What canceled movies do you wish got made?
Canceled movies can be just as interesting as ones made, and its all ways sad to see alot of of hard work sometimes go to waste. Mine is the Disney animated film Fraidy Cat.
Plot
Oscar, a cat and Corina, a cockatoo are pampered, spoiled house pets that live an easy life in their owner's London flat. However, when a fellow neighbourhood pet is kidnapped and Oscar is the prime suspect, the two must set off on a mission to find out who the real culprit is so that they can clear Oscar's name. The film is a Action Comedy that is a loving satire to Alfred Hitchcock films.
I think this would have been a great film, as a Film fan I'd love to see Disney make a Hitchcock film, and think it would have been interesting for disney to try somthing less disney esque. It was canceled because they felt it wouldn't appeal to general audiences, with one Disney executive infamously saying ""I mean, who today even remembers who Alfred Hitchcock was? So why would kids in 2009 pay good money to see an animated film that pays tribute to an old, fat, dead movie director?"
Whats yours?

Criterion films - opinions
I've gotten a few Criterions:
- A Brighter Summer Day
- Last Year at Marienbad
- L'avventura
Thoughts on these films? I can't decide on which one I want to see tonight. Help me make my decision! Also, which Criterion films would you recommend apart from these? I want to get more into these kind of films, but I don't know where to start because their library is massive.

Don't watch Guns Akimbo. Here's why.
This is for whoever was gonna spend money to watch this. Don't. It's absolutely awful.
The movie reeks of this cringey stereotype of what the director thinks video game pop culture is. I could barely finish the movie. Everything about the movie feels like a dishonest attempt to appeal to an audience they clearly know nothing about.
Directing style is repetitive, has no ascension of any sort and is flat lined from the very start. Not only is it repetitive, it is gratuitous and has no climax moment of any sort not even once in the entire movie.
Besides the immense gaps in logic and basic lack of ability to tell a story in an interesting way that respects build up of atmosphere, I could tell from the first 15 minutes that the director and the writer were gonna be the same person. Everything sounds like it was written by one person. One person that can't write dialog.
I am really upset. Guns stuck to a man's hands making him obligated to fight for his life. What a way to destroy a brilliant idea. Only reason anybody even talks about this movie is because of the pitch and Daniel Radcliffe.

Not sure if I’m bi or not?
Hi everyone, I’m 18f and was always wondering wether I was bisexual or just an insecure heterosexual. I think I used to have a tiny crush on my female best friend back in middle school because I loved hanging out with her and got a warm fuzzy feeling when I was with her or thought about her. A couple of years later in sophomore year I saw this new girl whom I thought was absolutely gorgeous and I couldn’t take my eyes away from her but at the same time couldn’t look at her for too long but idk if this is because I was intimidated by how pretty she was? I’ve had crushes on boys on the past but not really on girls except my girl best friend. I wouldn’t mind kissing girls or even having sex with them but idk if I could be in a relationship with a girl. The same thing goes for boys just bc of some issues I have.
Sorry for the long story but I’ve just been wondering about this a lot and I don’t even know if this is the right subreddit to ask this >.< English isn’t my first language btw so sorry if I made some mistakes :(( I would appreciate advice or some comments on this a lot!

Settle an argument between me and a coworker - if you imagine a rabbit is on a table do you see the rabbit?
We disagree completely. We were talking about imagining that a rabbit is on top of an empty table.
I said that if i imagined the rabbit was on the table then I am able to see the rabbit on the table. I'm aware that it does not exist, but I can imagine it and hence see its image in the environment.
Step 1. - I can see an empty table
Step 2. - I can imagine the rabbit is on the table
Step 3. - I can see the rabbit on the table
He disputes this. He says that he can visualise the rabbit is on the table but that he can't see it. Like he knows what a rabbit looks like, and what it would look like on the table, but he can't SEE it on the table.
It's really blowing my mind how different our interpretation of this is. But at the same time I'm worried that we're both describing the same thing but that he is being stricter with the definition of "seeing the rabbit".
What do you guys think?

