Does anyone know if Spirou & Fantasio's Big Adventure (2018) is possible to stream in the USA?
I'm a big fan of French comics and movies, and sometimes they are on major streaming services (Tintin, some of the Asterix) a but rarely. I've even seen that the Marsupiliami movie can be bought/rented on Amazon Prime, which is of the same universe as the Spirou comics.
Does anyone know if Les Adventures de Spirou et Fantasio is available to stream in the US?
Thanks for any help

Can someone explain to me how Gareth Evans has not blown up in the US yet?
Prior to today I had only seen his short in VHS2 which I absolutely loved. But I finally just watched The Raid and... HOLY SHIT. I think it might be the best pure action movie ever made. The choreography was the obvious accomplishment (by protagonist Iko Uwais who should also be a huge star) but the direction and vibe was just as incredible. If I were a studio head he’d be the first guy I’d give a movie to and I’d give him complete control. Imagine him with a Marvel movie? Why hasn’t something big like this happened yet??

Who is a director whose films you've seen but you've disliked them all?
For me it's Baz Luhrmann. I've seen The Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet and I've disliked both. I saw Gatsby recently and I thought the pacing was really poor and the casting was really odd and not really appropriate. As an adaptation it doesn't miss things out much or change things from the book, but it just speeds through and things carry much less weight than they do in the book. As for Romeo and Juliet, it has been much longer since I saw it but I found it felt gimmicky and boring. Who's your director like that?

I have always wondered if Caine and his friends were in a gang, were a gang themselves or were they just a group of friends that hung out and committed crimes together? I’ve seen this movie years ago, don’t remember the name or key plot events, only some parts of it. Could you please help me, reddit?
Hello. I’m sorry, I didn’t know where to post this question, so I just chose this subreddit.. If you know where is the proper place for such question, please let me know and I will post it there;
So this is probably one of the first movies for “mature” audience I’ve seen in my life, I saw it probably in around 2006 when I was 8 years old, so the film must be at least like 13 or more years old now. I remember some of it’s scenes so vividly, yet I’ve never known the name or the actual plot events. I would LOVE to see it again, for some reason, maybe because it captivated me at the time so much! Some of the bits of the film still come back to me from time to time.
Things that I remember:
- it is a colored movie, probably American, from modern era
- two main characters, both middle-aged men, one blonde, one with black hair
- the blonde one was (as I remember it) riding a motorcycle and had something to do with explosives, which I think is very important for the movie, and I remember one scene where the black-haired man threatened the blonde one to shoot him, but the blonde one said they would both die because the bombs/explosives attached to the him(the blonde one) would blow up
- both of these men become friends/allies during the movie
- the blonde one gets shot at the end, dying. The black-hair gets very very angry, and avenges his blonde friend by shooting the killer (in a train I think)
- at the end of the movie, there is a massive explosion
These are all things I remember. I know it’s messy, and I wish I could recollect more info, but sadly this is all I got. If you had even the craziest idea about what movie this could be, please please please, let me know in the comments, I would really appreciate that! Thank you!

The Current States of America
So there's been a lot of anti police sentiment. I'm not sure if anyone's noticed...
Just a joke, I digress.
My question is for those who are against police officers as a single entity. So much so, that they feel justified in harming them and support the rioting and looting that's going on.
Before the facebook users turned redditors attack me:
There are cops who want to do/do bad things, we understand this. Unfortunately, evil can be an inherent human trait.
On the contrary
Not all cops are bad. Most are innocent HUMAN BEINGS, not unlike some of the HUMAN BEINGS a few bad cops have killed. These few doesnt make ALL police bad. I happen to know quite a few good ones in fact. True heroes who would sacrifice their lives towards peace and justice.
My question is this: What happens when you need one of these heroes but they're not around anymore because of people like you?

What are pros/cons with various types of lipo?
I [f26] am healthy and active. I workout 5-6 days per week and eat healthy 80% of the time. I have that stubborn lower belly fat and some cellulite under my butt. I even had it when I was a serious athlete. Yay genetics. Anyway, I want lipo. I dont think I want regular lipo. I prefer the laser noninvasive thats just on top of the skin. I've heard of vaser lipo which is like halfway noninvasive from what I understand. I know there are many more "fat blaster" methods. Honestly, money is the #1 factor and #2 is side effects and down time.
What are your experiences? Thanks!
And I'm only posting here because it has gotten taken down from several ask/advice subs for breaking the rules lol

Ya no estoy aqui (I'm no longer here)
A film written and directed by Fernando Farias, sarring Juan Gabriel Garcia Trevino, it shows a culture not commonly presented when talking about the North of Mexico. When one thinks about the north of Mexico, it is usually about boots and cowboy hats. Ya No Estoy Aqui shows the Kolombiano move from the 90's and the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century. It also show a little bit of how the Narcos starting to take over some of the poor neighborhoods of Monterrey, MX, but the film is mainly about how are life changes and how sometimes our life changes without our control. Ulises is a 17 year old, a leader of a gang called Terkos, who main entertainment is dancing cumbia kolombiana, but through not fault of is own is forced to leave his gang and the city where he grows up. He founds himself in New York when customer and culture is very different from what he costumed and never is able to fit in in the city. The film take us to a series of emotions and at the end, my understanding is that like the saying goes, one can't never come back home ever again. I strongly recommended it is in spanish with subs available in Netflix, but even you speak spanish, you may have a hard time understanding all the slang.

