helicopters, but manage to escape. The girls have failed the game, so Alex leak racy photos of her posing as Spencer and send them to the CIA headquarters causing Spencer to be suspended until further notice. Alex send Hannah a blooded baby doll labeled, "Baby Killer" telling Caleb that she accidentally killed their baby by drinking wine and take some pills while being pregnant which angers Caleb that she lied to him about the miscarriage and walked out of the house disgusted. Emily and Ali get into a heated argument about Ali taking the job in Beacon Hills, leaving her and the babies alone. She tells her that she quit the job and wanted to spend the rest of her life with Emily and the twins, soon they started to make up. Alex founds Mona and murdered her for trapping her and Mary in the dollhouse for months. Ezra founds out that Aria had her tubes tied while trying to have kids. Ezra always wanted to be a father, but Aria wasn't ready to become a mother which upset Ezra and walked out of their apartment, Aria tries to run after him, but then Aria got stung by a bee which was still in her underneath her clothes in Texas. She start losing consciousness. Ezra calls the paramedics, but the driver turns out to be Alex and shoots Ezra. He survives in the hospital and tells Spencer, Ali, Emily, and Hannah that Aria been kidnapped by Alex. Hannah and Ali walks out of the hospital and meets Miss Grunwald outside and tells them must stop Alex and Mary and promise to each other to never tell secrets or lie again. Carla kills herself in a car bomb. Ali and Emily got a video message from Mary that she was at their apartment with the babies. The girls ran back to their house and found Emily's mother attacked and the twins were gone who were kidnapped by Mary and Alex. The girls got another text saying, "This is the 'Final' round Liars, if you failed this game the babies and your friend will be sleeping under the daisy. Hope you are ready for this bitches. xoxo -.A." The girls learned that Alex, Mary, Aria, and the babies are at their old high school which the "Final" round takes place at. Once they enter the school at night Emily and Ali go find the twins, Hannah goes find Aria, and Spencer goes confront Alex. Alison and Emily find the twins in swimming room and confront with Mary with twins in her hands with a gun and drops them in to the pool. Emily dives in and saves them and Ali pushed Mary into the pool and fight Ali pools the trigger on the gun and shot Mary leaving her dead in the pool. Hannah finds Aria underground the school called "The Boiler Room" in a Barbie Doll like Box, she tries to free her but the box is crawling with rattlesnakes and spiders she successfully freed her and use vaccine to revive her which was giving to Carla before she died. They are confronted by a sinister and deranged Jenna who wants revenge on the girls who took away her eyes. Fighting off Jenna, Hannah grabs the gun and shoot her in her eye and falls. The girls reunited and Toby has arrived at the school and took the babies out and called law enforcement to the school. Spencer find Alex and said, "I've been waiting for this along time. Come on Spence lets finish this." Then Spencer said, "Game on, bitch." starts to fight each other with computers around them. The girls try to find Spencer and save her from Alex. Then fire started to emerge during the fight. The girls rescue Spencer from Alex. Alex pulled out a gun and start to shoot Spencer but is blocked by Ali who save Spencer from certain death and got shot by the bullet. They found out that Jenna planted bombs in the school and Alex set the timer one. Spencer then push Alex to the giant computer screen and said, "Game over." and got electrocuted to death. The girls quickly ran out before the school blowed up and they manage to escape by the exploding school. Ali who was losing consciousness by the bullet near her heart. Emily tells her that she can't take care of the babies by herself. Before dying Ali tells her, "Tell them that mommy loves you." then she died leaving the girls crying emotional by their friends death. The girls attend Alison funeral and burying. Emily breaks down and said, "She can't go." with tears rolling down her face. Sometime later Spencer reunite with Toby and she willing to be with him again they later kiss. Aria had her tubes untied and her and Ezra are expecting a baby, Hannah and Caleb adopted a baby girl, and Emily is taking care of the twins with the help of her mother. Gotti (2018) is the best mob movie ever made and the best movie of the last 10 years
I am floored. This movie not only accurately portrayed the life of John Gotti, it also had phenomenal acting and writing. Don't get me started on the soundtrack. The rap song used for Gotti's ascent was incredible! I haven't heard anything like that since MC Pesci came out with Wiseguy, a genre defining track. Casino and Goodfellas were not shot nearly as well as gotti, and house of the rising sun was used far better in Gotti than in the Casino finale. One thing I would like to point out is how perfectly cast Gotti's son was. If you watch interviews, the actor who plays him looks just like Gotti jr! Its kind of scary. Towards the end of the movie, they gave Jr. gray hair and used cutting edge makeup to age him, and it is quite remarkable how good a job they did. You almost feel as though it is a documentary. The exposition where Jr. is explaining to his confused lawyer how RICO works was also quite clever, because it allows the audience to understand the nuances of law, and helps the confused lawyer figure out that he is not the legal mind he thought he was. John Travolta is fed line after great line and the other actors look and sound very Italian and like they are from New York. They must have spend years researching their roles! Wow! I thought I was in the mob after being immersed by their performances. Can any cinemaphile really find another mob movie that comes close to this? If he were still alive, I would have thought this was Coppola's swan song. I think the Godfather III is by far his best movie, but even that would take a distant second to Gotti. Lets take a moment to discuss the transitions. The plot moves rapidly along, and what I really like about Gotti is that we see him as boss for 5 minutes, and are not really shown his rule or what specifically caused his downfall. During the five minutes, Travolta delivers some killer scoldings to his underlings and has to let Angelo go. It is an emotional scene and is worth the price of the ticket alone. The rest of Gotti's time as boss and his subsequent arrest and trial is mainly left up to the viewer's imagination, and I was able to imagine scenes as gripping as the ones these wonderful filmmakers showed in the movie already! I'm sorry for gushing, but everyone on this subreddit needs to get to the theater immediately! Lastly, the movie shows the positive impact Gotti had on NY. It wasn't right for them to try him and his son, and the movie makes a solid case for a posthumous acquittal for Teflon Don. Hell, just talk to the people of Queens like the director did. Please see this movie, then thank me later!