Movie name (kind of an indie film)
man i have this weird ass nostalgia memory about this film i watched about 3 to 4 years ago about a boy who plays soccer? And runs in the morning and then there's this girl he dates and kinda doesn't like? But then there's also this other girl that likes him and she's kinda weird and emo? Then at the third act there's like this pay off of just nobody really getting what they want the emo girl gets hurt the guy breaks up with his gf, and you know there's like, this other subplot about the guy's father, he's kinda being pushy about his son's carreer in soccer/football? The son also kinda gets an injury? The weird thing is that i saw this film on youtube, i don't think it got a theatrical release or anything you know...

10 Great Thriller Movies You’ve Probably Never Seen

Anyone else love the movie 1408?
I remember watching 1408 a couple years ago and have since watched it several more times. Every time I watch it, I enjoy it just a little bit more and it’s become one of my favorite films of all time. It’s an amazing psychological thriller and just the concept alone is great to me; an atheistic paranormal investigator that’s endlessly tormented in a hotel room.
Mike Enslin’s character arch is perfect and all the credit goes to his beautiful portrayal by John Cusack. He just plays the “spiral into insanity” cliche so well and it helps create the spectacular tension felt throughout the whole movie.
Also, the false ending here is predictable, yet stunning. The re-immersion just fills the viewer with a sense of dread as you connect with Mike. This all leads into the ending which left me stunned to say the least.
(SPOILERS) It’s important to know that 1408 has multiple endings depending on which version you watch but I’m going to talk about the theatrical release in this post as it was the first I saw. When Mike whipped out the tape recorder and played the audio for his wife, Lily, and I heard the voice of his daughter (who died of cancer and led to the separation of Mike and Lily), I almost lost it. That was such an amazing way for Lily to find out that he wasn’t insane and everything actually happened within the room. This wasn’t an easy way to end the movie but it was pulled off so smoothly and I commend the director for that.
What do you guys think of this movie?

Uncut Gems intro.
The uncut gems intro was more blade runner and vangelis than blade runner 2049, the guy that the Safdie brothers collaborate with totally nailed that old school synth sound om both Uncut Gems and Good Time.
I just now got around to watching the blu-ray of Uncut Gems and man, that was a trip. I loved it overall, Sandler was great and Lakeith did a good job as well and i’m not even gonna say anything about the ending.
I can’t decide if like this or Good Time more but I might be leaning just a bit more towards Good Time for some reason and i’m definitely looking forward to their next project.

What are some gruesome (possibly gory) thriller/suspense movies like 'Bone Tomahawk' and 'Green Room'?
I was wondering if there were any films like 'Bone Tomahawk' because I found the entire Western setting to be extremely eerie and unsettling as it was extremely isolated (I loved it by the way). And I also loved the violence and gore as it kept me gripped and was the best I've ever seen. I have already seen 'Green Inferno' and it wasn't as good and its ending also was pretty predictable. I am looking for a (not-necessarily Western) action-packed (gory too), suspenseful/thriller, with a good plot that's gripping. I have also already seen 'Brawl in Cell Block 99' and 'Green Room' and I absolutely loved both of these too.

What were your thoughts on the movie Midsommar?
I just watched this movie on Amazon Prime a couple hours ago, and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I absolutely loved the creepy environment they created with this film, from the haunting psychedelic soundtrack, trippy visuals, and eerie folk drawings and tapestry which gave the whole place a dark and ancient feel. There was a deep sense of "evil" throughout the whole area. Just seeing some of the locations in the village gave me this growing feeling that something is very, very wrong here. I had a subtle yet persistent feeling of mortal fear and dread throughout the film and I didn't feel like anyone could be trusted. Watching scenes in that town felt like being teleported to a literal hell on earth. I also really liked how the movie managed to feel so creepy and unsettling despite being set almost entirely during the day time. Most horror movies rely on night time scenes to increase the spooky aspect, but somehow the brightness in many of the scenes added to the creepiness. My main gripe with this film was that some the the scenes in the last half were drawn out a little too long, to the point where I began to lose interest even when really creepy shit was happening on screen. Also, some of the characters seemed a little too cliched and were too oblivious to all the red flags going off all around them. Overall, I'd give it maybe an 8/10.

