Is Newt Scamander supposed to be a high functioning autistic person? [Fantastic Beasts/HP]

My gf and I just sat down and watched both fantastic beast films back to back (shut up, i know.)

She’s a psychiatrist and started talking about Newt’s clear social difficulties, high intellect, and his fixation or curiosities towards things most people would be repulsed or not interested in.

One thing I noticed too is that in fantastic beasts 2 leta has an EXCELLENT flashback scene. It’s only four mins and it’s easily my favorite in the film.

You get to see very intimately how Newt acts- he doesn’t wear shoes, he’s hunched over, and he can’t even look Leta in the eye. It’s such a touching scene because you can tell that Newt hasn’t been accepted due to his social behaviors, and it’s really the strongest case I have for Newt having HFA.

3D in movies is BAD

Watched Endgame and had no other option but 3D . through the glasses the movies always looks dark and also dry,i cant see all the colours and its not vibrant.the movie is not visible clearly ,there is always some part of 3D not rendered through the glasses( atleast through my glasses).I didnt see many 3D specifics at all,only notable one was the opening marvel logo when the captain america shield is thrown at my face. its not an enjoyable experience at all. i wish i watched it in plain 2D.

How would you rate the Russo brothers as directors?

Do you think that they are wonderful directors, who ushered in a new level of cinematic genius with their work on the various Marvel films?

Or do you think that they are a pair of lucky guys who managed to be a part of a billion dollar franchise and that they will be exposed as hack auteurs when they start filming other non-marvel movies?

Or do you think it's somewhere in between?

For me, they come across as a very safe choice. Whilst there are many cool set pieces in the marvel films, nothing the Russo brothers do seem to stand out to me.

For example, the climatic battle sequence in Avengers Endgame seemed rather clunky and boring. With so many confusing moments, a literal deus ex machina in captain marvel, and silly fan service moments. Don't get me wrong, I did like that stuff, but I think it's also one of the reasons that I will never consider the Russo brothers great or even good directors.

From Dusk Till Dawn is one of the most badass and creative movies I have ever seen

From Dusk Till Dawn is a movie that I used to hate but now love. I'm sure most of you guys know "the twist" that takes place half-way through the movie where it completely switches genres. I used to hate the movie because the first half is easily one of the best crime films ever made. The characters are all incredible, Robert Rodriguez's direction and editing is unbelievably good, and it has some of the best dialogue I've ever heard in a film ever. Well, the film was written by Quinten Tarantino. I wouldn't expect any less from him. But, then we get halfway through and it turns into a vampire movie. And this is when the movie just takes a nose-dive faster than a Kamakazi pilot. Now dont get me wrong, I LOVE over-the-top B-movie gorefests. Evil Dead 2 is one of my alltime favorite movies. But its just that the first half is SOOOOO good and the second half is just so different. I cared about these characters so much and I wanted to see what happened to them after they got to Mexico. I honestly get mad every time I reach that halfway point because I'm so invested in the film but I know all these arcs and storylines go literally knowere. But overall, I still love the movie. This movie also has my absolutely favorite intro to any movie ever. The badass convinient-store shootout, the intense editing, incredible dialogue, and the last shot of the Geko brothers driving down the highway while "Dark Night" by The Blasters kicks in...it's just everything I want out of a movie. Also, I think we can all agree that the Selma Hayak dance scene is by far the sexiest movie scene in cinema history. If you havent seen From Dusk Till Dawn yet, get some friends together but don't tell them about the twist if they don't know already.

Need help finding this movie I saw as a kid

I remember watching a certain movie when I was a kid and have never been able to find out what it was.

I think it was like a horror/thriller movie. There was a scene where this guy had a pie. The surface of the pie started moving and bubbling as if something was underneath it. He then gave the pie to his wife and when he woke up the next morning she had eaten it, and she had blood all over her face. (Or it could have been the pie smeared all over her face, I can't remember)

How often do you view yourself in the third person?

I know it's not possible to say exactly, but do you think you view yourself through a third person lens on a daily basis or more frequently? I always wonder if it's actually beneficial or not. What is your advice? For example if I'm a 50-year-old man with no friends and I masturbate to Pokemon everyday I might really enjoy it from a first person view, but if I stop to look at this from the third person I might become suicidal. Yet at the same time, maybe it would be better if I wasn't living that way. But also, if I'm enjoying it from my perspective, what's wrong? Heart pain...?

Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but... Yesterday I went and saw Avengers: Endgame, and it had my heart RACING. 140bpm to be specific, where resting heart rate is 60-70. Today I got moving a bit while painting, and my heart rate was up to 103. The area of my chest above and my heart kind of hurts. Should I see a doctor? Did I “over-work” my heart and just need to rest?

I can’t remember a movie.

I remember it opens up with a couple waiting for the bus with their child. The male in the relationship has some sort of autism or mental illness of some sort and before they go on the bus the female hands the child to the male and runs away. Hey,

5-10y ago i bought every movie i liked on BluRay. Now since 1y i have a 4K TV and since then i got most movies from "alternative"-sources because in Germany movies are rarely sold as UHD-BR + i didnt have a UHD-BR Player.

But i prefer the honest way of collecting movies and games. The problem is i dont wanna buy UHD BluRays since they will probably be outdated in a couple of years again. And i really cant watch a movie in 1080p if i know there is a better version.

So the question is where should i buy digital movies ? Amazon, iTunes, ... ? And most importantly, what platforms offer a service to upgrade your 1080p movie to 2160p or 8K in the future ?

Which film production companies and distributors are more director friendly?

I ask this because I want to become a film director some day and I've been infatuated with film since I was 11 years old. I've studied the industry and I know a lot of the technical aspects of film like aspect ratios, definitions, various equipment, editing and other things. I've also learned how to write better and I have made a few student projects with varying degrees of quality. But from those, I've learned how to edit very well. The reason I ask this is because I have heard so many cases of editor and studio interference and directors having their vision taken away to make more money by forcing a film to be cut down for a more financially appealing runtime and having PG13 ratings. I want to know which studios are known for doing that the most and for doing that the least. I also have a question about production companies. Do distributers like Fox, Paramount, and Universal have any say in the content of the film like production companies like Legendary and Syncopy do?

This is pure speculation here, but his last movie was released in 2014, by the end of next year that will be 7 years ago. The longest break he ever took was 5 years which was between Panic Room and Zodiac.

This is kind of a long shot and it might be from a tv series rather than a movie but for some reason i’ve been thinking about the scene in question for the past few hours and I cannot for the life of me figure out where it’s from or who the actor is.

A discussion about 3D movies

Saturday, I went to see Avengers Endgame. This movie has its flaws but still it was brilliant, I thoroughly enjoyed it. But what kind of ruined my experience were the 3D goggles. You see, I'm a guy with spects (with power -4.25), so it is impossible for me to watch a 3 hour movie without them. Frankly it would be quite discomforting. So unwillingly I had to adjust both the spects on top of one another. But it was quite annoying, because most of the time my spects were getting foggy because of sweat from my nose. I had a very similar experience watching Infinity War as well.

Now, I realize that this might just be a problem that only I face, but still is there any remedy to it? I haven't seen a lot of 3D movies, so my knowledge in this matter is a bit limited. Also, I'm from India. I don't know how this (3D goggles) works in the US or European countries.

I'm open for a fair discussion in this topic, since there are many people with spectacles across the globe.

Why do newer big releases make most of their money on the opening weekend compared with older movies?

Reading one of those many articles about how much money Endgame made this weekend eventually lead me to this chart of inflation adjusted movie grosses: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/?pagenum=1&sort=gross&order=DESC&adjust_yr=2019&p=.htm . Something that struck me is the older movies on there generally made far less of their total gross on the opening weekend. Whereas stuff in the 21st century tends to make 20-30% of its total gross on the opening weekend.

I tried Googling a bit to get more information on this phenomenon, but I couldn’t find anything really definitive. In some cases (like the original Star Wars in 1977, made only ~2% of its gross the opening weekend), a very good movie didn’t receive a ton of promotion, and ended up showing for an extremely long time after it was much more successful than expected. But then Empire Strikes Back, a hugely anticipated sequel, still only made ~5% of its gross the opening weekend. So it doesn’t seem to entirely be the modern Hollywood hype machine in effect.