Backstabbing for Beginners (2018): Who was Pasha?
Who was the character that Ben Kingsley plays? IMDb lists only Pasha, even tho the film is based upon real life events. (Spoilers)
The film is based upon the eponymous memoirs of Michael Soussan. In 1997, he was a young graduate with the U.N.’s Oil-for-Food Program, the largest humanitarian operation in the organization’s history.
The end of the film states that Pasha is still in exile to avoid prosecution. Where is he exiled and who was he?
I think this is one of Ben Kingsley's best performances since Sexy Beast. He seems a like-able, if (a)moral relativist. Makes me want to go back and watch Pascali's island.

I don’t remember much but it was sci fi and it had a lot of characters who were important to one another. There might have been time travel somewhere in there. I remember a specific character could predict the future with his paintings/drawings and he was shot I think.

When they are taking I have to turn it way up to understand what they are saying, but then all of a sudden it's so fucking loud it messes up my speakers. Searching (Movie 2018)
Just caught a screening for Searching (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7668870/) and was very pleasantly surprised. I understand now why it was so well received at Sundance earlier this year (won an Audience award). I get that the concept can come off as kind of gimmicky, but it really might surprise you. The whole concept and how the movie was shot, which I didn't think I would particularly like was actually very well done. Very solid performances, clever writing, and some great twists at the end made for a thoroughly entertaining watch. Looking forward to catching it again sometime after it releases.

Movies that were overshadowed
I love the movie three o’clock high. It’s a simple eighties high school movie, and I just think it’s a great movie. Sadly not many people know about it. I only heard about from a YouTube comment. It was overshadowed by every John hughues movie that came out around then. What movies do u like that aren’t underrated, just overshadowed by movies in that genre, other movies made by that director, like how goodfellas overshadows after hours, maybe by the actor or just movies that came out around the same time. I’d love to hear your input.