What is the best way to guarantee certified mail gets scanned?
I was reading the other day that approximately 5% of all certified mail fails to get scanned when sent through the USPS. Is there anyway to guarantee it got scanned. My current place of work sends out about 500 certified letters a month. It’s not a huge deal if it doesn’t get scanned except when someone denies they were sent anything or if they are time sensitive. I was considering bringing them directly to the post office and trying to insist that whomever working the counter scan them while I’m there. But that is going to eat up a lot of time in line and make me no friends with the counter attendant. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Why is it bad or maybe “rude” to tell people your PC specs?
I’ve seen a lot of people asking others for pc specs and I usually see a response of something along the lines “why would I reveal my specs?” Or I see a lot of people saying the most annoying people are people who talk about their specs.
Is anything wrong with revealing your PC’s specs? If so, what is it?
Thanks.

Are there any classic movies where the main protagonist is a workaholic?
A common workaholic figure would be Donald Trump, but from what I can see, no movies on "The Donald" ever reached any serious popularity level. Ideally, I’m searching for "classic" movies, in the sense that they could potentially influence our collective imagination. With that said, any movie suggestions around themes that illustrate contemporary relations to work in terms of urgency, performance anxiety, compulsions, obsessions, skill mastery, and so on, would be great!

Alita Battle Angel - I'm not sure what I watched
I finally watched Alita with no real expectations and I didn't go on with any idea of what the story was. 2hrs later, I still don't know what the story is.
Visually, I really enjoyed it. The cyborg design looked really cool, and I didn't get lost during the fights like some other robot-fighting movies tend to do. I eventually saw past Alitas CG and enjoyed her performance.
The world it was in was really cool, I guess that's thanks to the source material.
But, I finished the movie confused about what went on. Was it a case of needing to have done familiarity with the source material? Because I don't really get some things and the end was very unsatisfactory. Based on the closing scene befits the title card, she's on debut as a professional athlete - that feels like the whole movie was about her fulfilling her ambition to play sport professionally. Did I miss the bit that explains sport is her actual motivation? I got the feeling that her motivation was to find out who she is and what happened during the fall to leave her for dead?
The pacing felt weird too. Did everything happen in a few days, weeks, months, years? It was hard to tell the passage of time during the whole thing.
Maybe I just missed things because I don't know the manga or anime

What active actor do you wish appeared in more films?
Chris Cooper seems to always star in interesting movies and gives a pretty decent performance, but his starring roles are pretty rare. I wish Daniel Craig would appear in more movies because I pretty much just associate him with James Bond (although, I haven't seen Knives Out). Other than that, I think Kevin Kline could play a pretty good villain sometime. And maybe even Wally Shawn

The Goonies Review
I am 13 years old, and personally, one of my most favorite movies from the 80s has got to be The Goonies. It has all the action, the scenery, Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, and others like Jonathan Key Quan and Jeff Cohen. This movie is without a doubt one of the most saddest and action-packed movie rolled all into one beautiful package. If you guys ever get the chance to watch it, it’s on DVD at your local Target. Highly recommend watching this movie.

Is it stupid that girls are depressed?
How can girls be more depressed with guys? I saw a stat and it’s said 25% of girls in America have self harmed. Another stat I read said that 1/3 adult women need antidepressants to survive etc. First of all, women have more equality that EVER before. Wouldn’t they be happier than ever then? Girls get so many opportunities and freedoms, even more than guys go because college acceptance/college applicants quotas favor women now... and they’re still not happy? Girls can get friends easy, get a BF or sex easy, they can get out of parking tickets for having a cute smile etc. Girls have way better lives than men, at least in the developed world, mainly America. Other parts of the world no. But I’m referring to American girls here. I see so many of them posting about depression and suicide and these are cute af girls in college! In America which like like top 5 most wealth countries in the world - and the average middle class American lives better than middle class people elsewhere, oh and I can mention that with laws, social protection and healthcare. Being a girl, in the United States, in this day and age, especially a cute girl, you are EXTREMELY advantaged. Guys are too. It seems no one is happy even though we live better than 99% of humans that have EVER lived. Literally even 100 years the quality of life was drastically low.
AND ITS STILL NOT ENOUGH. As a guy, I’m very lonely. I don’t have any friends. I’m unattractive, girls act like I don’t exist. I am a “man” so I have stupid expectations, i also can’t talk to anyone about my suicide attempts etc. because guys are laughed at when we do. Girls don’t have to deal with that stuff they’re lives are much better than guys, I know I’ll get hate for this and girls will get mad that I said their lives are easier but honesty they are. I just don’t get why girls are so depressed when the Govt. gave them their equal rights etc. And they still ain’t happy. And girls are SOOOO depressed these days: WHY!?

