I think creating a Cthulhu/Lovecraftian world would make a lot of money
I have so many ideas for ways you could make a movie around the Cthuhulhu Mtyhos/Lovecraftian style that I couldn't possibly list them off on this post.
One of the most simple, ways I currently can think, of where, Cthulhu could be introduced is in Pirates of the Caribbean, but that's probably never gonna happen now that the franchise is gonna die without Johnny Depp.
So what do you guys think of a Lovecraftian style movie?
Cause I really like the thought of and really artsy movie based around the Lovecraftian genre about the thought of the meaning of human existence and that Lovecraftian horror gives the thought that God doesn't exist or we all as humans really don't have reason to exist, that we are all just ants waiting to die.
Became a little bit too EMO at the end there lol
But again what are you're thoughts?

Movie Talk Day 8: What are your favorite films based on books? What book would you like to see made into a film?
I thought it would be fun to start some discussions from a family card game, Movie Talk, which I never got to play with my family. The seventh card I pulled said:
“Many movies are based on books. Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code starred Tom Hanks. Babe was based on Dick King-Smith’s book Babe the Gallant Pig. Frank Herbert’s Dune was made into a film twenty years after the book was published.
What are you favorite films based on books? What book would you like to see made into a film?”
There are a lot of movies made based on books that I love, so this was a pretty hard list to narrow down for myself. I was able to narrow it down to two that I love for different reasons.
When I think of the most literal translation of a book to film adaptation, my favorite example is the movie Holes. I think the main reason this adaptation works so well, and translates so directly is because Louis Sachar wrote both the novel and the screenplay. There are some things here and there that are different, but for the most part they’re very similar. I also have a pretty special place for this movie in my heart. I love all of the actors in it and I still have the whole D Tent Rap from the end credits memorized.
What I would probably call the best film adaptation of a novel is Jurassic Park. I may be speaking from a bias, because I read the book after I watched the movie, but I think the film adaptation of Jurassic Park surpasses the novel. The novel is amazing, but I like the characterizations from the movie better. But I do wish we had gotten to see the river raft scene with the T Rex in the movie. Oh well. Maybe next Jurassic Park movie.
Honorable mentions: The Harry Potter movies always meant a lot to me when I was younger, and they still do. I think they’re some pretty great adaptations, but I haven’t read the books past 4, so I can’t really speak on the rest. Let the Right One In is also a great movie adapted from a book.
As for a book I would like to see adapted into a movie, when I was a kid Nancy Farmer’s The House of the Scorpion was always my favorite book, and I would like to see it done justice on screen.
TLDR: What are your favorite films based on books? What book would you like to see made into a film?

Why do real life criminals get movies made about them?
I feel someone needs to make this point out cause maybe the film and tv business will see it and get a reality check. But why are these real life criminals getting shows and movies still made about them?, why would they deserve this attention? Like I cant tell you how many adaptations of charles manson and hitler I've heard about and I just dont get it, its like paying tribute to real life evil. Its one thing for fictional killer like freddy krueger or something but a real life killer made into a story to make money is not entertainment and to think there are people with original fictional ideas and people more deserving, it just makes the system look embarrassing to me. Plus I dont think these types of films and shows make a ton of money anyways so what is the logic hollywood or whomever, what is their logic to make these stories? Like I think even documentaries are too much exposure unless its meant to educate or reveal the criminal was innocent, something like that.

