But I'm in a situation where I can't really make decisions for myself, either because I feel bad saying no or responding negatively or because I feel obligated to do this or that because of the other person's position in my life. Pretty much in short, every day feels the same, I never can really do anything for myself or others without there being a problem or someone or something interfering, I drink more now, not only because I enjoy it but it helps me momentarily forget the headache, the constant pain in my legs, and the fact that my life isn't in my own hands anymore. Sorry this is so long and kinda stupid, but does anyone else understand this feeling and any sage advice is welcome

Question about winning radio station concert tickets and backstage.
I won tickets and soundcheck to a concert through my local radio station. When I went to pick up my tickets, they told me I'd get an email with the soundcheck info as well. When I got the email I found out I won meet and greet passes too! I'm super excited but I'm wondering if my friend will be able to come with me? I won 2 tickets so I'm assuming 2 meet and greet/soundcheck passes but it doesn't say anything like "you and a friend" it just says where to go to get the pass. Would they give away a pair of tickets and then just one soundcheck pass in the same prize?

Transition or become monk?
I have a very unusual scenario and I really need unbiased advice from strangers to help me figure it out. For the past 5 years (now 20) I have been seriously contemplating changing my gender. I feel as though I was meant to be a women. I have basically had gender dysphoria all my life and don’t feel comfortable on my own skin... I feel as though to be myself and to continue my life in society I need to transition and become a women.
However, recently I have become very interested in Buddhism and have started to feel a calling towards monastic life. I have researched heavily and feel that this conflicts with a gender transition. I feel that becoming a monk will help me to realise that there is more to life than my self and my gender identity and that I won’t feel these same pressures once I isolate myself from society.
I can’t really do both as to feel confident as a women I will need to go through many surgeries to fit into society and get myself into more debt, meanwhile, if I become a monk I can be debt free... which is a requirement for most of not all monasteries. I also can’t just try out becoming a monk for a while and see what I feel as that would require you to shave your head in ordination... and I have been growing out my hair for 2 years... so if I make the decision to be ordained i will have to be certain.
I know this is quite a strange predicament but would love any advice. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Im late 20s. None of this stuff interests me but it regularly clogs r/all and r/popular with 50k upvotes within minutes of being posted.
I liked star wars as a kid. But now seeing people rabid about upvoting a purple cartoon gorilla or poorly written fanfiction for a four decade old story about old men fighting with sticks seems odd to me.
Is it real? I'm unsure where the karma farming bots are being sold off to. To be clear if these are your interests I'm not trying to invalidate them I just don't think specific only to reddit there is a massive underlying base of rabid fans for this kind of material.

Why do airlines board people from front to back? I wonder this everytime I fly. It makes zero sense to me. All the first rows are then struggling to get stuff stowed and sit down while the back rows are getting on and having to wait, slowing down the whole process.

What can cause headaches?
I have been to the doctor over this. My head scan was normal. My blood work was normal other than low Potassium (K).
My eye doctor said my eyes were fine and nothing he found would suggest headaches. I have taken migraine meds, but even those did not help the headaches. I have been told migraines arent always treatable.
Sometimes I go a few days without headaches and other days I get them daily. I don't always feel stressed when I get them. Sometimes I just sit around and get a headache, while others I am doing a task.
I have my teeth fixed, minus some final bite adjustments, so there are no more aches in that department.

Do border patrol agents care about hippies?
Hippies is the best term i could come up with but basically me and some friends have been going out to the desert around the mexican american border and smoking weed and just enjoying the scenery. There are TONS of border patrol over there just parked or drive aroumd looking for illegal immigrants crossing.
So i can see why they get sucpicous when they see us parked in the middle of now where just chilling. Theyve come up to us several times and we just have normal conversations with them and then they eventually just let us go and let us be cause they can tell were harmless. Theyve actually memorized our car and when ever they see us coming, most of the agents dont even bother us anymore.
My question is i sometimes think that they can obviously see that were high as fuck. Yet at the same time i dont think they care that much. I feel like were just not what there looking for so they couldnt care less of what we were doing. Plus we dont look in any way mexican or know any spanish so they dismiss us pretty quickly.
Does anyone have any experiemce with something like this? I feel like if it was a cop it would ne different but i dont know.