Another major effect I can think of is that now we have these huge multiplex theaters, and big movies are showing on far more screens than before. Is that really the difference? I would have expected that change to create more of a “long tail” effect for successful movies, where they could potentially stay playing for months and months and months on one or two screens of a theater with 10+ screens instead of being pushed out as soon as another big movie opens. Or am I misunderstanding how this change affected distribution of big blockbuster movies? Maybe now there are way fewer second-run theaters than there used to be?

What am I missing here?

Blade Runner 2049 captures so many themes that it requires so many viewings to understand them all

God this film is a masterpiece. Along with several other films (including The Shining and Vertigo), this film, in my opinion, is practically perfect in every way.

Every viewing I get enthralled by a new character and what it truly means at the core. The first time I watched it, it was obviously Joe (or K). Second, Joi. This time, I am completely convinced that Luv is one of the most layered characters in the film.

She reminds me of Roy Batty in so many ways. She wants so desperately to be human, to be someone “special”. She empathizes with her own “skin-jobs” and feels the need to take revenge on K’s wrong-doers. I love one of the first scenes that establishes her as no nonsense— where she kills Coco. Earlier, Coco makes some slightly racial comments about replicants and almost mockingly says “sorry” when K could hear the remark. To me, Luv had to have seen that play out to find where the bones were located, thus making her literally kill the man in seconds. The first time I watched that scene, I was like “Wow bitch okay just kill a guy for no reason”, the second time I was like “oh maybe she didn’t have the right credentials and snuck in?” And this time it’s “oh she had the right credentials, but she just wants to fuck him over because he’s basically racist towards replicants and she empathizes with her kind”.

GOD I cannot emphasize enough how layered and beautiful this film is— especially the characters. I really suggest watching the film multiple times, but focusing on a single character in the film. There’s symbolism everywhere and in every character. Luv to me was one of those where I absolutely despised her, but then learned to realize she’s literally just a slave of Wallace; bound to him and unable to break free from it, just as Roy Batty wanted to.

Why don't all Imax movies have Imax aspect ratio blurays?

I don't care if its the only version sold or just something I would specifically have to buy but why can't I buy an Imax version of infinity war? They literally shot the entire movie in imax. Watching the dvd literally all 2.5 hours of it you are just watching part of what they shot.

Why do they put in all this effort to make an imax movie if people who dont go see it in the first few months will never get to see your full vision? It's not the like the ratio wouldnt work well on tvs right now you see big black bars and with imax youd just have smaller bars and more image. other ratios sometimes (like watching an old wide screen version of a movie on a 4:3 tv) you would get more picture but everything is smaller but thats not even the case here. you literally just get more.

And i think this also sucks for another reason. I was watching endgame in imax (no spoilers i promise) and im looking at the framing of the different scenes and it seems like the film makers know that there will be no imax bluray so the extra part of the screen we can see is usually filled with just extra environment but nothing important because everything important has to fit in the blu ray ratio or the blu ray will be unclear and suck.

What is going on here? Why cant we just fully commit to imax if we are going to market it year after year as the best way to watch a movie. the best way to watch it can only be seen a few times while its in theaters and even those viewings will be sub par because we have to still make and plan the movie like its not an imax movie. this is just insane to me.

​

I know the factor of limiting supply by having it be exclusive to the theater might sell some more tickets but if i was personally making a movie i would want everybody including people born in the future after i die to still see the whole thing and i wouldnt want to have to worry about safety zones and how to cut the footage later while im planning each shot.

MOVIE TITLE HELP!!!

Ok so a few years ago I wathed this movie and I haven't been able to find it since. It used to be on Netflix which is how I first saw it.

It's about this girl who moves into a new town with her mom. She's weirded out because everyone keeps on staring at her where ever she goes. Eventually she enrolls into the school there where same thing happens and she asks her tour person why it's happening. The girl tells her it's because she looks exactly like a girl who went missing a few months ago.

Blah blah blah, eventually she goes to the bathroom and bumps into a pregnant girl who has a panick attack when she sees her. Turns out that's missing girls sister and missing girl was a huge bully to everyone, especially her sister because she's pregnant with missing girls ex bf.