This is what I dislike about the latest trend in action movies (CQC, gun kata-style stuff).
Because they have to film these things in close quarters, that means no blanks, which means guns no longer have that impactful recoil feedback, muzzle flashes tend to be digital which don't tend to look great (both in terms of environmental illumination and the actual flash), and even ejecting brass isn't as prominent anymore.
Something's always gotta give, I suppose.
Would be dope if they made prop guns that helped preserve the illusion more cause as it stands, these shootouts lack some impact and visual feedback that leave a lot to be desired for a shootout enthusiast.
Just thinking aloud.

Trying to ID a movie from my childhood
Trying to remember the title of a movie that myself and a few friends can remember some of the plot from 25+ years ago but just can't seem to find.
I vaguely recall it being along the same lines as blown away, bomb maker Vs defusal guy. But that movie doesn't seem to fit right.
Guy is defusing bombs, if I remember the last one was inside a glass case that the only way he could get into it to defuse was via the seams through some sort of putty of this glass case, if I remember there were 2-3 of them in various locations. Had a 80/90s vibe.
I remember being crazy about watching it. And imagining my parents fishtank was this bomb 😂
Most of my movie rainman friends recall it but can't put a finger on it.

I am a single parent and I probably won’t have time to watch it... so Im curious about the ending. If I am able to see it I like movies to be spoiled so that I don’t get scared as well.
Also, I can’t find any spoilers online.
I’ve watched 8 YouTube videos and several online written reviews and no one is spoiling it.
Thank you so much in advanced!!

Ranking of Streaming Service
With the launch of HBO MAX here is how I rank the Streaming services and favorite thing I watched recently.
- netflix. because of how much original content they release. they literally have a show for everyone. They used to light years ahead of everyone but due to streaming wars they have been losing Licensed content. Extraction and unbelievable were two of the thing I enjoyed recently.
- HBO MAX. HBO creates great content and I know I get more Movies for the same price. they currently don't have much original content due to covid, but I suspect they will have some excellent originals (Jj abrams and HBO people). Succession and Barry alone are worth the 15 dollars a month. Favorite thing I watched was a rewatch of Barry.
- Hulu. after the first two it's a major step down. Hulu has a lot of content, it's just hard to find. until recently hulu focused on broadcast tv (most shows suck) instead of originals. This year they have really started to churn out some great content thanks to FX and Neon. many would put Disney+ ahead but I enjoy Hulu adult content instead of Disney kid focused content. Dave is one the funniest shows released this year. Dave and Big time Adolescence are things I enjoyed on Hulu
- Disney+. they have a large catalog of content but they lack of good originals outside two star wars shows frustrates me. in a few years when they get better original they could move up the list. outside the MCU and star wars movies, nothing else excites me. If I had kids it would be number 2. I canceled my subscription last month but enjoyed watching all the MCU movies this last month.
- Starz. their movie catalog is very underrated and its worth pay for a few months. great movies like Moneyball, Gone baby Gone and Once upon a time in Hollywood are some of the movies I rewatched.original content is subpar, but I only watch the movies. I would not subscribe for a year, but its still worth checking out. Gone baby Gone is great
- Amazon. amazon makes great content just not enough (they release maybe 3 shows a month) and their catalog is sparse. If it was not included in prime I would not pay for it. Upload and Jack Ryan are the only things I remember watching this past year.
- Peacock. I love the office and Parks and Recs but I still don't know anything else about this service.
- Showtime has one good show (billions) and maybe one good movie in its catalog (saw superbad a few weeks ago). I got Showtime for free I barely use it. I don't know why anyone would pay for showtime streaming or how Showtime makes money. Billions is deffeinty ment for HBO ,but got passed on and ended up on showtime. Billions by a mile
DOA: Quibi. Quibi Sucks. I downloaded it the first day and deleted it the next day. they are going to shut down soon and all their content is going to other services (they don't own IP for anything). cogrants to every one that secruded a bag from Quibi. watch a ad before a episode and then didn't watch anything else.
Did I forget any Service?

After recently watching "What If" or "The F Word" starring Daniel Radcliffe, I kind of wish he did more comedy films.
The other day I somehow stumbled on this video on youtube and I was surprised that Daniel Radcliffe and Adam Driver played friends in a movie! I was so intrigued that I watched the trailer and while it seemed a little by the books, it had a charm to it. It's streaming on Amazon Prime so I watched it that same night and I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie wasn't re-inventing the wheel or anything, but it was very funny, the cast had great chemistry, and it actually felt pretty fresh as far as romcoms go. But the aforementioned chemistry is what made it for me. Adam Driver and Radcliffe are a funny duo and really compliment each other (their heights made them an interesting duo visually too). And then Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan had a great rapport that really sells the movie. (Off topic, but while I've heard about Zoe Kazan and I'm very familiar with the stuff she's done, I've never actually seen her in a movie and she's awesome! I'm probably going to finally watch the Big Sick later this week).
I said this on my letterboxd review, but I have even more respect for Mr. Radcliffe because he might've had a career on the indie romcom route! He's an absolute natural at it! But instead, he's constantly challenged himself with other offbeat indie movies. Which is cool. But...I do think it would be cool to see him in more straight up comedies. I can see him knocking it out of the park in a sharply written comedic film. I don't know why Knives Out immediately comes to mind, but maybe something like that.
Anyhow, I was curious to see what everyone else thought of this.

In old Chinese kung fu films, why are the British portrayed as the bad guys?
When I watch these films, they always show a British police officer acting like a douche to the Chinese or showing their corruption by letting crime run wild or through money laundering schemes. Is this historically accurate or do Chinese filmmakers simply paint a bad picture around white foreigners in particular?
Forgive my ignorance as I'm not really up to speed on Chinese history and culture. I only specified British people because a majority of the Chinese films I watch often portray a British person acting like this, but I've seem some American cameos here and there.
I also searched online for an explanation on this and I literally couldn't find one answer to this question surprisingly.