Just sent a text to a girl I used to hook up with before she got back with her ex because I just saw her on bumble.
Hit send on the iMessage, it said "not delivered" in red under the blue iMessage then immediately sent as text message.
Is that indication of being blocked? Or is that number just no longer active? Haven't texted her in close to a year.

Is there a movie that shows immortality in a positive light?
In most media, immortality is shown as an inherently negative thing that is not worth striving for (for example, most vampire movies where the protagonist is a vampire himself/herself). While I do agree with all the criticisms of it, I would like to see if there is any movie (or any other form of media) that shows it in a positive way? I don't know if that is possible, but I would still like to see if there was even an attempt.

The One, considered trash by critics and mediocre by fans, had one of the most nonsensical and best endings for an Action Movie of all-time
For those who haven't seen it, a brief summarization...
Jet Li plays a killer hunting down versions of himself in multiple dimensions to murder them and obtain godlike power, while being chased by Delroy Lindo and Jason Statham; who surprisingly performs no hand-to-hand fighting in the film.
The build to the climax goes in typical fair. After killing the wife of Gabe Law (Good Jet Li), Lawless (Evil Jet Li) is hunted down at a factory where the final battle takes place while Jason Statham finds a way to transport Lawless back for incarceration. Both Laws end up transported, and after the "Which One is Which" Trope, Lawless is captured.
But the ending is where it shines. After being told Gabe would be sent back to his dimension, Statham protests; stating that his wife is dead and he'd be a wanted man due to Lawless going Modded GTA on his world. So instead, they actually send him back in time to when he witnessed a dog in an accident. Taking him to a conveniently nearby vet, he spots the doctor inside as his once and future wife, and realizes that he gets to relive his life with her all over again. Meanwhile, Lawless is sent to a Prison Dimension, where Jet Li possibly delivers his most badass line of his cinema history ("I am NOBODY'S bitch! You...are mine!") and fights a near-unending legion of prisoners on top of a pyramid as the camera zooms out and the most appropriate Papa Roach song plays the movie out.
It may have borrowed elements and been nonsensical, but it knew how to go out on a High and Epic note.

Who should be the next villain in Mission: Impossible?
Spoilers, duh.
Henry Cavill was a great villain, I think he’s the best in the franchise after Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
I would like to see, I know, wishful thinking, Brad Pitt, it’s not impossible, just unlikely. Or Colin Farrell, a more realistic option.
I just hope they don’t bring Lane back, he was ok in Fallout, but he’s definitely done.

The NeverEnding Story (1984)
I can't be the only one here that loves this movie. Atreyu, Falcor, the Nothing, the Sphinx gate...
I think it's one of the better movies that came out in the 80's, but doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Watched it as a kid and enjoyed the outlandish creatures and lasers. Watched it as an adult and still love the creatures and the story.

I think about "Batman Forever" way too much when it's summer.
I'm almost ashamed to say it, but I think this movie is as close to a Citizen Kane-esque red sled as I'm going to get...OK, not really.
But every freaking summer, this movie keeps popping into my head. In part, it's because I'm just excessively nostalgic. I find myself becoming wistful about the summer from my childhood when I was anticipating this movie to the point of delirium. I was obviously a Batman fan, but I was also a huge Jim Carrey fan, so the prospect of him playing the Riddler was just ridiculously exciting and it was like my day to day existence became 80% Batman Forever hype.
Chris O'Donnell as Robin may seem like whatever at this point, but it was also legitimately awesome back then. It's kind of crazy to think back on that now, as no one ever talks about O'Donnell's portrayal of Robin (it's pretty decent, I think), but it was an event if you were a certain age and you were familiar with the character. And Carrey's performance is still top-tier as far as comic book movies are concerned.
Looking at the poster for Batman Forever in 95 felt like you were looking at the most cutting edge, modern thing on the planet. It was like the particular shade of green on Riddler's suit somehow activated a new category of emotion.

What movie kisses should’ve happened?
Just lying in bed lazily, thinking about characters in movies that totally should’ve kissed but never did. What are y’alls thoughts?
One that immediately came to mind was the end of Rogue One.