A Ghost Story, or
The one where Rooney Mara eats an entire apple pie.
Plot: A man in a sheet tries to retrieve a piece of paper from a wall.
Jk. Kinda.
This movie just blew me away. I know I’m a bit late to the party, but wow. I’ll admit, the first 20 minutes or so bored me. And that’s saying something because I like artsy, weird movies that could be considered boring. It just seemed a bit pretentious a first and that pie eating scene went on... Forever.
But something clicked and I was just swept up into this poetic trance that the film emanates. It’s just dripping with long, meaningful scenes and beautiful imagery. Haunting and gorgeous and a fantastic soundtrack.
And the dialogue between the two ghosts... just... damn.
“I don’t think they’re coming back.” Vanishes.
And, “I don’t remember.”
That really got me.
What did y’all think of the movie?
And what do you all think the note said? Or are we not supposed to know.
And what about when he falls off the building in the future and ends up in the past? I thought that was interesting, because time was constantly moving forward up until that point.
And do y’all think, if he hadn’t retrieved the note at the end, more and more sheeted ghosts would keep showing up?
Anyways, amazing movie, and I wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

Has a dog ever survived a horror movie?
Seriously, I've seen quite a few horror movies throughout my life and I don't think a single dog lived through to the end.
They are usually the first ones to go to show that there are real stakes in the story. But if that isn't enough, sometimes they are the only ones to go (i.e. Conjuring, Babadook)
So I am here to ask, have any lived to celebrate alongside our heroes? And I'm asking for actual horror movies here, no Silence of the Lambs bs with Precious.

Just got to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes and wow, while I thought this movie was amazing, I really shouldn't have read IMDB plot summary for it.
It goes "At the story's heart is Caesar (Andy Serkis), a chimpanzee who gains human-like intelligence and emotions from an experimental drug. Raised like a child by the drug's creator, Will Rodman (James Franco) and a primatologist Caroline Aranha (Freida Pinto), Caesar ultimately finds himself taken from the humans he loves and imprisoned in an ape sanctuary in San Bruno. Seeking justice for his fellow inmates, Caesar gives the fellow apes the same drug that he inherited. He then assembles a simian army and escapes the sanctuary - putting man and ape on a collision course that could change the planet forever. Written by 20th Century Fox"
Are you for real? This is like spoiling the whole movie from the very beginning up to the final scene. This is cheap.
Also, can't wait to get my hands on the Dawn in 4k HDR, I have no idea why I waited so long to watch it. This movie blew me away, great blend of action, suspense, emotions and thriller. What a ride.

The solution to our problem with antibiotic resistant bacteria could be injection of the most deadly creature on the planet
Bacteriophages are a creature that specially kill certain bacteria, and do it efficiently, killing 40% of ocean bacteria everyday, these things can’t kill human cells though, so injecting ourselves with these can kill bad bacteria, but if bacteria became immune to bacteriophages, it would give up its immunity to antibiotics

So why do people like pretending that Matrix 2 and 3 don't exist?
I just finished binging the trilogy again for the dozenth time and I still enjoy each one. Sure the sequels aren't nearly as good as the first one, but the second one is an all around entertaining film that adds neat things to the lore, has a solid story, and features one of the greatest car chase scenes of all time.
The third is definitely the weakest entry and the first hour is fairly slow and boring, but the climax with the battle of Zion and Neo vs Agent Smith definitely makes up for it and concludes the story in a more than satisfactory way. I just never understood the disdain people have for these sequels, they're no where near as bad as what Phantom Menace/AoTC are.

2019 will be an amazing year for film and television.
Next year is shaping to be one of the best in terms of film. We have Avengers 4, Scorsese's Irishman, Tarantino's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, M. Night's Glass, It: Chapter 2, MCU's first female superhero movie Captain Marvel, not to mention Disney's releases such as the live action Lion King and Toy Story 4. We also got that Hellboy reboot and DC's Shazam and Wonder Woman 1984.
Then in television, we have the final seaosn of Game of Thrones which I believe will be revolutionary in terms of tv storytelling, we have the 4th season of Mr. Robot, hopefully the final season of The Walking Dead, and many more television shows that will hopefully hook audiences to the television screen
2019 will definitely get theater attendance through the roof and I'm all here for it and I hope everyone reading this post will too. American cinema is patriotically alive and Americans should be supporting the hell out of it.
Edit: How could I forget Star Wars episode 9

When did acting become “real”
If you take a look at older movies and tv shows you see the way people act feels “forced”.
Not that it was wrong in anyway, that was just the norm. Expressions and body movements were over the top to really convey emotion. Even the way they spoke was a bit exaggerated.
Obviously the switch to the more “realistic” way of portraying a character didn’t happen instantly but gradually over the decades.
But I’m sure there are a handful of movies that had a noticeable “switch”. I read somewhere citizen kane did such a thing, but I’ve never seen the movIe to compare.
Any thought?