New girl starts getting paranoid and keeps on seeing masked people following her, her neighbor is underhouse arrest and it turns out that he's missing girls brother. Because new girl looks like her he gets attached instantly. While visiting pregnant girl new girl runs into missing girls mother who calls her ugly and not as beautiful as her own daughter.

After that details get blurry but at the end she's running through the forest getting chased by people in masks and it turns out they're all her new 'friends. We find out new girl IS missing girl. Missing girl had fallen into the lake and they found her a few miles down in a type of coma. Because she was such a bully they decided to get revenge. While in her coma they gave her a new identity and fake memories and everything, all of her old friend from her old town she's been texting throughout the movie have been them pretending to be these fake people. And her 'mom' is actually an old English teacher she got fired by accusing her of sexual assault just because.

I don't remember exactly what happens between the plot twist and the end but it ends with her going back to her real family.

I also think it ends with a "to be continued" on the screen.

Can someone please adapt Blood Meridian with Vincent D'Onofrio as the Judge before it's too late?

Could you imagine a Fincher or Sheridan directed adaptation of Blood Meridian with Vincent D'Onofrio as the Judge?

Set in a hellish - but beautiful - landscape of northern Mexico and Texas, where all characters are despicable and broken and almost irredeemable and where war and violence are man's natural trade.

Some of McCarthy's previous books have already been adapted to film with great success; I think Blood Meridian would be a great next choice. It seems that the screenplay/script would be the hardest thing to get right and I cannot think of any more high profile writer of neo and/or post western films than Taylor Sheridan at this present moment.

Perhaps Timothee Chalamet could play the Kid and someone like Christian Bale could play Glanton?

What do you think about the eligibility of adapting a book like Blood Meridian?

Need help to find this movie

So there was this really good movie I watched with my grandad when I was young and want to rewatch it but can't remember the name. Basically it is a older movie late 60s to early 80s. It takes place in a prison in a Louisiana swamp. A man was wrongly accused and was sentenced there (I believe, but this part could be wrong). He tries to escape and take this girl with him and she gets bitten by a snake and I think she dies. Can anyone help me figure out which movie I am thinking of? Question about smaller, local theaters

So I've noticed that small local theaters in small markets tend to have fairly lower ticket prices than big chains, such as AMC and Cinemark. I've heard that almost all of the initial BO tickets revenue goes to the studios, and they make their money off concessions.

Are small theaters charged less of a percentage? Because not only are the tickets cheaper, but the concessions are cheaper also. I would think that, all other things being equal, theaters with more patrons would be able to charge lower prices, like in almost every other industry.

If this is not the case, how can small theaters charge significantly less? Just less overhead?

Theory regarding Star Wars 9 (highly unlikely though)

This has a 100% chance of not happening at all, but say in Star Wars 9, the series has a quick tease or something that shows Indiana Jones exists within the Star Wars universe and that Indiana Jones 5 might be connected to Star Wars (since it comes out in a couple years). I know people on here will automatically read this and just scoff at it, but I'm just saying it would be pretty cool. Lucasfilm's answer to Marvel. Looking for eerily silent movies

Just watched ralphthemoviemaker's After Last Season movie review and couldn't shake the feeling that there is potential here. The shots were wide but made me feel like I was trapped in a small box, the dialogue was emotionless but made it look like the actors were not really there, as if it was intentional like in The Lobster. I'm looking for something so eerie it becomes uncomfortable to watch, kinda like Suspiria (2018).

The most recent movie I saw in theater was Climax directed by Gaspar Noé -setting the scene: my boyfriend and I were the only two in this huge theater- and I was both blown away and appalled. IMO: I enjoyed it. It was an intense emotional rollercoaster that made me cry, it was hard to watch(emotionally and physically) but I thought it was very well-done and accomplished the "fever dream".

If my father fathered children during his world travels, how would I find them?

My dad is still adamant that he never cheated on my mother, but we have proof going back to 2004 that he has, and with many women.

He's been with women in China, Malaysia, the UK, Nigeria, Holland, France and Mexico that we're aware of.

Both my siblings through my mother are deceased and I can't shake the feeling that I have another sibling out there.

I know the names of a few of the women, but I can't find them on Facebook for obvious reasons. Especially not the woman from China, or the woman from Nigeria.