Have you ever seen 3+ films(not in a franchise) in a row that we’re all great?
Usually when I watch movies, I always come across a disappointment or just a bad movie, but over the course of the last three days I saw Terence Malick’s Badlands, Jonathan Glazer’s Under The Skin, and Steven Knight’s Locke, and all three were absolutely fantastic. I’d give Badlands and Under The Skin a solid 9/10 and I’d give Locke a strong 8. Have any of you had this happen to you, and if so which films?

I was born a decade and a half after the release of Back To The Future so I don’t know anything about the times back then. But I absolutely love the Back To The Future Trilogy ever since I saw it on cable when I was little. I’m just curious about how the experiences were in the cinemas when they were first released.

Movies like “Annihilation” and “mother!”?
Hey everyone, a few months ago I watched Annihilation and loved it. And just about an hour ago I finished watching mother! And I really liked it as well. I was wondering if there are other movies like these? What I mean is movies that intrigue you for the whole film, keeping you on edge and invested, and going into really weird territory, and when the credits roll, it leaves you staring blankly and trying to figure out the meaning of what you just witnessed.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! I loved these two films, because of all the different interpretations.

When will the next iconic horror character be?
I was hoping slender man would be the Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers of this generation but now I realized that the movie is rated PG-13. Most likely meaning they want as much people as possible to watch the film as a complete cash grab, milking on what was and probably still is, the biggest internet legend/ creepypasta. The last iconic horror villian we got was Jigsaw/ John Kramer from the saw series, back in 2004.

I did something really stupid and the shame and embarrassment I feel is indescribable?
Social media is causing me to be in a constant state of depression, stress, anxiety and. I have already deleted everything (Facebook and Instagram), but the fact that nothing is ever gone from the internet is what's eating at me.
I'm ashamed and extremely embarrassed to admit that I've photoshopped pictures of myself online in the past. It was extremely dumb of me. I was younger (in my teens) when I did so and I photoshopped and edited my body to look better and more curvy. I'm not internet famous or anything, but I did have a decent amount of followers on my account (more than the average person, around two to three thousand). I'm embarrassed my friends and family seen it, and I don't want to face or see them anymore because of it. The fact that anyone could've screenshotted and uploaded my embarrassing pictures somewhere online under #photoshopfail is really getting to me. I'm afraid someone I know in real life will see them on a photoshop fail account someday, or possibly a future employer. What if I can't get a job in the future because of this? The shame and embarrassment I feel is indescribable.
All I've been doing for the past few weeks is staying in bed and sleeping all day because of how stressed out this is making me. I can't leave my room or house, I'm having panic and anxiety attacks and I can't eat. I know I can't go back in time and un-post the photos I've posted, and I really don't know what to do. I wish I could go back in time to when I was younger and never make the choice to create any social media accounts. Life would be so much easier if I would've...this is too much for me to handle. I'm thinking of doing something drastic

How to look for meaning/purpose in life
When I am alone/not distracted by the obligations and activities of the outside world, I often fall into a nihilistic downward spiral of thought. For me, especially since I'm not religious and do not believe in afterlife/reincarnation it seems like everything I do will be useless and my actions have no real consequences since everything will be forgotten in the end. This empty outlook on life haunts me in lonely times and makes me sad and makes it hard for me to be motivated about anything.
Does anyone have any practical advice on how I can look for a meaning/purpose in my own life, and cling to it. It does not seems like I have something like that at the moment and it would help me hugely if I found my own raison d'être.
P.s. I have heard about optimistic nihilism, but the liberty it praises does not do it for me. I personally seek for something intrinsically valuable in life that my actions can work towards.

HI, I recently got a used tv to use as a second monitor and it works great but, it has a centimeter used a border of dead pixels all along the outside edge of the tv making it really difficult to access tabs and toolbar is there a way to set my screen size to like 95% size on my second monitor?

Does the ambulance tell you if the family member inside is hurt critically or not?
We just got a call from the fire department saying my dad fell and they're taking him to the hospital. He was drinking with friends, which he only does about once a year so he was probably extremely drunk and they said he "had a little fall" I know they sometimes say things in a mild way so you don't freak out. My mom is on her way to the hospital now and I'm having a panic attack thinking something could be very wrong. Should I be worried or would they have said it was bad if it actually was?