With all the success they've had with the Jurassic Park series, I'm surprised Universal hasn't tried anything with Jaws
Like the title suggests. The last two Jurassic Park movies have been a boon for Universal, and in this era of sequels and spin-offs I'm just kind of surprised they haven't tried anything with the Jaws franchise. Adjusted for inflation Jaws is the 7th-highest grossing movie of all time, and even Jaws 2 adjusts to over $300 million domestic. The last two sequels really torpedoed the franchise, but it's been over 30 years since the last one and imo there's a lot worse spin-offs and sequels of older movies getting the green light these days. Maybe the whole Jaws idea is a little too kitsch for today's market. Anyone else have any other thoughts?

I would love if Nicolas Winding Refn directed the live-action AKIRA
He may not seem like an obvious choice because he hasn't done sci-fi, but I'm thinking he might be the only director that could pull off a decent live-action version of Akira that has been kicked around for years. I'm basing this specifically on "Drive" and "Only God Forgives". Something about his style and the look of those movies just seems like a fit for an adaptation of the manga/anime. Anybody else feeling it??

Horror movie tropes across the world
Hey all,
I'm working on a purely for fun/self-use project right now involved with horror movie tropes/cliches from non-American markets. I tried doing some searching online, but did not find exactly what I was looking for, so I hoped some international movie fans may be able to help me out.
What I'm looking for is what would, say, Cabin in the Woods look like in Asian and South American countries? In the movie, we see some famous American tropes, such as the typical character types (athlete, virgin, scholar, whore, and fool), the idea of basements being scary, jump scares, etc. What are similar cliched concepts and ideas in Asia and South America? I have seen some movies from these regions, but not enough to necessarily pick out specific aspects.
Thank you,

Also, Anthony Hopkins probably called in his voiceover from his bedroom.

Where to get Coco 4k delivered to the UK?
Hello there
I'm looking to get Coco (2017) on 4k UHD. I'm in the UK, and for some reason Europe only sell the DvD and Blu Ray. Does anyone have any safe and trusty website where I could get it delivered from the USA to the UK? I would buy it off of Amazon, but at the moment they don't have the 4k in stock. I'd appreciate any help on this matter.
Cheers.

Looking for a video of like 40 asians in a slapping brawl
The video is of like 40 Indians or Pakistanis or something like that who are all wearing the same outfit. I think the outfit was khakis a dark brown leather belt, and like a tan button up Hawaiian shirt. Any way they are out in a field or on the street or maybe in a park and they are all running around swatting the shit out of eachother with open hands. It was unclear to me what the fuck was going on when I first saw it and I don't know what key words I should type to fight it but it is an absolutely nuts video. Its absolutely chaos and beautiful to watch.
Its reminds me of those russian street fighting/ soccer hoolligan gang fights. example:http://deturl.com/play.asp?v=8VyhEDL4tjI except they are all wearing the same uniform and its a free for all.... So actually its not the same as the video I just posted at all. but the point is is that its a crazy slap fest

Bad movies where the actors are obviously having fun
Are there any movies that, while bad, it's obvious the actors are having fun making it?
Most bad musicals would count. Mamma Mia is probably the textbook example of this.
Also, as weird and nonsensical as Boss Baby was, Alec Baldwin sounded like he was having a blast doing it. You can honestly see he enjoyed making it just in the clips of him recording his lines:

Low quality movie theory connecting 12 Monkeys and Fight Club.
The narrator from Fight Club is Jason Cole's son from 12 Monkeys. He would regularly visit his father in the mental insitution, but his father neglected him, so the Narrator bonded with Brad Pitt's character. Due to frequently being surrounded by such an environment and genetic predisposition, he develops schitzophrenia/insomnia, and creates a platonic self-image; Tyler Durden.
EDIT: Note that Brad Pitt's character in 12 monkeys clearly has daddy issues, which would be something that our infant Narrator could identify himself with if this theory made any sense at all...