You're channel surfing when you run across one of your all-time favorite films. Now you've absolutely got to stop and watch the rest of the flick because you love it that much. What's "that movie" for you?

What is a movie that you put off watching for a long time, only to be thoroughly impressed when you finally did watch it?
Despite being a big Tim Burton fan I had never seen Edward Scissorhands before. For some reason in my brain I had it pegged as some terribly sappy romance movie, just surface-level mush.
Recently decided to watch it due to a craving for classic Depp movies and... it's actually an amazing movie? I didn't expect it to have so many layers: great comedy (who decided putting Edward in a room with a water bed was a good idea?!), incredible acting (Depp's ability to show so much emotion), and overarching themes that are always relevant to society. It's well written, well directed, and I'm damn well kicking myself for not watching it sooner.
What is your "missed out" movie? One that you put off seeing because you had an idea of what you thought it would be like, but then actually watched and ended up being incredible?

Everyone and everything who ever lived on earth is still alive.
There might be some flaws in my thinking but it blows my mind always. If some ancient Alien civilisation who resides 2100 light years were to look at Earth through some incredible telescope with the capacity to zoom in on individuals, they’d be able to see Julius Caesar alive, and he would still be alive in their “reality”, would that make him conscious? Even though he has been dead 2100 years in our reality.
Does that make all of us immortal? As long as light travels we theoretically still exist if someone was to look close enough

As it says, found a clam in a sprinkler box, seems like it may be alive?
The thing is, I am in Arizona so I am wondering what a living clam is doing in a sprinkler box, there was more then one too. It is tightly shut and from what I have read online it is alive.
Any idea why it would be somewhere like here like that?
EDIT:

Personally I found Logan to be much better than Joker
Now before someone gets all pissy with this post, let me just say that Joker is a just okay movie. I didn't find it to be spectacular and honestly I disagree with Joaquin Phoenix getting best actor when there were performances he has done that I think he deserved an oscar way over this performance and personally I thought Adam Sandler from Uncut Gems deserved a nom and Adam Driver from Marriage Story gave a more layered performance. And plus there are just some narrative issues with the film mainly at the end. Now let me just say that there are writing issues with Logan, mainly exposition issues.
The reason why I find Logan to be better than Joker is based off of the intention of both filmmakers who made this film. What makes Logan better than Joker is the fact while Logan is different from the superhero films we have seen, it still takes it's time to analyze the Superhero genre with the comic books being featured in the film. Now Joker didn't need to have Arthur or Joker reading a comic book about himself but when I heard interviews from Todd Phillips where he said stuff such as "I literally described to Joaquin at one point in those three months as like, 'Look at this as a way to sneak a real movie in the studio system under the guise of a comic book film'. It felt as if it was just a guy who was making this film out of spite rather than trying to analyze its genre it's disguising itself as. Now let's not forget that Logan director James Mangold has stated some things about the comic book genre stating in one interview that these comic book movies tend to be like "cheeseburgers" where you eat them but you quickly forget about them. (I tried looking for the interview where Mangold said that but I couldn't find it, if you guys find it let me know.) Now that in a way sounds sounds pretentious itself but the reason why personally it didn't bother me is the fact that Logan analyzed its genre and didn't completely abandon the Superhero genre.
Now again, let me just say that this is more personal than it is objective mainly because Joker is an okay film but I found Logan to be better mainly because it didn't abandon the genre and decided to analyze it where as I wish Joker had something interesting to say about the genre it was disguising itself as.

I think resevoir dogs would make a interesting tv show if done right.
Now before i get yelled i just wanna say im not advocating for the movie just as a tv show but a series in the same universe. I kinda roll my eyes when i see post like this but reservoir dogs is filled to the brim with things to explore, like the other heist that had happened. With a competent director and a good writer, this could work. This idea sparked when i watched the Fargo tv show, it was very entertaining and has interesting characters and didn't ride of the back of the movie.

respect for sean connery.
I just thought of all the great movies sean connery was in, and how much i respect him. Thomas Sean Connery was born on August 25, 1930 in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. His mother, Euphamia C. Maclean, was a cleaning lady, and his father, Joseph Connery, was a factory worker and truck driver. He also has a brother named Neil Connery, who works as a plasterer in Edinburgh. He is of Irish and Scottish descent. Before going into acting, Sean had many different jobs, such as a milkman, lorry driver, a laborer, artist's model for the Edinburgh College of Art, coffin polisher and bodybuilder. He also joined the Royal Navy, but was later discharged because of medical problems. At the age of 23, he had a choice between becoming a professional footballer or an actor, and even though he showed much promise in the sport, he chose acting and said it was one of his more intelligent moves. His big breakthrough came in 1962 when he landed the role of secret agent James Bond in Dr. No (1962). He played James Bond in six more films: From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983).