I’ve been trying to find this for days. A horror/sci fi movie or scene from a movie
I saw a similar type of post a few hours ago so I hope this is allowed. I’ve been looking for this everywhere and I’m losing my mind over it. I can remember this so clearly but I can’t find anything about it anywhere... it’s literally like it never existed.
The scene that I remember is a group of people, older teens or young adults, sneak into the woods near an off limits facility to see what is going on inside. The woods are very dense and gives off that blue/green hue when the canopy is blocking direct sunlight. They have to find their way through a chain linked fence into either the area around a science lab or a military base. I think it’s near a dam or other large cement wall.
As they’re going through the area, a portal/force field type thing appears in front of them. One of the guys put his arm through it. When he takes it back out, the part of his arm that had gone through the portal was gone. The portal was a bright blue, not aquamarine but maybe cerulean in shade.
They sneak into this area not thinking anything is going to happen, just kind of looking around. I believe there had been rumors about what was going on and vaguely recall something about secret weapons or technology being created or used. I’m almost positive one of them was recording, I think it was the girl—i believe in the lighting her hair was mostly brown but I could tell it was kind of red as well. I know that the person who lost their arm is a guy, I know he had brown hair, he was young— maybe a young adult playing a teen character or the character themselves would have been a young adult. No facial hair— if anything it was stubble. I think he had a dark blueish (or other deep cool color) hoodie/jumper on, it didn’t have a hood and it wasn’t zip up, something like a plain north face. Other than the guy who loses his arm and the girl who I think was recording, I think there was only one other person, maaaybe two. I think the other person was also a guy, I believe blonde hair or at least lighter in shade than the guy who loses his arm. He was one of those goofball comedic characters, he was joking around with dark haired guy telling him to touch the portal or whatever whereas the girl was like no I don’t think we should mess with that. Dark haired guy wanting to impress chadbro and the girl puts his arm through the portal, takes it back out and is like “see I’m fine” and then realizes his arm is gone and all hell breaks loose. Also, the characters are conventionally attractive per Hollywood standards, they were all fit and not chubby or out of shape, not super ripped either though. I’m pretty sure they were all white and they didn’t have any other accent than American if that does count as an accent.
It wasn’t about aliens, it was more so about the military base or lab hiding what they were working on and this group of people wanted to find out and expose them/get fame from finding it out.
I could be wrong, but I think it would have been part of a horror anthology series or found footage, it might have been a short web series or something of that nature though. Around the timeframe I saw it was when Crypt TV had like 3 episodes of the Look-See out; I looked through the videos on their YouTube but couldn’t find the scene I was looking for, but the timeframe would have been mid to late 2017-early 2018 that I had seen it and it didn’t seem super dated so it wouldn’t be much older than that as far as I’m aware.
I am almost positive it was not a full length film, which led me to believe it would have been anthology/found footage or a short horror film. Also, when I say found footage, the production quality was good and shot on good out of scene cameras, but the characters had a camcorder and were recording—perhaps it isn’t the best label. It was probably around 10 minutes long, definitely no more than thirty. I’ve also looked through episodes of Fringe (the fox TV show) because it was right around that same timeframe that I started rewatching that— there’s a similar scene when kids let loose lab animals that have been experimented on which I vaguely remembered, plus one of the characters seen pretty often, Nina Sharp, has a robotic arm after losing it trying to stop Walter from jumping through a portal from one timeline to another; but it is not either of these. Another reason I keep thinking fringe is essentially the same reason I think it was part of an anthology is at the beginning of fringe episodes it always had a backstory or dramatic scene showing a death or monster or whatever and then goes into the plot for the main part of the episode, fixing whatever the scene in the beginning showed. For this scene, though, I don’t think there was a big backstory or something being fixed or these people being saved; it was them sneaking into the area, joking around, the portal shows up or they find it, dudebro “dares” brown haired guy to put his arm through, he knows brown haired guy has a thing for the lady and knows he’ll do it to impress her, brown hair does it, arm is removed and they panic, and honestly I think he lays down and dies in the forest or at least passes out and that’s it, it switched to a different storyline or just ended. I don’t think there was any real resolution.
It could have been on YouTube, Facebook, netflix, or I could have looked it up after finding it in a list on cracked or ranked and found it online somewhere. At this point it just seems like it never existed and it’s literally driving me mad, especially when a) the storyline of dude trying to impress girl and dying is pretty popular in horror and b) I can see it so clearly in my head.
Also, this is NOT Area 51, The Ritual, or Cabin in the Woods. It’s incredibly likely that it was obscure or not super popular because I was into that kind of thing for a while (shows that weren’t as popular as they should have been or underrated movies, random ass horror movies on Netflix, etc.)
If anyone has any ideas please please please help. I’ve searched every keyword I can think of and am getting nowhere and it’s killing me. Even if you just have a better sub for me to post this on (I’ve tried r/tipofmytongue and r/horror but if you have one that would fit this question please PLEASE send it my way)

The Departed
I’ll start of by saying that was insane. I was expecting great things from the legendary Scorsese and I was not disappointed. Scorsese’s use of short dramatic scenes was perfect for the unpredictable nature of the plot. Unpredictable is the perfect word. I had no idea what was going to happen at any point and kept me guessing right up to the end. Then we come to the star studded cast who in my opinion were just right for the characters they portrayed. The stand out performers were (predictably) DiCaprio and Nicholson who as usual you couldn’t take your eyes off for a second. Mark Wahlberg’s performance was surprisingly entertaining and good quality as I am used to seeing him in light hearted comedies but he brought just the right amount of his signature humour and attitude to the part. If I had one criticism despite the short scenes being very effective in terms of unpredictability it also reduced the screen time of some of the more minor characters that I would have liked to seen developed. Overall it was another hit from the king of gang films and the ending is mind blowing. A must watch 9/10