Help anyone? input
I checked my Google security today and found out that an unknown device was synced to my google account. It was recent (July 26), and has been synced since MAY 12 (even though I changed my password May 1 because I had previously had issues w/ randos logging into my accounts whether social media, etc.). It is listed as “Apple iPhone”–no name (unusual because iPhone owners usually have names for their Apple accounts), it did not list what type of device (it does for mine, AND what I thought was weird was when I reversed the IP address it was from the same city I’m in, on a street maybe 10 minutes away from me. !!So I’m wondering is this a glitch or did someone actually have my info…?? btw I have signed them out and set up 2factor authentication, reset pw too. The Revenant - the story of soul searching - who am I?
Background: I found the following text from a document from my computer as I was going through some old files. I had written this after seeing the movie in 2015, but had zero recollection I've done it. Thought I’d share this here. I cannot claim that I even remember to movie at this point well. Maybe someone could point out if I was on a trip myself or does this make any sense in any part?
The Revenant certainly stands as it is, without any weird metaphor like explanations. Yet I couldn't help stop thinking that maybe Iñárritu had a hidden meaning here as well, considering how Birdman was...
Now I understand that some people will just shout out "NO!" or "What difference does it make?" To me the most interesting pieces of art, no matter the media, are those that can be defined in multiple ways, as long as they're logical and actually make sense.
So here's what I thought. This contains spoilers.
The Revenant is a film about the thought process of a dying man. Everything that the audience sees in the film, not just the "dreamy portions", are product of Glass's subconsciousness trying to show how to let go - how to die in peace. And to reach that peace, Glass had to know what kind of a man he really was. What was depicted on the screen, was Glass's soul searching - the willingness to encounter oneself. His greatest enemy was similar to many others - his selfishness, Fitzgerald.
Opening scene
We see Glass sleeping peacefully with his young son and lady. Glass narrates the scene in the native tongue with whispers.
We don't know anything about Glass's history, except that he was living with the Pawnee indians and had a son with his mother. Later on in the movie the audience finds out something that was never shown on the screen - did Glass really shoot the lieutenant? The reason why I am linking these together is that the premise of the movie is about something that was never shown. Did the soldiers come to burn the Pawnee village, but Glass shot a lieutenant, yet years later is hired to help on an expedition years later? Or did he instead die defending the village? It really doesn't matter if the lieutenant was shot or not in the end.
The last whispers in the narrative are: "As long as you can grab a breath, you fight. You breathe...Keep breathing.
The dreamlike sequence focuses on losing something and holding on as long as you can.
So humor me for a while and agree that Glass was actually killed/mortally wounded before the movie even begins. The trip to Glass's subconsciousness begins. His mind is attempting to make sense of "who am I?"
15-20 years later, the camp attack and escape
Glass looks the same age he did in the opening scene. He's trying to help "his people" with his half-breed son, but chaos ensues as the Native indians attack the camp. There's two different people - whites and the indians. Which is his? His mind is conflicted and trying to make sense of it all. He's been a caucasian since his birth, yet started a life with the Native indians. Maybe his mind is going through the process of life if he wouldn't have died? Could this have happened, would I have been torn eventually by the two cultures?
We see various people around glass with different qualities and emotions. Leadership. Fear. Rage. Panic. They're all part of Glass, manifestations of his mind. Eventually the mind wanders from the chaos to more peaceful place.
Enter the river boat transition. The crew is conflicted if they should stay on the boat or not.
And so is the mind. Should one stay in the momentary sanctuary now that the chaos is behind? No, that wouldn't solve anything in the end. Sooner or later the chaos would be back. So the thought process progresses. It's instead time to face what lies ahead, to finally encounter oneself. Goodbye known comfort zone, the personality the mind thought he was, behind. And so the pelts are buried in the movie, yet the most selfish part of the mind, the greedy Fitzgerald, wants to hold on.
Glass acts aggressively towards his son, saying that the others only see the color of his skin.
His son Hawk symbolizes himself from the Native indian side of his life and Glass from the western one. Hawk is young, yet scarred due to the actions of the Western people. The mind knows what the Western ones have done to the Indians. Yet Hawk is willing to defend Glass, but as a half-breed, Glass knows that a Native could never make any difference.
The characters in the film are surprisingly flat and there aren't that many of them. They all seem to repeat one pattern of behavior, except Glass. We've the Captain Henry, representing leadership and resolve. We've the Fitzgerald, representing selfishness. We've the Bridger, representing altruism and innocence.
Glass heads to the scout the forest alone. Hawk is left behind, left crying. Glass comforts him telling that he is his son.
Tabula Rasa. What am I? Glass is leaving not just the pelts, but all the emotions and the Native Indian experience behind to search for himself in his subconsciousness. He was an expert tracker yet suddenly gets jumped by a bear at very close range? Could the bear be a metaphor for the painful soul searching. Who am I?
Direly wounded
Glass is shred to pieces internally. He hasn’t accepted that he was part of the people whom attacked the Pawnee village and killed him as well. What have I done? Helpless, mortally wounded Glass is being carried forward by various people representing various emotions. He doesn't die, since he cannot. His mind isn't ready yet.
The Revenant
Death, but not dead. Reborn as The Revenant. This symbolizes acceptance.
End scene - Peace
Fitz, beaten, faces Glass and behaves rationally - it is the only way he could survive: "Was the only reason you came after me revenge?"
“The first thing you have to know is yourself. A man who knows himself can step outside himself and watch his own reactions like an observer.”
― Adam Smith, The Money Game
Glass observes the fourth wall, pointing that the observer has been the audience the whole time.