My little sister(13) keeps threatening to run away / call the cops on my mom for abuse. My mom doesnt by any means. For example right now, my mom just doesnt want to go buy pizza, and even offered to make her other stuff we have at home. She usually leaves and after she comes back 30 to an hour later and my mom caves cause she doesn't want her to call the cops, but this is obviously still a bad situation. What do we do?

Are "The Revenant" and "Man In The Wilderness" based on the same story
I was just watching some old clips of Richard Harris and he speaks about a movie he made called "Man In The Wilderness" and from what I've seen and read about the film it has a very similar storyline to "The Revenant". From what I can gather, they're not based on the same book but may be based on the same real-life story. Can anyone help shed some light on this for me?

I really enjoy Chillwave music. It’s probably one of my favorite genres of music. Artists like Neon Indian, Washed Out, Vallis Alps, and Toro Y Moi are all quality music in my opinion. I’ve noticed a lack of that Chillwave feel as of late. Does anybody know any good Chillwave as of recent?

Idk if this is the right place to ask this... but Lately on my commute to work there have been cops at almost every intersection and a few times I've seen 3 or 4 cop cars pull over 2 or so vehicles and they have their vehicles open like they are searching for something. My Neighbors Weird Behavior
So I have a super shady neighbor in my apartment building and in trying to figure out what they might be up to and I found some weird stuff out about them that I cannot make heads or tails of. This neighbor is very hostile to everyone in the neighborhood, keeps the curtains drawn constantly, and behaves in a very paranoid fashion whenever anyone stops by. Being that he lives very close to me I wanted to make sure he wasn't conducting any type super shady business out of his apartment or whatever so I did some digging online.
I found a number of odd things out about him, but I am specifically curious if anyone could think of a reason why someone would purchase a large number of cheap low cost vehicles (we're talking like 5-6 per year), keep them for a short period of time, then just sell them off? My neighbor does not appear to be any sort of mechanic and does nothing to fix these cars up or whatever he just keeps them for a time and then gets rid of them within a couple months. I've also found out that the cops have pulled him over 4 - 5 times for not having either a valid registration or proof of insurance. Seems odd that the cops keep pulling him over so frequently.
Curious if anyone could think of any shady or mundane reasons for this.

Finally got around to Marriage Story
Last night I watched Marriage Story on Netflix to finally understand what people have been saying about the film. My only knowledge regarding the film have been the meme and clips that have been plastered all over social media (ScarJo dancing and the fight scene between Nicole and Charlie.)
Starting out, I thought that it was interesting to hear the letters each character wrote about each other, stating the good and the bad. I liked how the letters that were being read followed the actions of the character being described. From this point, I found the movie to be rather slow. To me, the divorce and the having the child reminded me of the movie Kramer vs. Kramer (even though I have never seen that movie either.)
I’ll say this, I LOVE LAURA DERN and she can do no wrong. I think that she played the part very well and I can see why she has won awards for this part. She was believable in every sense of the word. I think it was interesting that they decided to blur the lines between friendship and professionalism throughout the movie (her kicking her shoes off when sitting on the couch and her being at the party.)
One character that I thought added nothing to the story in terms of acting is the social worker who came to observe the relationship between Charlie and Henry. I think that all of her lines were forced and it seemed like she wasn’t acting. She felt awkward, which might have been the point, but I think it was painful to watch that part of the movie.
In my opinion, the most shared scene has been the argument that takes place between Nicole and Charlie. After seeing it several times on social media, the scene finally made sense. Everything from the initiation of the divorce (the separation, the moving, the lawyers, the changes, etc.) had come to a head, leading to an explosion. I still stand behind my initial thoughts that yelling isn’t necessarily the best way to express anger. I think that this scene could have been done a lot better by using tone, breaks, and physicality (not punching a wall like a macho man.) But the message was clear that they needed to finally have it out so that they could heal appropriately.
Overall, the movie wasn’t totally horrible, and it ended in a way that was optimistic about the future. I thought it was beautiful when Henry was reading the letter at the end, with help from Charlie, and he finally got to know what Nicole had written. Charlie and Nicole were finally able to be who they wanted to be, independently, without having to worry about one over-shadowing the other. By living separately and doing what they truly wanted, they were finally able to stop resenting each other and able to move forward with co-parenting Henry in a non-toxic environment.