Trainspotting
I am never ever doing heroin. There was controversy at the time over this film glorifying hard drug use but I think it’s a pretty effective counter measure. The withdrawal symptoms are portrayed horrifyingly vividly by McGregor. Combined with Boyle’s fantastic use of camera angles it makes it my favourite part of the film. Apart from this there’s much to be admired. With a budget of just £1.5 million and shooting only lasting 35 days Boyle has performed a miracle. Most scenes were shot in one take as they just didn’t have the funds. This explains the film being slightly rough around the edges but still has managed to become highly acclaimed all around the world. Ewan McGregor was always Boyle’s first choice to play Renton and his performance explains why, he is clearly completely dedicated to the role in the film especially as he lost 26 pounds in 2 months to gain the required physique of an addict. At first I could barely recognise him. I also enjoyed the soundtrack very much, fitting the tone of the film perfectly. The treasure trove of pop culture references for the observant viewer to notice were a subtle but welcome reference to the film’s distinctly British background. The film’s make-do approach to filming scenes does add a certain charm to the film however does add the few issues I have with the film. Some scenes are a little too rough and could have benefitted from a touch more care and consideration especially with a few of the side characters. Despite its faults I would recommend this to anyone and is a superb piece of cinema. 8/10

T2 Trainspotting
Sometimes with sequels I get a strong sense that they are forced and the link between the first great film and the second is tenuous and unnecessary. I just wish they would leave these great films alone but they’re after more money. In the case of T2 I am happy to say that it does not feel forced and they left a good amount of time between them so as to allow character development to be shown clearly. This development is written very well by Boyle with the main characters retaining their interesting personality traits but adding another dimension preventing boredom from setting into viewers. The film focuses much more heavily on each individual in the group of main characters which I think was the right choice as McGregor’s character loses some of his interest as he is no longer a crackhead. The exploration of the others allows Ewen Bremner to shine as Spud, he was the stand out performer in the film creating a truly likeable character that I sympathised with. Boyle used the same distinctive style of cinematography as the first film that creates a nice aesthetic. However this does not work as well as in the first film because of the modern setting. It’s chaotic nature worked much better in the poverty stricken streets of 90s Edinburgh. The film’s soundtrack had a lot to live up to and sadly (but unsurprisingly) failed. I’d say you should definitely watch this after Trainspotting as it does a good job of tying up the story however it invites much comparison between the two making it difficult to judge it as just as good. 7.5/10

Reservoir Dogs
I’ve watched this film many times and I’m still not bored of it. I love Tarantino and his first film is one of his best. The film is a directorial masterclass. I’ve been told it’s a movie used in A-Level Film Studies and I’m not surprised due to the perfect examples of camera shots such as handheld shots and point of view shots (Tarantino’s trademark view out of a car boot). These really add to the sense that you are there watching the action. The story is extremely compelling and the first time you watch it it definitely has the most effect. The use of flashbacks to tell the story focussing on one character at a time is very enjoyable and provides a good way of building the story up without giving away the big reveal. They also allow humour to be added to the film without breaking the tension in the warehouse. Tarantino chose to link scenes together uniquely with extracts from ‘K-Billy’s sounds of the 70s’ which are especially effective as they contrast the brutal content of the scenes. The best example of this is the scene which features Michael Madsen as Mr Blonde dancing to Stuck in the Middle with You while torturing a cop, one of the most brutal but best scenes. Tarantino has stated he was inspired by some of the best heist movies ever made despite his film not even involving the actual diamond heist due to lack of budget. Tim Roth as Mr Orange puts in a great performance clearly showing why he became a Tarantino regular. The Commode monologue and the scene in the car after he’s been shot are fantastically acted, the pain and panic seems genuine. As expected Harvey Keitel is also fantastic as Mr White, better even than he is in Pulp Fiction I’d say which is an impressive feat. In fact all the dogs are great (even Tarantino himself I think puts in a decent performance for once as Mr Brown). Then we come to the final scene which I’m not going to say anything about except it’s the perfect culmination to a brilliant movie that will blow you away. 9.5/10

Pulp Fiction
The strength of the film is best characterised, I believe, by the conversation between Vincent and Jules in the car about the Royale with Cheese. A conversation about such ordinary subject matter can still be that interesting, being one of my favourite scenes, demonstrates how strong the acting and directing is. The aesthetic of the film is very appealing with a bright colour palette imitating the comics that Tarantino has stated were his inspiration. The soundtrack is excellent as is expected from a Tarantino film. The several different stories all happening in the same time frame are equally as captivating as each other meaning the viewer gets gripped by one then immediately by another. Tarantino’s most crucial directorial decision is not having the film in chronological order. In my opinion this is the key point that separates Pulp Fiction from other gangster films making it entirely unique in 1994. This choice allows Tarantino to maximise the emotional involvement of viewers in the story and Jules’ character arc as he would leave the story very uneventfully if it was in chronological order. Tarantino uses many close up shots on key characters’ faces which helps accentuate the facial expressions that are so important for the actors to get what they are trying to convey about the character across to viewers. The acting overall in this movie is of the very highest quality helping it achieve the widespread acclaim it has done. Someone who I had never really noticed before in previous viewings was Ving Rhames as Marcellus Wallace who despite very limited screen time made a large impact with his speech to Butch and Zed being very effective and an underrated moment. Before this film John Travolta’s career had taken a nosedive but his excellent performance as Vincent surprised everyone deservedly earning an Oscar nomination for Best Leading Actor. Then of course you have Samuel L. Jackson, who’s monologue is one of the most famous ever performed. He too deservedly gained an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Bruce Willis also puts in a career high performance as Butch. Tarantino himself was practically the only bad performer as Jimmy. You also see the first piece of evidence for Tarantino’s infamous foot fetish. Overall it’s lives up to its considerably large hype and is definitely a film that anyone should watch. One of the best films ever made. 10/10