The only two movies I can remember crying from are La La Land and About Time. Are there any other movies along these lines that can make you cry
I love a good cry but it's extremely rare that I get emotional. Most movies (and people for that instance) have very little emotional effect on me. What movies, along the lines of these, have made you cry or you think will make me cry.
Thanks everyone, appreciate it
so i guess i need 300 words in order to post this to incite a meaningful discussion, which I personally think is utter bullshit because it really feels like a majority of these posts, yes even text posts, offer little to no meaningful context and most of the posts, including the popular ones, dont fucking cause insight. In fact, most of the posts in this sub (all of the popular ones) are just movie title announcments or some celebrity thinking about acting in a new movie. fuck you. none of this shit is insiteful and i dont want to have to type out shit for an extra 20 min just to find a good crying movie. So uhh r/movies ... uhh..ummm uhhh.. .go fuck youself?????

Went to a nearly sold out screening, but a lot of the seats were empty even a bit into the movie. Is this common?
It was Incredibles 2, which seems to be doing well with audiences and critics even though Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom seems to have taken a chunk out of its business. Anyway, since I had to sit in front to have a seat at all, I decided to look behind me because I don't see audiences watching movies from that Amelie angle much. I think maybe two-thirds of the seats were occupied. Looked again later, still looked like a bunch were still empty.
I'm not saying this is some conspiracy by Disney or something and I guess stuff can happen to prevent a family from going, but I wouldn't think it would be anywhere that many.

Could you please help me identify a movie?
I hope I'm posting this in the right subreddit. This isn't exactly r/tipofmytongue material, because I have something better than a text description: I have an entire scene from the movie. Well, a short video, only a couple of minutes long. It begins with a truck driving on a muddy road under rain, and there are two people in the truck: the driver and his passenger, a boy in a yellow jacket. Judging by his map, he's headed somewhere to Romney Marsh. This boy is then constantly chased by a mysterious figure in a black robe, and this figure eventually turns out to be a ghost or something like that.
There it is. The channel owner doesn't want to communicate, even though I'm not the only wondering what the movie is, so I hope someone here can solve this mistery. Also, I'd appreciate if you pointed me at the correct subreddit, should this question be inappropriate here.

Paul Walker's Best Movie
Paul Walker is well known for Fast & Furious Movie series but instead of this action movie series there is many best movies Paul walker had worked in. Joy Ride, Into the Blue, Eight Below, Vehicle 19, Timeline, The Lazarus Project, Noel and many more. I'm a fast fan of him. He owns a innocent look in his every movie. When Paul Walker tragically died in a car accident on November 30, 2013 it was really a horrible news for me. but I still love his acting. and love to watch his movies time to time. Tonight I'm going to watch his movie Pawnshop Chronicles.

Looking for recommendations for light/simple/fun movies to kill time while housesitting. They don't need to actually be good.
I'm house/dog sitting at my parents' for 6 days starting next Wednesday. To avoid getting into too much unnecessary detail, I generally end up being in the house almost all day every day, and it can get painfully boring. I find that what helps pass the time the most are simple, fun, usually shitty movies. I have plenty of movies in my physical and digital libraries, but most of them are good films and for some reason when I'm trying to pass the time, 'films' generally don't cut the mustard. This past trip these are a few of the movies that seemed to help:
- Blockers
- Rampage
- Bad Moms + Bad Moms Christmas
- Kick Ass (doesn't really fit the list because it's amazing)
- American Vandal (same explanation as Kick Ass)
- Game Night
Basically looking for stuff that's fun and passes the time but I don't really need to pay close attention to and I can pause to get up and walk away without killing the viewing experience. Any help would be much appreciated because I need to create a backlog for this next stint.

I Almost want to say the villian was bald ?

Has anyone thought of coming up with a website or alert system that notifies people when classic movies are back in theaters?
The Godfather, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Goodfellas, Saving Private Ryan, Alien, Gladiator, The Shining, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Forest Gump, etc. are all movies I would have killed to see in theaters.
Fandango has a somewhat adequate alert system in regards to this but it only alerts you when movies are playing within like 10 miles of your zip code.