The main characters of horror movies are known for making bad decision, but come on!
I just finished ‘the accident’ on prime and though there were many things I could complain about, there’s one thing in particular that I just can’t get over.
For those of you who haven’t seen it, I’ll set the scene.
So main character, Caroline, and her friend, Jess, decided to hitch hike after Caroline was stupid and got them ditched, but that’s not the point.
So they decide to go with these two attractive young men, driving a nice car, that they met after the two guys literally almost hit them with said car because they were driving recklessly, you know, foreshadowing.
Now after a pit stop so the girls can get practically naked for some reason while they do their make up and the guys get liquor, the scene changes to Caroline sleeping in the passenger seat while Jess and random douche guy #1 are getting hot and heavy in the back.
Jess feels a little weird about having sex in a car with the other two and random douche #2 driver obviously knows what’s about to happen. Which I mean, yeah, he should of stopped the car, called him out, or did literally anything but ignore it, but he did.
Obviously Jess is not quiet about saying no, which wakes up Caroline and, upon seeing this man, attempting to rape her friend, she decides, the best course of action is to shove the driver! Then grab the wheel to try and straighten them, which would probably of been better for him to do anyway, but yeah, so needless to say, that’s how they got into the accident
Now, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but unless getting into a car crash is the only way you can possibly survive a situation, there are probably better ways to handle a situation then attempting to kill everyone involved, especially when your friend isn’t even wearing a seat belt!