Back in college there were a couple of occasions where I would be dancing with girls at parties in the dark basements of frat houses . Two instances I just randomly started dancing with these 2 different girls from behind and we got to grinding with each other . After dancing for a little while I made a move to kiss both of them from the side because I was behind them still dancing . One made out with me for a little and the other only for a second and than stopped . I didn’t even see their faces or remember how the rest of the night went but I know there weren’t any problems I’m just feeling paranoid I made them feel uncomfortable or I came on too strong that’s the last thing I would want to do to someone .

How do I successfully have a nap?
It sounds dumb, but whenever I try to have a casual nap either I’m not tired enough, and I can’t get to sleep, or, when I am tired enough to sleep, I’ll wake up ten hours later with a full nights rest at 10:30 PM, with my entire sleep schedule fucked for the coming week (regardless of alarms).
Is there some secret trick to having a nice light doze? I feel like I’m missing something...

Minority Report is scary accurate for being ~20years old
It was released in 2002, and I remember watching it when I was much younger and then the concepts were comprehensible, but seemed somewhat far fetched at the time.
Now, watching it as an adult, and given the world we live in today, the movie is eerily accurate in regards to technology and law enforcement. Obviously, our reality is lacking the anomaly of the Twins, but with the progression in AI and surveillance (gotta love the Patriot Act) it gives me chills knowing that the writers of this film so accurately projected a realistic future of what life could look like for the year 2054.
The scene that has always stuck out to me was when the spiders are released into the apartment complex by the police to locate Tom Cruise and they reach the arguing couple who stop screaming at each other mid-sentence to allow the spiders to scan their retina, then continue the brawl like nothing happened. I could see something similar becoming a part of our “normal” life in the future.
The film is almost 20 years old, and were basically half way to 2054. I’d wager the odds of us ending up in a similar society aren’t too far off.
Creepy stuff.

Thoughts on Donnie Darko
May contain spoilers for Donnie Darko
I have a little game I like to play from time to time, I google 'plot twist movies', pick one and then I watch it and see how fast can I guess the twist. But this movie, oh boy! It was just so engaging, I tried putting the pieces together on the go but I just couldn't seem to do it. I was watching it and as the end started approaching, I was just getting ready to be blown away by the explanation and how everything fit together... But that never happened and that was really a surprise. It isn't like one of those movies where the directors and writers don't know how to end the thing so they just leave it on the cliffhanger and say: 'Well you better focus on the message we want you to interpret and it is better to have your own satisfying ending in your hand than our non existent one'. The pieces were there, they just didn't click.
Of course, after the movie ended, I rushed to my phone to read the full explanation and it was so freaking amazing, but in the end, that's the movie's job to explain and I really felt like they failed to do it properly (the critics agree with me). Don't get me wrong, even with a lot of loose ends, the movie had an amazing reception, 8 IMDb and 87% Rotten Tomatoes but it just couldn't nail the explanation and that is what I can't get over it. The reasons behind everything are like Shutter Island with Inception wraped in Memento and then sprinkled with Interstelar, like honestly, it could have been actually so better than Intersellar is. I wonder what are your thoughts on the movie?
The second reason I am making this post and conveniently mentioning a lot of Cristopher Nolan movies might be kinda dumb but... Is there any way to get a petition going to remake this movie, preferably by Nolan? Or any way to be heard at all? Because I really think this movie could be on the Shawshank Redemption type of level, not joking. Yes there are some questionable and shady things, like Donnie's superpowers, but it could still be great.
Nevertheless, crazy ideas aside, what do you guys think about Donnie Darko and its kinda wasted potential?
PS: Sorry for the formatting, I'm on mobile

What films feature a character in every scene throughout?
I'm watching the movie Reddit just absolutely fucked up, Rampart, and the IMDB trivia says Woody Harrellson is in every single scene of the movie and that got me thinking. I couldn't think of any other movies that feature one character throughout off the top of my head so I wanted to turn to Reddit. What are some other movies that have a character or characters present throughout every sequence?

My god, it was a zombie movie. It would be one thing if it was trying to be a historically accurate movie, but it wasn’t. I don’t see how you can complain about there being diversity in the movie, which by itself is fantasy (zombies). If it was say, supposed to be a realistic depiction of operation overlord I’d be pissed off too, but it wasn’t