South Korean films are getting a lot of discussion and recognition here because of Parasite (well-deserved). What about other Asian country films? Any Recommendations?
Japanese anime movies (Akira, Perfect Blue, Paprika, anything Miyazaki) and Kurosawa movies (Seven Samurai, Rashomon) are pretty well-known, but what about some newer, live action Japanese movies that you love? I recently saw and loved One Cut of the Dead, a very unique take on a zombie movie. And I saw another post that said Bong Joon Ho was inspired by Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure when he was making Parasite. Battle Royale and 13 Assassins are also great.
What about Chinese, Indian, Thai, etc? What other (non-Korean) Asian movies would you recommend?

I'm looking for movies that came out at the wrong time and because of that they either didn't do well and were under seen because of that. I remember Donnie Darko was given a release date around the same time as the 9/11 attacks and because of that it didn't do to well, and it also didn't help that the movie involved a plane crash.

Billie Eilish is one of the GOATs
okay hear me out...
when she has the autotuned line "bad guy" it does sound a lot like "baa'd". So, this is either a sheep, or a billy goat.
her name is Billie and the goat is billy, the animal is a goat and so is she...
confirmed... Eminem better watch himself...

Can anyone help me find this old game?
Okay, so back in like 2013-2014 (it was probably made earlier though) there was a very interesting game. It was a norse themed online shared world game kinda like destiny where you play as giants who were recently revived after being killed off. There were 6 "classes" you could call them, like the 4 elements and light and dark, each with their own unique abilities and stuff like that. Then there were 3 factions, where the meat of the game truly lies. The main play of the game outside of quests was to conquer cities or villages from your faction, there would be towers and buildings you'd have to destroy as well as swarms of people you have to kill before the city belongs to your faction. While in your own city, you could hold a certain button to have friendly humans crawl onto you to attack enemies of any kind with either bows or throwing spears. You could also command them to dismount, all of that was vital to sieges. The reason I ask is because this game seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth no matter how much I searched, and I'll know it when I see it. (More info in the comments that's likely useful).

Does anyone have any experience with the word of life ministries in southern california?
My ex was in a church that had a bible study. It was called the word of life ministries. They were secretive about where they actually went to church because they claimed they had enemies working to take them down. You could only start going to the church after completing bible study. There were different church locations and each location had their own 'color'. My ex would wear green because that was her church location's color. They claimed to be different from other christian sects because they believed not just in moral teaching, but in prophecy and fulfillment. They believed that there was a chosen pastor that was bringing about the understanding of the new testament and that we would even get to hear them preach when we got through study. We had to take lots of notes and attend twice a week. Some people took it over and over, like my ex, so she was actually going to a church thing on saturdays, attending actual church on sundays, and still did 2 days a week of bible study. They would give you a test at the beginning of each class. I never passed bible study, almost got to the end but ended up skipping state because it was an extremely abusive relationship. They strongly encouraged you to participate in the church as much as possible. They strongly believed that God was going to create a unified people and create zion on earth, and lead gods people (the 144,000 anointed, and the great multitudes) there. They believed in a sort of cycle. God has a tabernacle, destruction enters, gods chosen fall (sun moon and stars darken and fall), and a chosen pastor with the open word of the (in this case) new testament is supposed to come and lead people away to zion. Thats just a rough outline.

Instead of the Oscars, why not have the winner of each guild awards?
I’ve read a lot of stuff recently about how Oscar voters haven’t watched all of the films nominated, and about how certain voters don’t understand particular categories, and it got me thinking, actors will know better than anyone else what makes a good performance. Directors will recognise directing challenges and brilliance better than most, writers will celebrate a good script etc.
Wouldn’t having each categories guild voting on just that category be a more accurate portrayal of the awards won?