Let's See How Good Automoderator is: that Arthur Fleck Movie
I've wanted to write this before, and it's probably been done or already discussed, but I still see confusion or controversy over Joker as a film. Does it have something to say, is it good film, and why is it so polarizing. For me the challenge is not seeing its merits but rather disentangling them in a coherent discussion: plot, characters, directing, setting, tone, etc. Great cinematography, great photography, composition (go back and look at the color schemes/blocking), editing, sound, etc. I could go on and on and I think this film will be looked back on more highly as an excellent example of cinema craft then it even gets now. There's a lot more here than Pheonix's acting.
I think there are two central themes to Joker, one from the perspective of the individual or character of Arthur Fleck and the other from the broader social environment ("we live in a society..."). In the case of the Joker the question posed to audiences challenges their ability to be judges of morality or character and it is the problem known in social psychology as the fundamental attribution error. We judge ourselves by our intentions, and we judge others by our perceptions of their actions: I know I'm a good person who generally acts with good intent, even when I screw up because I have access to my own mental states, but I can only rely on heuristics in judging the intent and subsequent actions of others. For a person with disabilities and limited skill-set like Arthur Fleck this is an impossible obstacle-course, particularly when set against the broader social theme. We live in a society that rewards the adequate and successful i.e. the more equipped you are to engage the world the more likely you are to succeed and thrive. In turn this success is used to further disadvantage individuals like Arthur Fleck who must navigate Kafkaesque bureaucracies to function; if they are cut loose as is done in defunding of his social worker they will be hopelessly adrift. This again follows the parallels of the 1970s and 80s when several high profile exposes of state run mental health institutions (such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) resulted in the closure and subsequent "dumping" into homelessness and the prison system of the chronically mentally ill.
Perhaps the best starting point for a modern audience is to relate the genre of film Joker occupies, which is perhaps dissonant to more casual viewers because the intellectual property is ostensibly a super hero franchise. The Joker is one of the most iconic comic villains featured in various extremes from camp to true psychopath. The movie is a character study in the psychological thriller style rather like American Pscyho although very clearly an homage (elevator scene anyone?) to the Scorsese film Taxi Driver. Arthur Fleck is effectively a re-imagining of Travis Bickle through the lens of the DC franchise as set in a real world Gotham. It is not a big budget blockbuster of typical comic book production and has a more independent or art house feel, which already is a mismatch with audience expectations. Someone growing up on Christopher Reeve's Superman would have very different expectations going into Joker. Travis Bickle is a socially inept loner, the focus of the story, making his way in an alienating and harsh world. Importantly a major theme in the this more grounded look at at character's life is the idea of human duality; real people are complex and hard to cleanly categorize, in the case of Bickle his narrative could just as easily see him end up the villain as the hero; and he ultimately is an anti-hero unfitting of direct emulation or adulation.
I'll revisit the character of Arthur Fleck in a moment, but I want to branch off now and talk about the setting of the film. The DC universe of Joker and Batman exists within the fictional city of Gotham, a thin allusion to New York City, and what's fitting for this telling of Arthur Fleck's story is the parallel with Taxi Driver's (and real life) New York City set in the 1970s and 80s. It was a grimey, corrupt, crime ridden, dirty, unsettling place (another film that captures this time and place as I recall is Spike Lee's Summer of Sam, Dog Day Afternoon, or Howard Beale's "Mad as hell" rant from Network). The garbage strike which is established as running background boiler issue that's set up and referenced throughout the movie is based on true events. So too is the subway shooting that ultimately tips Fleck from down on his luck schmuck to heinous criminal, which it parallels rather closely. Unlike the subway shooting though this film uses the modern day issue of economic disparity rather than racial tensions to craft a more relatable powder keg of social division.
The response was critical, as I understand it, to the "Occupy Wall Street" type commentary of the film which is arguably a bit of anachronism. Although there certainly was unrest over economic concerns during the 80s, notably the Volcker shock aimed at curtailing inflation, or the air line strike, I would argue the more apt analogy would be continued unrest of social issues which presents a thornier issue from a production stand point (subway vigilante shooting) and from an audience relation aspect. Events in 2020 aside I suspect in the wake of the past decade in 2019 there was more direct sympathy or understanding for a seemingly unfair economic system. From what I've gathered people were put off by how quickly the sentiment in the film boils over, but this is analogous to unrest of racial issues in the 80s for example the subway shootings or the Central Park 5. The unrest was there historically, and is well established in the background elements of the film, needing only a catalyst; a spark to light the fuel. Until recently, perhaps, people have been sheltered from large scale riots, but from '68 to Rodney King they were not that uncommon.
I'm loath to inject politics too much into this analysis but there does seem to be parallels with Trump, himself a high figure in 1980s New York, a slumlord who made his fortune by inheritance (i.e. undeservedly) and who publicly commented in favor of the prosecution during the Central Park 5 controversy. The young Wayne employee on the train who is ringleader (Wall Street 3) to the assault on Fleck is oddly similar in appearance to Don Jr. It re-contextualizes the philanthropy or stature of the Wayne family. Perhaps our sympathy to the murder of Wayne's parents would be altered if he were a Trump. Not to say that he deserves it, but perhaps you reap what you sow if your wealth comes at the expense and well-being of everyone else.
The film is well told in the language of cinema; right from the first scene we know Arthur Fleck lives in a world of shit, and without one word of dialogue we have visual symbolism of a Janus-Faced existence and the lone tear smearing his make-up of the Pagliacci type clown. Right out of the gate we know this is a character of inner turmoil who is not adept at expressing so. He puts on a mask (clown make-up) of sanity to function in the world. Life is constantly happening around him, though Fleck is removed. Note the audio at his work when one can constantly hear the goings on of his co-workers while Fleck often quietly set alone. And this symbolism continues, though not particularly subtle but most certainly effective. The lone trudge home after being a victim (emasculated no less, watch as he guards his balls during the attack) with multiple transfers on public transit just to have the last brutal climb up his Sisyphean steps to his dysfunctional home is relatable imagery. The audience will ultimately feel put off by their empathy for Fleck (who has not returned home from a day in which everything has gone wrong feeling defeated?) but also with their general apprehension to him as a person; he makes one feel ill at ease. Which remember at this point in the film Fleck has committed no crimes, he's harmed no one. He earnestly puts in the work at his job despite not his own unhappiness to entertain and amuse.