The fact that HBO will spend $20-30 million on the Snyder should bother the members of this sub
I’ll just get this out of the way at the top — I like Zach Snyder. I’ve liked a few of his movies, including Watchmen, and he seems like a nice dude. Like many of you, I was really excited to see Justice League when it came out and was pretty disappointed with the results. It sucks that Snyder never got to finish the film because of a family tragedy and I’m glad that he, and the fans, are getting his version of Justice League. I’m also aware that lots of people liked the movie upon it’s premier, which again, that’s great! I hope the recut version heightens that experience for you.
But…
What does it say about the movie business when HBO is willing to throw $20-30 million dollars at a largely unsuccessful comic book movie?
DC’s cinematic universe has all but fallen apart in the wake of this Justice League. Aquaman did well at the box office and has a fair share of fans, but I wouldn’t say it’s considered in even the top half of this era of superhero movies. Not that she can’t be recast, but Amber Heard is second on that call sheet for that franchise.
Wonder Woman did great critically and commercially, but that was before this movie undercut most of the momentum WW gave the series following Batman v Superman — I don’t believe there’s any cogent defense that can be made for BvS, even the extended cut. There’s issues with BvS that I will never be able to work around. I think it has plenty of solid elements and good incarnations of Superman and Bruce Wayne, but otherwise is a complete mess.
Ben Affleck has been pretty clear about not playing Batman again. And it sounds like Henry Cavill needs a few dump trucks of money wheeled up to his house to be in for another DC adventure — which I’m sure will happen, but still I think fans should be concerned that the role that gave Cavill his career is a complete turn off to him by this point.
There’s also a general franchise fatigue that’s set in since Endgame. Whether you’re talking about Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Jurassic World, etc… People are increasingly weary of the nonstop retreads in these series. It’s impossible to say what box office numbers would have been for any of these films this year, so I’m more referring to what I see on this sub and other film discussion forums.
But here’s my point — $20-30 million dollars is going to make a new cut of Justice League, and not going to a movie, or multiple movies, that are original and possibly better. And the fact that HBO is the one handing out this money, having been one of the steadfast spots for high end original content for decades before the last few years, concerns me even more.
Let’s just be honest with ourselves — Justice League was not $30 million dollars away from being a really great movie. I’m not gonna say “you can’t polish a turd” cause I don’t think the movie is turd-level bad… And this isn’t even really about Justice League — I’d be concerned about this no matter what movie was in question.
In a world where fewer and fewer original stories make their way to the public, the fact that HBO is willing to spend this amount of money on a mediocre film, in a dead end franchise, while they already face down criticism for shallow storytelling that heavy on spectacle, is concerning. I get that they have to figure out how to get people on to HBO Max, but hey, idk, maybe spend that money making some original movies or shows that will actually add to the cultural conversation.
I think Snyder’s statement on the matter sums my thoughts pretty well, except for that fact that he’s talking about a wholly corporate product that added very little to it’s source material or film in general: “I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized…”
There’s nothing brave about throwing $30 million more dollars at a movie that already cost $300 million to make. That’s literally the opposite of bravery. It would be brave to find young, talented, undiscovered voices that offer something new to cinema.
What could possibly be added to the conversation by doing this? Even if the Snyder cut is the new Citizen Kane, then what? We get a new cut of The Rise of Skywalker? 8-part miniseries cut of Dark Phoenix? Where’s it end?
This is just bad for movies. It’s bad for the movie business and sets a bad precedent moving forward, as far as original content is concerned. The obsession with recycling content within this industry has never been more brazen and at this point we’re all just munching on member-berries.
Thanks for letting me vent.
TLDR: it’s great that DC fans will get to see the movie Snyder intended to make, but the big losers here are smaller/original movies that are increasingly hard to come by.

What type of protagonist do you personally like in a movie?
I would have to go with the anti-hero. I personally feel like an anti-hero character as a relatable aspect that some heroes and villains lack. I personally think that the best characters in movies and television shows are anti-heroes, such as Walter White, Bojack Horseman, Deadpool, Tony Soprano, Venom, Vito Corleone, Travis Bikcle, Wolverine, etc. Anyways, if you guys have an opinion, please vote and comment down below.

Céline Sciamma has a perfect filmography
Of course, a lot of people share the opinion that Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a masterful work of cinema and I love it. I have a habit of seeking out other works a director/writer has done if I have never heard of them before and I come across one of their works. I had not heard of Sciamma before Portrait of a Lady on Fire. I have since watched all four of her director/writer films.
When it comes to a director who knows how to handle real human stories in a minimalist light that does not dampen the visual appeal, she is basically unrivalled, in my opinion. The premise to most of her films is often so day-to-day; one ordinary person desires another ordinary person or thing, and this is what they'll do to get it. And yet they always develop into moments so filled with tension that I feel my knuckles going white just because of the pauses in conversation when I am screaming for something to be said. She handles conversation and the framing of those conversational moments with such precision that it often feels like a game of conversational chess and it is riveting.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire is my favourite of them, so far, because it feels like a culmination of everything she was cultivating in her previous efforts.
Tomboy is second because it had three particular sequences which made me want to curl into myself with tension.
Water Lilies follows because I really love Adele and coming-of-age stories.
Girlhood is also great, and is one of her more visually indulgent films to date.
There are so few directors where I can find myself doing four films and being floored by something in all of them. Sciamma is to dramas what people see Fincher as to thrillers.

How can I legally host a synchronized movie party?
I want to host a remote-synchronized movie party to allow my 6 co-workers to watch The Princess Bride together. I'm quite happy to pay the rental fee for each of the six, if that's what it takes. But it has to be easy.
TwoSeven might work, but the only streaming service that has it is Starz, and it's not realistic to require them all to subscribe and unsubscribe to the service (and in the case of those that have already used their trial, to submit an expense claim) just for this one event. They would all be happy to download an mp4 and use Syncplay.pl, but I can't think of any way to do it legally.
Any suggestions?