This Strange Tumblr User is not responding to my messages and I don't know why?

There's this Tumblr user I am aware of (not going to mention their @ for privacy sakes). They regularly interact with my blog (ie liking and reblogging my posts) and follow it. However, I noticed something strange when they reblogged one of my hater's (we'll call her Nancy) post. Keep in mind, they don't follow this hater. I've decided to just message them with a greeting (didn't ask them specifically about their reblog or my hater in general).

However, this user hasn't responded to my msgs yet still likes and reblogs my posts?? And yea they still follow me. I don't really understand why they can't respond....unless they're hiding something (aka they are friends with Nancy and is stalking my blog).

Apparently, this tumblr user follows my close mutuals and reblogged a couple of Nancy's posts in the past. This Nancy person is a bestie with one of the biggest, annoying bitches around (I'll name her Jamie). Pretty much I had some big beef/ drama with this Nancy/Jamie person in the past on Tumblr and I guess they're still not over it.

Could it be possible that Nancy, Jamie or one of their close friends are behind this account and stalking me? If so, what can I do to find this out? Any tips/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Note: I doubt it's a Tumblrbot because this user also commented on one of the posts I've @ed them for.

Saw a recent post on here about plastic exporting/bans of these exports. What would the feasibility be of sending garbage to the sun? What if the garbage was something deemed ecologically dangerous enough that the cost was reasonable (nuclear waste?)

Assume as low of cost as possible - especially if it relates to travel time. Seems as though it wouldn’t matter if the trash got there 5 or 50 years from now.

I don't know if it was a greentext or something like that, but I read a screenshot of a story in some picture dump a while ago and now I can't find it.

Just came up with old story which I still have no clues on what happened

Sorry for my english in advance

About 3 years ago when I started college, there were a little event called “buddy” system which I supposed to take care of one random person and some random person supposed to take care of me. Usually we’ll just get some snacks and give it to buddy without letting him/her notice. Back then my buddy was a girl so I thought it would be nice idea of me to let my girl friends (space is important here) deliver stuffs to her. I gave my buddy 2set of snacks via 2 different people before disclosed the fact that I’m her buddler, lets say that 2 different people were A and B. Apparently, I was confirmed by both A and B that they successfully delivered the snacks to my buddy. However the funny thing is when I talked to my buddy it seems that she only received 1set of snack from A and she got nothing from B so far. As far as I knew B is very good/honest person (I even had crush on her back then) so this is kind of weird to me and I still have no clues on what could have gone wrong back then. Any ideas redditors?

A fascinating concept, excellent filmmaking, a smart script, and such a smart use usage of mystery and information. Besides one or two odd ADR moments and an....interesting ending credit sequence, I have no negatives of this film as of right now, save for maybe the pace at which the viewer is trusted to take in information.

Please go in as blind as you possibly can. It deserves all the attention it gets, and I'm so glad I watched it, especially in terms of a story that walks the tightrope between high-tension, emotional satisfaction, and intellectual stimulation.

Sorry to Bother You: Metaphors

Hi, i know this movie isnt exactly new, but i just saw it for the first time and it blew my mind. Id love to discuss it, but not exactly in the same ways as all the other discussions ive seen. I understand how it's a portrayal of modern capitalism, but i want to specifically discuss metaphors within the movie and what others believe they represent.

Two certain ones:

The white bandana cassius wears in a good portion of the movie: I believe this directly ties in to the MLK analogy, showing how he was figuratively shot in the head, the same way many historical activists have been.

The WorryFree logo: I thought it looked a lot like the Waste Management logo, but have no idea why that would be, if true.

Street Fighter (Movie) why is this movie never mentioned as a solid video game movie?

I was watching it on Starz app the other day late at night and hadn't seen it in 20 years or so. I have to say i think this movie is far and away the best video game movie adaption or at least the most entertaining.

Raul Julia (RIP) was just a marvel to watch and you could tell he really enjoyed the roll. "For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday." Just fucking epic.

I am not a Street Fighter mega fan but will say love how they intertwined all the characters and thought they did a good in that regard. Jean Claude Van Damme was also i thought highly entertaining and totally over the top as Guile but felt it worked for how absurd of a movie this was.. Though from what i hear he was blowing 8 balls every day so maybe thats why

Also Zangeif was fucking hilarious "QUICK, CHANGE THE CHANNEL!" and when Bison makes that one speech and he randomly quips "That was beautiful".