The fundamental attribution error is explored in Fleck by his mannerism and lack of social grace making audiences uneasy (he's a creep), which ultimately leads to his breakdown. And the film plays up the elements that make him creepy, for one he's a clown. People are generally put off by clowns. There are several allusions to notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacye e.g. Pogo's Comedy club and the diamond face paint for Fleck's clown make-up. Fleck is not capable of reading people, social situations, or engaging others. He's offbeat in his humor (e.g. when he's taking notes at the stand-up routine and laughs at the wrong time) which leads him to be the the punchline to the rest of the world: being terrorized by the kids who steal the sign, being bullied by his co-workers, laughing uncontrollably, etc. An effective example is when he actually manages to tell a convincing lie to the detectives at the hospital, throws his cigarette off with perfect timing, to only run face first into the door; he doesn't even get 10 seconds of dignity. Or when he accidentally shoots the wall, some Charlie Chaplin shtick, his ability to be funny always comes at his expense. And when he otherwise is funny it's almost always a private joke. There are two parts to a joke, the setup and the payoff. When he murders his workplace bully, Randall, he first premeditates a setup by using the chain lock on the door. It's then darkly funny when he lets his other short co-worker Gary leave only for him to be unable to unlatch the door. It's a joke only to Fleck and one the audience shares with guilt. Or consider the joke featured on Murray, "When I was a little boy and told people I was going to be a comedian, everyone laughed at me. Well, no one's laughing now." It's an actual joke from a real comedian, arguably a bit dated even by 1980s standards of comedy, but it's well crafted. Fleck just doesn't know how to deliver it, he's constantly off the mark. He goes on the equivalent of The Tonight Show and tries to tell knock-knock jokes.
Despite all of this he is constantly challenged to explain himself to the world, again with this Kafkaesque onus of responsibility to an indifferent world. He genuinely wants to do the right thing: he asks to have his meds increased which he is compliant in taking, he cares for his narcissistic and abusive mother without question, he tries to entertain the child on the bus, and gives his all entertaining the children in the hospital (a trope of comic book movie actors). Fleck only desires to be recognized for his hard work as evident in his first Murray fantasy.
The premise of the film seems to jump off from a meme critiquing the concept of Batman as a superhero. Batman is a 1%er, a rich man who uses his extraordinary resources to go out and beat up poor people. Obviously the lore of the Batman universe is more nuanced, exploring his vigilantism through a surreal and contrived lens of wacky super villains with grandiose schemes. Bruce himself is the product of garden variety mugging. The real world of vigilantism is far more complex, hearkening back to the subway shooter scene. We as an audience are more willing to extend the benefit of the doubt to a fictional character like Batman because we understand as omniscient viewers his intent and character, because we see the moral code he carries in refusing to kill. This is a simplistic narrative device of many comic book dichotomies. Good and evil are clearly established and the solution is to punch or kill enough of the right evil characters. People want stories to lift their hopes out of the world in which Joker wallows. in the Joker there is the anti-hero's equivalent of a happy ending, significant only to him, the catharsis is wholly his at the discomfort of viewers. Releasing his murderous frustration is akin to the care-free way he descends the Sisyphusian stairs when he's finally shrugged off the burden of carrying on any attempt at a normal life.
Fleck is always expected to explain himself, a quick example of this is when his sleazy boss brings him in about the sign. In seconds his boss goes from questioning why anyone would steal a sign, to strongly suggesting Fleck would do so, insulting him directly from start to finish. Maybe now is the time to delve into what really kills this for mainstream audiences: Fleck is creepy. He's got that uncanny valley persona like he vaguely knows how people act or how to interact with people socially but like his comedy he just can't get the timing right. Intentions mean nothing if your audience is already ill at ease made worse by the fact he lives in his own fantasy world, has jokes that only make sense to him, his greasy emaciated appearance, his uncontrollable laughing, and the fact he's really not alright. It's like the feeling of being unsettled at a restaurant when a person with tourettes is having a problem with ticks. They're not harming or directly targeting anyone but a person making strange facial grimaces and randomly shouting puts one on edge. And Fleck doesn't read subtly, he's very literal and direct. His understanding of a stand-up act is "sex is funny", just shoot me becomes literally "I want to die" he's not good at figurative language. What's more his low weight, tics, or body contortions may be side-effects of the psychiatric meds he's on to attempt normalcy. Contrived as it may seem his off-putting elements are often the price of being a functioning member of society. He is both off-putting but inconsequential, his mother, his social worker, his boss; none of them listen when he explains his real problems or aspirations.
This leads me into the revelation of Fleck's childhood abuse. On the one hand I consider it borderline a cop-out to explain away his weirdness as a result of childhood trauma. You're putting the audience on the spot to either have antipathy to victims of severe childhood abuse or to attempt to condone their misdeeds as adults; it's very emotionally manipulative. Then again child abuse exists, the harmful repercussions of traumatic brain injury, maladjustment, heightened cortisol response, heightened risk to anti-social or maladaptive behavior is all based in fact. These are all aspects people will recognize on a surface level but have a harder time engaging as social ills. And these are hard social questions.
The fall. Once Arthur stands up for himself by killing the Wall Street 3 he's on a downhill ride. He experiences real life triggers: losing his job, his mother's ill health and revelations both about her relation to Wayne and his own traumatic life. It becomes easier for him to let his pro-social obligations slide and embrace his nascent anti-social tendencies. He embraces jokes that are funny only to him: punching out, "don't forget to smile", laughing at the subway murders, etc. This is a film that builds tension the whole way through, but no one questions mistreatment of a weirdo like Fleck. For example the fact Fleck is brought on national TV to be mocked, that the segue way to his intro on Murray is talking about all the problems he has. There's a viciousness in the world that's tolerated as common experience, even if the person on the receiving end sees their place in the world is to make people happy as Fleck does. Joker is unsettling not simply for the awful things "unpredictable" people like Fleck do, but because we are not as good as we think we are. It's why Fleck ends up being the voice of something more to the general descent into madness of the city; our tendency of indifference to others and their struggles breeds disruption and malcontent. The Joker is a figurehead, a symptom of a sick society (possibly literally); not an ethos.
Finally I have to address the vengeance once he fully lets go. The violence is visceral, the catharsis palpable. It's unnerving both how Phoenix portrays the indifference or satisfaction with which he carries it out, but then the subconscious aspect of the narrative which makes him an anti-hero. By the Arkham report we know his mother abused or allowed him to be abused terribly, then took him back in as if nothing as happened to be her own caretaker. Yet I doubt many would see the hospital scene in which he smothers her without a physical discomfort; a direct analogy would almost be something like Dr. Frankenstein destroyed by his creation. The coldness is unsettling but I suspect the subtext of possible justification is equally unnerving. But contrast there is violence we as the audience accept with less concern. No one feels as much discomfort as when the street hoodlums violently assault a sign-spinner, we don't care near as much as when the Wall Street 3 bully him on the train (it's almost welcome for them to redirect their anger from the female passenger to Arthur) and despite our disdain for his actions there is never equal disdain for Randall (his co-worker that bullies and manipulates Arthur) even when he is being his most self-serving and disingenuous (dude uses faux sympathy over the death of Fleck's mother to attempt to cover for his own crimes). There's an inconsistency in how we view misdeeds rooted in acceptable behavior. This is a critique of society crystallized in the lessons of Ledger's Joker, "Nobody panics when things go “according to plan”. Even if the plan is horrifying!" and it's the world the breaks characters like The Joker.