Please tell me the name of this movie
I watched a captivating film years upon years ago, and for the life of me I can't remember the name. I remember so little. A scene with a hot air balloon, and then everything gets sucked into black and the quote spoken by a young girl "its over, she won" or something along those lines, there's also a scene where the main protagonist (at least I think she is the main protagonist) is under some sort of mind control, and one of her friends comes along and throws a ball to her, she catches it and throws it back, the same thing happens a few times and she looks like she's starting to have fun then she recoils or something and she regains control. I think her eyes were black im not sure. This has been eating away at me for years. Please help

In a lot of movies, characters tend to casually walk up to a bar and the bartender asks "what're you having?". Their response every time? "I'll take a beer". Then the bartender hands them a beer. This isn't realistic.

Wow. Just watched my first ever western, Hang ‘Em High, and I was truly blown away. From the music, to the action, to the great story, I was glued to my seat from start to finish.

Muppet Pulp Fiction
Yesterday my brother shared this image with me with the caption "Pick a movie. Keep One Actor. The Rest are Muppets." As a joke I responded, "Pulp Fiction with Steve Buscemi" becuase I want to see Muppet Pulp Fiction. After an in depth discussion, this is the cast we decided on:
Character | Actor | Muppet |
---|---|---|
Vincent Vega | John Travolta | Kermit |
Jules Winnfield | Samuel L. Jackson | Fozzie |
Mia Wallace | Uma Thurman | Miss Piggie |
Winston Wolfe | Harvey Keitel | Sam the Eagle |
Ringo/"Pumpkin" | Tim Roth | Floyd Pepper |
Yolanda/"Honey Bunny" | Amanda Plummer | Janice |
Butch Collidge | Bruce Willis | Gonzo |
Fabienne (Butch's Girlfriend) | Maria de Medeiros | Camilla |
Marsellus Wallace | Ving Rhames | Dr. Teeth/Sweetums |
Lance (Drug dealer) | Eric Stoltz | Dr. Bunsen Honeydew |
Jody (Lance's Wife) | Rosanna Arquette | Skeeter |
Captain Koons | Christopher Walken | Rizzo the Rat |
Marvin | Phil Lamarr | Beeker |
Jimmy | Quentin Tarantino | Scooter |
Maynard (Redneck) | Duane Whitaker | Lew Zealand |
Zed (Cop) | Peter Greene | Animal |
The Gimp | Stephen Hibbert | Swedish Chef |
Brett (What Guy) | Frank Whaley | Pepe The King Prawn |
Roger (Flock of Seagulls) | Burr Steers | Zoot |
Buddy Holly | Steve Buscemi | Steve Buscemi |
All other extras | Various | Various Semsame Street Characters |
Vincent Vega - Kermit
This one seems obvious but I wasn't sure at first. My initial thought was Gonzo and Rizzo for Vincent and Jules, but my brother convinced me otherwise. Also, we all now Kermit has killer dance moves.
Jules Winnfield - Fozzie
I want to see Fozzie play it straight. How many great comedians have you seen play amazing dramatic roles. I can just imagine Fozzie saying "And you will know my name is the lord, as I lay my vengeance upon you." And as he pulls the trigger, Wokka Wokka.
Mia Wallace - Miss Piggie
If Kermit is Vincent, Miss Piggie has to be Mia.
"Pumpkin" and "Honey Bunny" - Floyd Pepper and Janice
I think it's pretty clear if the music business didn't work out for Floyd and Janice, they may have turned to some dubious activities.
Brett, Roger, and Marvin - Pepe The King Prawn, Zoot, and Beeker
I would love to hear Pepe's go "I say What, ok" over and over to Fozzie's "Say what again" and Zoot would be perfect quiet on the couch. Beeker has always been the puppet who took the worst beatings. It only seems fair that he gets his head blown off accidentally by Kermit.
Jimmy - Skeeter
Always one of the more mild mannered Muppets, it makes sense to me that Skeeter would be anxious about his wife finding out about a dead body in his garage. It would be a bit strange hearing him say the N-word over and over again.
Winston Wolfe - Sam the Eagle
We all know that Sam is a no nonsense business man. He would know how to clean up a mess.
Lance and Jody - Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Skeeter
As it seems most of these castings are "What would happen if their life went terribly wrong", why not have Dr. Honeydew go full Walter White and turn to selling drugs. For Skeeter, she kinda has a dark side. In full honesty, we started running out of female Muppets, so this could be up for debate.
Butch and Fabienne - Gonzo and Camilla
Gonzo is a masochist. He may not be a good boxer, but I'm sure he could take a punch and out last anyone ala Rocky 3. And where would Gonzo be without his Camilla.
Captain Koon - Rizzo the Rat
A perfect character to talk about sticking a watch up a rear end. One of the best characters at breaking the fourth wall, I can only imagine what he would say about this situation.
Marsellus Wallace - Dr. Teeth/Sweetums
This one we never really nailed down. Dr. Teeth would be great. His vernacular would add some pizzazz to the character. Sweetums however would be far more intimidating. I can't help but get laugh at the image of Sweetums getting hit by Gonzo in a car, so I think he has my vote.
Maynard, Zed, The Gimp - Lew Zealand, Animal, The Swedish Chef
Lew and Animal would be a fun zanny combo for this part. Lew could hold them at fish point and Animal... well he's Animal. The real star here is the Swedish Chef in a full leather body suit. That is the fuel of nightmares and some odd fetishes.
Buddy Holly - Steve Buscemi
All Muppets movies need at least one human actor, and who better than Steve Buscemi to reprise his role. Muppet movies have a track record of having great actors in them, and who is greater then Mr. Buscemi
Extras - Various Sesame Street Characters
To tie everything together, we need some anything characters. Ernie, Telly, Guy Smiley, you name it, we got it.
So yeah. We're a bunch of nerds who love the Muppets. This started out as a dumb joke, but I enjoyed thinking about who would play what character best.
Edit: Grammar

John Henry is abysmally boring. Haven’t seen a movie this rotten in a good, long while.
JEEEEEZUS. What a boring, BORING, BORRRRRRING movie where absolutely nothing happens.
If you like...
-musical interludes that go nowhere
-flashbacks that go nowhere
-whole improvised monologues about Human centipede that go nowhere
-setups for awesome fight scenes that never happen
-cutaways when something cool is about to happen
-sound and obvious ADR instead of you know, actually SHOWING US SOMETHING
Then by all means, watch John Henry.
I’ve never seen a movie so actively cop out from every opportunity to deliver something entertaining. Big fight scene coming? Nope. Epic rampage about to pop off? Nah. Big conflict between our hero and villain complete with audience, weapons, and a torch? Psssh. Let’s just cut to nothing. The director should be embarrassed.