Blindspotting is fantastic
Just got back from seeing Blindspotting and am still gobsmacked by how good it was. If it’s not the most powerful movie I’ve ever seen, it’s in the top five. Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal (and the entire cast) are exquisite in their roles. And while the topics are heavy and there are scenes of almost unbearable tension, there are enough laugh-out-loud moments of humor to keep your stomach lining from digesting itself.
I’m from the Bay Area originally—Alameda-born, Oakland-educated—and the sub-theme of gentrification is right in sync with the reality. Honestly, the hipster jokes alone would be worth the price of admission, but the issues addressed in this movie are powerful, multi-layered, and freshly rendered. Absolutely loved it.

I've been thinking about "The Bourne Identity" and "Edge of Tomorrow" recently and thought that Doug Liman would be a perfect director for the franchise considering how he collaborated with Tom Cruise twice already. Appreciation of Barfly
Barfly is now available on Prime apparently. I put it on, surprised, and I wanted to celebrate this gem.
For a movie written by and centering around a first time screenwriter who outspokenly thought little of film, Barfly is a memorable, pretty, well-written movie that works on spite of, perhaps along with, its flaws.
I wish Mickey Rourke had toned it down a little, he approached the character slightly too flamboyantly. Still, it works. This is a character consumed by self-hate, who relishes being beaten to a pulp and degrading himself, but that self hate has fermented to poetry. Rourke's interpretation hits, and misses, but it always swings. But Dunaway-- her Wanda is a sorely underrated performance. Rourke isn't bad, but Faye steals the show.
This is definitely a movie written by a poet, and about a poet. I'm happy this is available on streaming now, I think it's a great film that deserves more praise. There's a reach for grittiness, based on a serious drunk's experiences, and the dialogue is sharp af. "Don't worry-- no one's ever loved me yet." I love the scene where Henry admires his wounds, and then another where a gaunt old man greats him after a fight, and they share an oddly tender, briefly vulnerable moment. The conversation between Henry and the rich girl pursuing him is pretty rich too... This is such a solid movie, and Bukowski wrote it reluctantly, solely for a paycheck. Dude couldn't phone it in if he tried. Barfly puts Factotum to shame so bad, I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist.
I've largely grown out of Bukowski, but damn, I still love this movie. Kudos to all involved.

What Exactly Is Gossiping/Slandering?
Hey all, I'll jump right In to why I want to know this.
I want to follow Buddhism properly, and one of the teachings Is right speech and one other teaching or guideline Is to refrain from false speech.
This generally means Gossip/Slandering abusive words swearing alot and just abusive verbal langauge.Any form of verbal Misconduct or Abuse Buddha frowned upon or disliked It heavily.
But what exactly Is Gossip or slandering?
As far as I can tell Slandering Is just spreading malicious rumours or lies about other poeple for the sake of conversation or to make someone feel angry or disgusted at who ever your talking about.
Gossip I think Is taking topics or other poeple's business or actions and then just chatting or mocking someone behind thier back.
So Is It gossip If you talked to someone else about something they've done and It's true?

Do you ever feel like you want to die before u fail to meet everyone's expections of you? Because ur too afraid u wont be able to ever fulfill them?

Did I do something wrong
I crossed an intersection, the light was yellow, I was going straight. There was a car waiting to turn left and honked at me and drove into my lane, I moved to the right lane to avoid collision. From what I was taught if I'm going straight I have the right of way, question is was I wrong or the guy turning left.

Depression after binge watching
I don’t know if it’s just me but every time I binge watch a series of movies and finish I feel so fucking bad. There’s this feeling of emptiness in the back of my head... this feeling of a void that can’t be filled. It’s bothering the shit out of me.
Knew the whole concept of Harry Potter, never read the books, and watched long segments of some movies here and there throughout the years. Have a lot of time on my hands so I decided to watch them all within a few days. And man did I fall in love with it. I just finished dh pt 2 and I feel so bad, so fucking bad. I almost regret watching it in the first place.