I'm watching one movie for every year from 1920 to today
Like the title says, I'm watching one movie from the past 100 years, starting with the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and ending with Palm Springs from this year. Nothing else is set in stone so I'm open to suggestions for any years!
Here is my list so far. I tried to be as diverse as I could, but I don't know much about films pre 1960 or from 2000 - 2016, so help in those areas would be greatly appreciated!

How do you get out of the sidelines in conversations?
I don’t have any friends and the only people who I have to socialize with is my family. I always try to distance myself because I don’t like being a social butterfly. They don’t like it when I don’t socialize and when I do it feels like I’m just there and my Mom, My brother and my sister are always the stars of the show. It’s why I always sit up in my room playing Xbox.

Is it dumb to never show anger
Is it dumb to never show anger or get mad at anyone even tho they’re not being particularly nice on their part. A lot of people can be passive aggressive and I’ll just go about my day like normal not really paying attention to their attitude and responding to them in a good attitude.
Because I honestly don’t want to waste energy hating or being angry at someone or something. So if someone’s mad and they’re showing it by handling things roughly and kinda just throwing them around I’ll just go on normally as if they didn’t have this attitude, but now I’m starting to wonder if people are gonna think I’m dumb and clueless person who people can be mean to and I’ll still be nice to them. When really that’s not the case.
I acknowledge that you’re mad about something but I don’t wanna spoil my own day by turning my good energy to match your own. Instead I keep a good attitude in hopes it wears off on you and your day can be a bit better than before.
But now I’ve been starting to think that maybe people are gonna take me for some clueless idiot who lets people walk all over her. Normally I don’t think about what others think about me because I kind of don’t care what they have to say about me, this is the first time I’ve thought about how others perceived me as. And I don’t want what I think of as a good trait of mine to be taken the wrong way :/

For me it was Ingrid Goes West - I very rarely cry during films, ive cried to 3 films in the past 8 years (including Ingrid Goes West) but Ingrid was a character that resonated so deeply with me that when she said:
“I know there's something wrong with me, but I don't know how to fix it, and I don't know how to change. And I just... don't think I can change”
I broke down crying!
So what about you - what was the last film to make you cry? And if you want to go into detail, id love to hear why! Also, are you someone who cries in a lot of films, or are you a tough cookie like me and never cry?

I am an involuntary celibate, but i dont want to be grouped with incels, what should i call myself instead?
I am a loser ugly virgin who will never be loved, or get laid ever in my life, and obviously i dont want to be in this situation so i've tried all the advice yet i'm still in the same boat as i was before i started trying. So, by definition, i am an Incel, im an Involuntary Celibate. However, i when finding out about this community i learned it is filled with Hateful Sexist men who i share no opinions with. Some even talking about how they want to murder people.
I hold none of the views they do, and it was quite scary to look at. And now, i feel like if people knew that i was a virgin, then theyd label me an incel and put me in the same group as those psychopaths. So, what do i call myself? Im definitely not a normal person, for normal people, love and sex are well, normal. Theres something wrong with me. But i dont want to be called an incel, so are there any other terms that i could call myself that wouldnt associate me with incels?

How to bed movie metadata/info to a website?
I have a business that involves movies and I'm looking for a way to quickly embed movie info to my site, as I will need to change movies frequently. Is there a site like IMDb or RT that has a way to quickly embed common movie info like title, poster, synopsis, etc? Preferably a simple method for someone who uses a free website builder. Why do people hate on Avatar (2009) so much?
I feel like the movie gets way too much hate than it deserves. Sure, no one's saying it's the greatest movie of all time, but it's a colorful, entertaining experience with some great world-building and visuals. I'm no die-hard Avatar fan but I still think it's a fun ride of a movie and thought more people would feel this way. And I've heard all the Ferngully, Dances With Wolves comparisons but I feel like movies rip eachother off all the time.
Especially with the news of the delay of the sequels, I keep seeing people shitting on the original. Why do y'all hate this movie so much?