Is it ok for restaurants to give leftover food of a customer to other customers if both parties agree?
If this is the case, fuck paying a bill, I’m gonna be walking around asking other diners for their leftovers if they don’t want to take it home. Otherwise it just goes in the trash. I would just be doing everyone a favor right?

This a scam?
So I opened up my Reddit app, and a notification thing popped up on my screen on the main timeline or whatever, that said "You've hit 1000 karma" or something and "brag about it". It had the icons for Gmail and such on the bottom. I hit dismiss on the bottom of it.
Any idea what the heck it was? I've been well over 1k for awhile, as well as having a comment over that, also for awhile now.

I am what many would call the "other child".
My mom had a kid(me) with another man, kept me, and treats me like shit only giving me the smallest dire things, minimal clothing, extra things(in the past toys, and now things that I need for things like band or such) I'm 17 and she won't allow me to get a job, won't allow me to go out(like we can now but not the point). I'm trying to make money so I can get what I want/need, and have enough money so as soon as I graduate next year, I can move out.

Drive (2011) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) are the same movie (Spoilers for both)
I’ve seen similarities pointed out before, but I wanted to do a full breakdown because they are really really really similar.
The movie is a neo-noir film, released in the 2010s. The film takes place in Los Angeles stars Ryan Gosling as a quiet, introverted, socially isolated loner who wears a cool jacket and drives a cool car. He has a girlfriend, but the relationship’s off somehow. Circumstances are keeping them apart. Maybe it’s something about them, maybe it’s something about the world they live in. Gosling plays an important role in his industry: he’s disposable, a replacement. He does the dangerous work so the important people don’t have to. All the same, he’s motivated to be more than what others see him as. He explores the darker underbelly of society, exploring the secrets that lie beneath the surface. Along the way, he becomes affiliated with a man with a dark past. The man is played by someone best known for playing a cocky, hotshot Star Wars pilot, but in this movie, they’re playing a much darker and more depressing role than what they’re usually associated with. The man has a child who Gosling feels the need to protect. He goes rogue, going against his mentor’s advice and forging his own path to achieve his goals. Partially through the film, an antagonist is revealed who is discovered to be much more dangerous than they were initially assumed to be. This antagonist is associated with a powerful group of people who essentially hold most of the power in Los Angeles. The antagonist tries to find Gosling, and goes to Gosling’s mentor to obtain information of his whereabouts. The mentor refuses, so the antagonist mortally wounds them with a blade. Ryan Gosling, filled with purpose, rams an enemy’s car and, after a struggle, drowns them. Ryan Gosling understands his relationship with his girlfriend was doomed from the start, but finds comfort in the fact that he was at least able to protect the child and grant them safety, against the demands of others. Unfortunately, he suffered a knife wound to the stomach from the antagonist before he killed them, so he sits down, leans back, and stares off into the sky, leaving the audience in the dark as to his fate.

Can you help me find these two movies? It would help my brain.
Man There was a movie that came out in the early 2000’s. I want to say it was a family drama movie with some humour. Christmas, winter, snow vibe in the the trailer. The only scene I remember is an adult & a child playing doubles pool together. This was shown in the trailer & I’ve never been able to track this movies name down to watch.
The other movie I’m trying to find out has a scene very early on in the movie where the main character hits a guys trash cans with his car & a guy runs out to the street & starts swearing for what seemed like several minutes. The man looked like the guy Garth electrocuted in Wayne’s World.
These movies are all from the early 2000’s. Thank you.

What is the name of this old animated movie?
So, this is an old cartoon. There's a man with a dog, and they meet this woman with a dog. The man is young, has a pipe, and I think they're in a European country like France or Italy. And I believe he works as a writer perhaps, or I might be wrong about that one. The dog is the one who pulls the man to interact with the woman, maybe because he wants to get closer to her dog, or maybe because he sees the man as being too lonely. Honestly the woman might have not even owned a dog and I might just be remembering things wrong. Please help.

Movie lines that flew over your head as a kid (or any other time).
Currently in the middle of watching War Games for the first time since seeing it as a kid in the '80s when the following dialogue almost made me spit out my drink (Jennifer and David discussing the death of Professor Falken):
Jennifer: He wasn't very old, was he?
David: Oh, he was pretty old. He was 41.
Jennifer: Wow, that is old.
Obviously, a joke on kids not understanding what 'old' is. And a good one, as I didn't think twice about those lines at the time. But now being a bit older than 41 that joke really hit home hard. ;)

Would you treat somebody differently if they told you one of their parents had been to prison?
Please be honest, I’m curious and won’t judge if you say yes.
If a person told you one of their parents had been to prison, would you be a bit more on your guard? A bit more cautious? I’ve read many times that crime can run in families so I’m wondering if people outside of studies actually take that research to heart.