In La La Land, are Mia and Sebastian’s surnames were references to some of Chazelle’s favourite filmmakers?
In La La Land the two leads are named Mia Dolan and Sebastian Wilder, which I’m thinking could be homages to fellow filmmakers Xavier Dolan and Billy Wilder.
It’s pretty well documented that Chazelle is a big fan of old Hollywood and in particular movies from the 50’s and 60’s. While I haven’t heard him explicitly express love for Wilder in particular, I would be very surprised to find out that he isn’t a fan.
I swear Xavier Dolan is a French-Canadian filmmaker (though I just checked and it only says Canadian; maybe it’s the Mandela Effect), but I’m sure some of his films are in French? Chazelle is French-American and regardless of Dolan’s race, it seems pretty plausible to me that the surnames could be references to these people.
Chazelle famously includes references to other movies in his own (Top Hat, Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Singin’ in the Rain to name a few) so it wouldn’t be out of character to include subtle nods to a couple of filmmakers he admires.
What do you think? Am I reaching or could there be some credence to this?
(Apologies for posting twice in the same sub in quick succession. Had these as notes in my phone and wanted to get rid of them)
Edit: sorry about the word ‘we’re’ in the title. Dammit!

I've seen Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) AMA
Hello fellow Donut lords and Pretzel ladies of Reddit! I was lucky enough to have gotten some advanced tickets to go see Sonic the Hedgehog last Saturday, and I wanted to share some of my impressions of the film.
-First and foremost, the Sonic Character himself looked pretty great, especially compared to the original design. However, like half of the time, he's not very well voice acted. It sounded like Ben Schwartz delivered some of his lines drunk (Throwback to the OG Video game movie). There was definitely something off with some of the lines (but not all of them).
-This is very much your run of the mill kids film. Don't expect anything more. Kids will find this movie very entertaining. Adults will find it unoffensive at most.
-A lot of sequences are derivative of other movies. For example:There's a scene in a bar that is practically shot for shot the Xmen DOFP Quicksilver scene.
-Jim Carry is beyond Zaney and bizarre in his portrayal of Dr. Robotnik, but he's clearly having a blast and its fun to watch him ham it up on the screen the same way he used to.
-Natasha Rothwell is probably the highlight of the movie, she steals every scene that she's in and got consistent laughter in the theater.
-The film's humor (thankfully) doesn't rely on poop or fart jokes and has a good variety of humor and one really funny product placement that is so self-aware that it is actually hilarious.
Overall the movie is the definition of adequate. The movie is not going to change the narrative on video game movies, nor is it going to alter the course of mankind. It was a fun, but ultimately forgettable road-trip adventure movie that will probably please fans of the series. I would suggest going to support this movie to reward the filmmakers for listening to their fans and working tirelessly to improve the perception of the film.
Let me know what you want to know about the movie and Ill try my best to answer it. Spoiler-free of course!

Digital copies should always come with physical copies of movies
I love when I buy a blu-ray and it comes with a code for w digital version. I just wish that all films done this, I don’t understand why they don’t. Once I buy the movie physically I’m not going to buy it again just to get it digitally, vice versa. Now it feels like an extra treat but it should be the norm.
Extra bit - I especially love when the digital copy is stored on Google Play because it means that I can stream the movie directly from my YouTube account which is extremely useful. If I’m over at a friends and we want to watch a film all I need to do is log onto YouTube.
What’s your opinion?

Why are Birds if Prey's box office numbers getting called "terrible" when it's making similar money to Kingsman which had a higher budget and was considered a surprise success?
Birds of Prey had a $33M opening weekend on an $82M Budget.
Kingsman: The Secret Service had a $36M opening weekend on a $94M budget.
That movie was considered a surprise success -- so much that it spawned an even bigger sequel and franchise. Is Birds of Prey just being labeled a failure because it's doing modest numbers on the tail of Joker's surprise billion?

UNPOPULAR LIFE RISKING OPINION: Anyone else sick to death of hearing the raves for Parasite like it’s the second coming?
It’s nothing extraordinary! I mean it’s FINE, it’s fairly entertaining and well put together but jeez Louise it’s hardly The Godfather or Pulp Fiction. I absolutely do not get the praise for this film. I even saw it twice to be sure I didn’t miss something the first time. Nope, didn’t miss anything. I find it frustratingly predictable, implausible and silly at times. Sometimes it feels like I’m watching a glorified show for kids. It’s a 6.5 tops for me.