Regarding Avatar: TLA, which do you think is worse - the adaptation, or the execution of the film?
Obviously a lot has been said about this movie but I'd like to know which was the bigger failure, the adaptation of existing material, or the actual filmmaking (editing, structure, casting, etc). Personally I'd have to say the filmmaking is worse, albeit barely. It could have been poorly adapted but still well made like The Shining or Constantine but it's a mind-boggling mess.
However if you think the two can't be separated and it's just a giant clusterf*ck, that's fair opinion.

Have you ever heard a line in a movie that really hit you hard? Something that made you stop and think? Made you feel more connected? Understood?
I came across this post, "Do you ever become just so overwhelmed by a quote or a passage in a book you have to stop and soak it all in?" , and it immediately reminded me of a line I heard in a movie I watched a couple of weeks ago - so I wanted to bring a similar discussion over here.
Here's the line from "Before Sunset":
"You can never replace anyone. What is lost is lost. Each relationship, when it ends, really damages me. I never fully recover. That's why I'm very careful with getting involved, because... It hurts too much!".
This isn't a philosophical line by any means but the simplicity of it really stayed with me. For the first time, I heard aloud how I've always felt after losing someone in my life. It just hit me when I finally heard the words strung together so casually.
I'm not sure if it's quarantine/the loneliness speaking but has this happened to anyone else recently? If so, what movie and quote?

What is your opinion about religion in higher education?
TLDR: where I live (south america) there are a few select universitys that force a religious doctrine on students, what are your opinions on this?
So, in latin America there are a few unis that are run by the catholic church and some other religious institutions, some of them are actually quite good. Im a student at one of them and im infuriated by the amount of bullshit they’re forcing down our throats, im about to graduate and have had to endure about 5 courses whose soul purpose was to “bring us closer to god” in some shitty ways
•The origin of life/origen de la vida: Denied any scientific theory about the creation of the universe and life, and pressured us to agree that creationism was the only truth
•Life goals/ proyecto de la vida: Was about how the only way to truly succeed in life was following the strict guidelines of the bible
•Ethnology and psychology / Etnopsicología: Was specially disappointing as a psychology student, it centered around how Darwin’s theory of evolution was not only false, but did great damage to humankind, causing Hitler, racism in general, whatever war raged on the face of the planet and every evil ever created The book they made us read for this was: los desastres producidos por el Darwinismo la humanidad by Harun Yaha, if you want to hate someone new I recommend you read it
•Cience and faith/ Ciencia y fe: Was all about how atheists caused great harm to society and I had to whiteness my uni professor tell a whole class of psychology students that depression could not be cured by a therapist o psychiatrist but only by coming closer to god and only affected those who strayed to far from god
•Christian ethics/Etica cristiana: Is about how morals and ethics can only come from outside of oneself, and only the bible has been a constant in human history on which one can rely to be a good human being
I mean, isn’t higher education here to open our eyes to the world? I feel sad and angry whenever I think of how hard they push me to close my mind to everything but the “word of god” and I want to know what you think

I was depressed for years, partly due to my poor control of diabetes. Recently I have gotten really good control and taken myself out of depression. With that came a realization that over the years I had become a toxic and controlling person, especially towards my partners. I feel bad with how I treated some of them. Would it be weird or unacceptable for me to reach out to my exes and apologize for my behavior?

"It doesn't matter if the windows are rolled down or not. If you see a animal lock in a car please please please call Animal Control. You have no idea how long that animal has been inside the car or will be inside the car. It's not safe. Please don't walk by and think "oh someone else will call" or "they will be back shortly" because if you think that to yourself, how many other people will and not call. Please call Animal Control and don't leave your car by themselves"

The "up the stairs" scene in Rear Window is one of the most intense moments I've seen in a movie.
I watched Rear Window for the first time last year. Great movie, but one moment that really stood out to me is that "up the stairs" scene at the end. I can't remember the last time I felt so intense watching a movie.
That scene near the end where Jimmy Stewart hears Thorwald coming up the stairs, is one of the most unnerving moments I've seen in a movie. That sense of dread, the lack of music, and the fact that Jimmy Stewart is in a leg cast, so he can't escape or hide and can only confront Thorwald. And then that furious look on Thorwald's face when he opens the door. Absolutely horrifying. Everything about it is just well done.