This doesn't have to be just star power, but also their personal life if it feels appropriate. I've often thought Emma Watson is similar to Shirley Temple because she's a very successful former child actress who's heavily involved in politics. AMC cutting off credits?
I just got out of a Thursday screening of Mission Impossible: Fallout (it was amazing) at the AMC in Colorado Springs, but as soon as the credits started, they shut their projector off, so you couldn't stay for the credits. I just find it a really shitty thing to do, considering how much work goes into making a film. Has anyone else experienced this at an AMC or anywhere else? Sorry if I'm breaking some subreddit rules, it just really pissed me off.

The Current nerd culture needs to change.
The outrage culture we're creating (or have created) is unbelievably toxic and isn't going to result in anything good. I'm seeing this in film, TV, games (dear god do I see it in games), whatever. Perfection or get the fuck out is pretty much the order of the day. Nobody can do anything right, nothing is ever good enough, everything is fucking awful except the very few things we deem to be OK (but even they better watch out!).
I don't understand what's so hard with seeing something, providing polite and constructive feedback and then voting with your wallet to see things change the way you want. Unfortunately instead we see people scream and rage from the high heavens about everything... before invalidating it all by forking over money for the next instalment of the series without so much as waiting for a review because maybe this one will be better or whatever other reason.

Long time MoviePass user, first time complainer...
I've been using MoviePass for over three years now. I know the company has been around for a bit longer than that, but I like to think of myself as having been on board fairly early on, having experienced all of the kinks and growing pains of the app.
I watched as they made us take pictures of our ticket stubs that would never seem to upload to the database, or when they hiked the price up from $35 to $50-100 a month as a way of "trying things out". I was also there when you could literally only see a movie every 24 hours, so if I saw a movie at 1:00pm on Tuesday and wanted to go to a 12:45pm showing on Wednesday, I was shit out of luck.
Despite all of this, I loved the app. As broke as I was, I had no complaints with spending $50 a month on MoviePass, because I would end up seeing upwards of $200 worth of movies a month. (Movies are expensive in NYC.) I never complained, I defended the app to death, and I watched as my friends and family abandoned ship before the $10 price drop, but it was always worth it to me. And then I watched as the app got steadily worse and worse as more and more people came onboard; during Oscar season, there seemed to be such an overload of the app in New York that I had trouble going to screenings on Saturday at all, because everyone had gotten MoviePass and it was the cool thing to do.
That being said, I have a couple of complaints to make.
- Get rid of this stupid price hiking. I don't want to have to spend $6 every Friday, Saturday, or Sunday when I go see a movie. The whole point of MoviePass is to pay one flat-rate fee upfront, then not have to worry about how much extra money I'm spending on movies per month. At least when it was $50 a month, I knew how to budget things and I knew that $50 was going towards movies. Living in New York, it's damn near impossible to find a movie that I either haven't already seen or one that isn't affected by surge pricing. What is this, Uber? If I go to a movie every weekend, that's an extra $24 a month that I'm paying. I know it's still saving me money, but it just feels like the "convenience fees" that Ticketmaster makes you pay, where you're paying for something that you can't really get around easily.
- Get rid of the stupid picture-taking system. I know that there are some people out there who are loading up the card and using it to buy clothes at Marshalls or whatever, but it's a real slap in the face to say "We don't trust that you're actually seeing the movie that you're seeing, so send us a picture of your ticket stub as proof." If someone really wants to get around the picture taking system, they'll go find a ticket stub in the auditorium and take a picture of it, but they'll still have used their card for whatever else. It's not that hard to get around, and it's a huge pain in the ass for everyone else. There are times where I've wanted to go see a movie but haven't been able to because I forgot to take a picture of my stub, and because you can only forget to take a picture one time, there's not really any way around it.
- If you are going to charge people for using the app to go see a movie, at least make it for premium screenings. I would rather you let me use the $18 on the card to pay for an IMAX movie and I pay the $7 difference than to pay for a $16 movie when the card is loaded up with $18. MoviePass doesn't loose any money if we're paying for an IMAX screening versus a regular screening, so what's the difference? Let us check in to those movies and let us know that we'll have to pay the difference. It's not rocket science. This is something that both A-List and Alamo Drafthouse are doing.
- Hike the monthly price up. Even if it's just to $15 a month, this will make it so that MoviePass isn't losing money. The company was doing fine before it dropped the monthly price to $10 a month, and a lot of that is because even if someone in New York uses it just once, the company already lose $6 per person on that one transaction. At least with a higher monthly cost, the company has a chance of making money off people in Minnesota or Idaho that only use it once or twice a month on movies that cost $5, and it's still a great deal to a lot of cinephiles that go to the movies anywhere between 5 to 20 times a month. That way, we'll stop getting posts about how MoviePass is dying or dead, and that way it'll still be a better deal than A-List or Drafthouse's program.
Anyways, I just wanted to get that all out. MoviePass is really great and I've enjoyed every second of it, but it's really frustrating when there are problems that can easily be fixed that aren't being addressed.