Handheld cameras seem more burdensome and aesthetically displeasing than stationary cameras - why, then, were/are they used so much?

For some reason as of late I've noticed how jittery the frame is when handheld cameras are used; it's gotten to the point where it bothers me, and I can't help but think of how good Fincherian-style cameras look in comparison. The shots are cleaner, more stable, and naturally align with how we actually see the world. I understand the use of handhelds and shaky cam for action scenes and such, but otherwise, I'm failing to understand their usage over stationary cameras. If anything, it seems as if it would be cheaper and less burdensome to use a stationary camera over having someone lug one around.

I dunno, I'm just a layman, and any input is welcome!

Tl;dr - My best friend has been in an unhealthy relationship for just under 6 months. She isn't listening to her 2 best friends, D and I, who are trying to give her advice. How can I help her?

We'll call my friend M, her bf A, and our mutual friend D.

M has been in a relationship with A since late November/early December. She met him at work and both D and I are concerned about the healthiness of their relationship. Here are a few things we're worried about:

• From the beginning of their relationship, she has told us that he makes little effort in the relationship.
• His values also don't fit hers because she constantly talks about "educating" him.
• They almost broke up a few months ago over an imbalance in their relationship.
• She shit talks him on her Twitter (which he follows???) and retweets tweets about basic healthy relationship things saying "I wish I could do this with my boyfriend." But then comes back a day later with tweets about getting wanting to get married to him?
• He ignores her whenever she's upset, regardless of her reason why. He only comes back when she's "cooled off"

D and I have both been through some emotionally manipulating relationships and we're worried. We've tried talking to her about it, but she won't listen. We really don't like this guy, nor the way he treats her. What should I do?

PC broke.

Okay, so this thing happened today. I was just adding hot cues to songs through rekordbox for my upcoming set. Suddenly my PC starts glitching out. There was white noise mixed with some disturbance coming out of my speakers and there were small blue lines everywhere. They did not cover the entire screen, just portions. I (naturally) got scared as fuck and without thinking about it, unplugged my PC. I tried to turn it on again, and I can hear the fans running, getting no error beeps, but there is no video signal anymore. Please help me. This is the only PC I have and my next set is in 2 weeks😥😥.

Quick update: it just beeped a couple of times when I turned it on again. But of course, me (being the scaredy cat i am) turned it off again quickly. And now it doesn't beep anymore? Cant identify the issue.. I also dusted it out, so no more dust rn

Are the SAS (reserves) really SAS or are they just a support group?

Hey all I have a question for serving soldiers or poeple who know alot about the army.

I am english aged 20 and was once wanting to become a para failed the eyesight standards. I am thinking of becoming a regular soldier through laser eye surgery.

I would like to join the 'Royal Engineers' as I would like a trade.

But I recently just came across this thing about bear gryll's someone close to me said he was actually in the reserve SAS?

I know most regiments have reserves but do they actually fight alongside real full time Specail forrces? It just seems like they help like the SFSG does they seem more of a sub side of a group.

I alway's thought reserve specail forces just worked alongside and weren't actually full blown SAS soldiers!

I thought thier just support force!

I know reserve forces have slighly easier training to allow poeple join regular SAS training is far harder for obvious reason's.

My questions are as the army elite reserve unit are they recognised and somewhat praised?

Do they serve along side SAS/SBS regular's?

Are they or do they do the same dangerous level work is everything the same?

I alway's thought they just guard or help like Para 1 group does It's the parachute regiment squad that helps specail forces i presumed reserve SAS didn't do as much dirty work or hardwork as regular SAS soldiers do.

Do all men cheat?

I (28F) have this idea ingrained in my brain that all men cheat. My father cheated on my mother throughout my childhood and probably still does, as have all his married friends. Every single male friend I have (and I have many) has confessed that they have cheated on their SO, and that they know that their friends do too. Basically, anytime I ask, it seems that the conclusion is that all men cheat. Is this true? And for the ones who don’t (if you exist), what stops you from doing it?