(hydrogen cannons are legal in this Intergalactic Region, but we're not allowed to use them??). Is there any easy way to get free fuel around here? Is this true for all stores?
I went to go buy a gift out for a friend but I realized a lot of stores were closed. I thought it was to prevent people from shopping and lower the places where COV-19 would spread. One of my friend reached out after explaining how it is actually the opposite and how these stores did open but were exposed to COV-19 hence why they closed. Companies don’t want to tell the community since it would discourage people to buy their products in these stores in the future after they finally open. Also it could cause a bit of chaos. Has anyone received this same bit of information from a news source or friend or family that work in stores in general? Just wanted to know a bit more on this.

Revisiting "Prisoners" (2013)
Just rewatched "Prisoners", and... it's probably one of the greatest films of the 2010’s. The film revolves around desperate father Keller Dover (played by Hugh Jackman) trying to find his missing daughter, and a detective (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) who is trying to solve the case. When the police release a possible suspect, Keller takes matters into his own hands, leading to terrifying depths of human nature.
This film is directed by Denis Villeneuve, one of the most talented filmmakers working today. The performances are nothing short of breathtaking, with Hugh Jackman bringing a powerhouse of emotion, and Jake Gyllenhaal bringing a cool, calm and collected performance to match Jackman's rage and despair. The cinematography is absolutely mesmerizing, shot by the ever so brilliant Roger Deakins. The score by the late Jóhann Jóhannsson is a perfect companion to the slowly building tension filled moments on screen and the screenplay is just incredible.
What this film does so well is capture the lengths a human being would go to in order to save the ones they love, and the pure desperation that ensues if the answers slowly slip from their fingers. If you’re looking for a good thriller, Prisoners will surely imprison you in it’s cage of mystery, suspense, and brutal intensity.

So truly what does this make me? I get confused when someone says “oh i’m italian.” but they don’t have a italian citizenship or live or have lived in Italy. They only say that bc their grandparents are. Or ARE THEY RIGHT?
So what do I identify as? And Can soemone explain this or how nationality & ethnicities work?

A Goofy Movie hits differently as an adult.
Maybe it's because I'm a Father now or maybe it's just because I've experienced much more of what life has to offer, but 25 years later, "A Goofy Movie" is much deeper than it has any right to be.
I know that most people remember this movie fondly and that's likely due to the catchy soundtrack and how easy it is to identify with Max's (pre?)-teenage angst. But for as much as I'm about to rave about this movie, it still won't go down in history as a cinematic masterpiece. It currently only holds a 58% rotten tomatometer for Critics and 70% for Audiences.
For those who need a refresher, Goofy's son Max is desperate to "Stand Out" at school and finally impress his crush, Roxanne. After succeeding in that endeavor, he is dismayed to find out that his Dad is going to whisk him off on a cross-country trip in an attempt to get closer to his him. Max lies and tells Roxanne he'll be going to a Michael Jackso---I mean Powerline-- concert in Los Angeles. Along the way, Max changes their route from Idaho to Los Angeles until Goofy discovers it and confronts him.
What impresses me about this movie upon re-watch is how much effort is put into the writing and themes in a movie that could have just been a bargain bin effort. It's a movie that is geared heavily towards kids but throws enough things at Adults to make you feel something. It's a movie that's much deeper than at first glance.
Off the top of my head, here are several themes that I think most of us can identify with:
1.) Max's fear of turning into his Dad and embarrassment of ones parents in general.
2.) Max's guilt at changing the road map and crushing guilt of lying to your parents in general.
3.) Fearing your child will turn into a delinquent.
4.) Drifting apart from your children.
5.) Different Highschool Cliques/Not fitting in
6.) Focusing intensely on just one girl/boy. Not only that, but the movie shows how difficult we make dating as kids/teens. Before Max tries so hard to "impress" Roxanne, it's shown multiple times that she's already smitten with him, but he's so concerned about his own image that he can't see it. I'm sure some of us looking back would probably have been more confident if we had realized that our peers were just as awkward as we were.
7.) The pain of family road trips.
8.) A Parent not listening to/understanding their kid and conversely a kid having a myopic view of the world.
9.) Competing Parenting styles combined with Pete's exorbitant, blowhard lifestyle. Pete is a whole 'nother topic entirely. Multiple times during the movie his actions are motivated by putting Goofy down solely because it makes him feel better about his own failures as a parent/person. We've all known someone like that.
Look, I know this movie is more nostalgia than Gold, but on second watch, I was really impressed by the level of detail put into themes in the movie. This movie could have been another dud in a long line of Disney throwaways, but instead it has heart...and a bitchin' soundtrack...

Trying to remember a movie title
The movie was about three male friends who went and lived overseas on a beach. Weed was illegal but they bought it anyway. Two of the friends left, the third was arrested for the drugs and he was imprisoned with a harsh sentence. One friend wants to go back and help, the other doesn't.
Does anyone remember this movie? It's driving me bonkers.