Galaxy Quest never gets old. Never surrenders.
iTunes has galaxy quest on sale for $4.99 and I just couldn’t pass it up. Watching it now and man I should have bought it when it was $14.99! This movie is just amazing. Outstanding cast and the effects hold up. Was this movie ahead of its time? I feel like it was. I mean the new Star Trek franchise came after this, there’s the Orville plus the new Star Trek on tv. Those don’t really compare to galaxy quest though, Such a brilliant movie. I really think the practical effects and make up are really great to. The villain the pig lizard Alexander’s head. But the best part of the movie is the quotes that it has. I can just quote this movie all day. Anybody here have a favorite line? Well that’s my rant on galaxy quest. Just had to share.

P.S.A. - American Psycho (Uncut Version) on Amazon Prime doesn’t have subtitles
It’s not going to ruin my day, but I’m sort of stunned that a rather popular movie, which has been out for a long time and has captioned versions, doesn’t have subtitles. I’m watching through my Xbox, so I don’t know if it’s different on other devices, but it’s still bizarre they would neglect a common feature.
I’m not entirely deaf, but I struggle enough that captions are a necessity. Be better, Amazon.

Tusk has got to be one of the most intentionally frustrating movie ever made.
I'm writing this while Johnny Depp's character is talking with Howard Howe/the shitty friends in the diner. I'm not even finished with the film and this is the first time I have ever seen it. I knew generally what it was about and that it kind of sucked if not definitely sucked but this is... this not what I expected.
It's not that it's intentionally trying to be a B movie or even that it's trying to be a great movie and falling short, it's a movie experience I have never had. I am impressed, this movie is amazing. Never have I felt this feeling of a constantly active and pronounced feeling of "Ugh this is so bad I hate this".
But it's bad in a way I can't even like it for how much I don't like it. I have never been so unhappy/frustrated by art in my life.
Jesus fuck I just now looked back at the TV and experienced the scene where HJO makes that big lebowski reference and then Johnny Depp is still there and UUUGHHHH..... UUUGHH... God damn this movie is so fuck off what... It's not even poorly acted or poorly shot it's just never giving me anything other than joyless anger/resentment.
I have so many specific complaints that would make for a significantly better post but I am just so flustered. OMG THE OLD MAN FROM REDSTATE IS IN HIS OWN WALRUS COSTUME???? FUUUUUCK THIS MOVIE.
Also where did the asshole friends get guns? I should have been paying attention.

Friend allergic to alloy metal
Hey, so recently a close friend and I decided to get one of those friendship yin yang necklaces , where one of us would wear either the yin necklace and the other the other pair, yang, yes we're both adults but hey. I bought the cheapest I could find, they were like .89p, good reviews on Amazon so i went for them.
As you can imagine they weren't sterling metal or pure metal or anything. I've worn my yin necklace everyday since I got them, and my friend has worn hers everyday. I haven't reacted to mine, but my friend seemed to have got an allergic reaction to the necklace. Itching, a few bumps and redness around her neck. Does anyone know how I can possibly make it so she won't react to the metal? Like a coating perhaps or should I just look for a sterling necklace? The necklace is a chain link chain with a pendant that hangs from it, which can come off.

Doc Martin Re-Sole?
I love my docs... the upper part of the shoes are great - excellent condition. But I just noticed the sole of the shoes where the pads of my feet land, are worn enough that I'm pretty sure they're water permeable. Yikes.
Has anyone ever re-soled a doc martin? Can you get replacement soles that are the same ones as the originals? These shoes have seen a LOT of the world and I'd like to keep them going.
